View Full Version : I hate Knocked Up
Syzygys 10-08-08, 06:51 PM Why did this moive made so much money with critical acclaim? It is vulgar and unfunny, and I just wanted to shot every charater including the baby. Mind you I only managed 5-5 minutes of this trite...
People associated with making this shit should be jailed....
Orleander 10-08-08, 06:52 PM and there is no way in hell that guy would get that girl. And if he did, there is no way in hell she would keep that guy.
I watched in bits and pieces. Dull, dull, dull.

Did it actually receive any critical acclaim? It did seem to receive a lot of popular acclaim, but that’s not the same thing as critical acclaim, ie. acclaim coming from recognised and respected journalists who act as media critics and reviewers.
This movie is garbage, but it’s not at all surprising that it appealed to the 'great unwashed', the lower-class masses. It’s the sort of fodder they predictably lap up.
MacGyver1968 10-08-08, 07:24 PM It was about as fullfilling as a mayonaisse sandwich.

"Critical reviews
Overall Knocked Up was well received by many early critics despite accusations of sexism and pro-life advocacy. For example, the film ended up with a 91% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 210 reviews (190 fresh, 20 rotten),"
You can read the rest at Wikipedia, the critics were suprisingly positive....
Fathoms 10-09-08, 01:45 PM Knocked Up is a movie that may offend your sensibilities but it really is so much more than the vulger, directionless, unfunny comedy that you think it is. It doesn't have the slick, prepackaged style of comedy so prevelent in the ninetees till now (the shallow teen sex-romp or forgettable romantic comedy of which there are a dime a dozen). Judd Appatow comedies are funny because the comedy flows from the personalities of the characters instead of the punchlines of the scriptwriters, allowing the actors to bring conversational/improvisonatioal humor into the movie which allows it to breath and progress naturally from scene to scene. Knocked Up allows everyone in an ensemble cast to have their moment yet it still manages to stick to a single coherant narrative, and the vulgerity is funny precisely because of how unapologetic it is (as opposed to being just an obnoxious, pandering cop-out for lazy writers like the ones who gave us Harold and Kumar 2). Yeah, its a dumb movie with a cliche story, but its' brilliantly dumb, even beautifully dumb. I think it takes a special kind of genious to pull off buffoonery so sincerely without devolving into slapstick.
francois 10-09-08, 08:08 PM It was unmemorable. Their other movies were pretty funny though. Superbad and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
Dr Lou Natic 10-09-08, 09:08 PM I thought it was pretty good, and I know for a fact I have better taste than most of you (SAM likes harold and kumar ffs).
On top of being pretty funny, it had a refreshing pleasant message.
The only thing bad about it was paul rudd's character's wife, she's just an obnoxious human being and I don't know why judd apatow has her in his movies.
But yeah, I think it was the best apatow movie, and I think apatow movies are better than most comedies.
Not knee slappers, frankly no movie seems capable of reaching a high level of comedy for some reason, tv shows do it all the time but movies struggle.
Knocked up was probably about as close as any movie I've seen, and yeah, it was even a good movie besides the comedy.
So, invalid thread-

Dr Lou Natic 10-09-08, 09:58 PM "Thank god" as in now you have the confidence to commit to watching the whole thing because you know it must be good?
Yeah, go ahead.
I should warn you though the main character is a jew, and paradoxically warm and decent, living in the moment like a human being and not a soulless cutthroat calculated snake, so you have to suspend disbelief there.
I was able to ignore he was a jew for about half the movie so you being an even bigger anti-semite should be able to enjoy about a third of it.
Syzygys 10-09-08, 10:56 PM she's just an obnoxious human being and I don't know why judd apatow has her in his movies.
She must give a very mean BJ....
and yeah, it was even a good movie besides the comedy.
So, invalid thread
Invalid? I can HATE whatever I want! :)
Syzygys 10-11-08, 07:08 AM They should make a sequel called Cheated On.
The blonde comes home and finds the chubby bastard fucking the old and fat Mexican housekeeper. She pulls her gun and wastes both, then commits suicede.
Oh yes, it's a short film....If you want a full length feature, then for the rest of the movie they show the just orphaned crying baby....
