I went to do some hiking today. Long story short, I walked up to the edge of the water line on some rocks, slipped, threw my phone 15 feet in to the water, and now I am phone-less. God dammit.
I figure that I'll try to renew my contract to get the phone cheaper since my contract isn't very old. The phone that I lost is about $400 retail.
If you threw it in the water, does that mean you were talking on it at the time? Or do you just carry it in your hand?
I was taking pictures of the lake with my phone. To get a good angle of the shoreline I was standing right on the edge. The place I was at is called Stone Mountain and it's basically a very large rock with a lake on the side... I was standing on the rock and right under the water is algae... clearly I didn't think about that part. I'll try to get a long rake tomorrow and see if I can retrieve it... I need that SD card that's on it (loaded with numbers, photos, applications, etc.).
just get pay as you go phones. I use those. And since you are planning to retrieve it, bring goggles...isnt the water cold?
I used to have a pre-payed cell phone but it was costing me more per month to use than if I just went with a flat rate. Plus, I abuse 'net access on my phone... it would cost me hundreds every month with a pre-paid.
Hope the fishes don't make any international calls on it. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Was it a company phone? If so, just hand it to the I.T guy and say you don't know what happened! It broke! When they look inside(touching the phone themselves) and see the water detector all pink, then confess you did in fact drop it in the toilet. * *True story
My boss tried to call it and it went straight to voice mail... so that probably means my phone is dead. The fish cannot even check my e-mail Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! No, this was my personal phone. Though, I once bought a router and destroyed it by trying to flash the firmware but accidentally stopped halfway. I took it back to the store and said that it overheated. I never saw that movie, but the plot sounds like something I would do. By the way, Emory University is just down the street from me.
I could imagine King Arthur walking up to the lake in a time of dire need.......... kneeling before it, and praying for some method of contacting the other members of the round table. Suddenly, a female's slender hand breaches the surface of the water [in slow motion] holding your cell phone
if you do manage to get it back, IF its just a case of water damage then, DO NOT PLUG IT IN OR TRY TO TURN IT ON remove the battery and the sim wipe the whole thing clean and dry and then put in into one of those containers of sillicon you buy in the supermarket to put in cupboards to keep mold away leave it there for about a week and then try it
I heard that if you put the cellphone in a microwave for a certain period of time (not too much) it would revive it.
DO NOT DO THIS! Draq, don't give advise on shit you don't know about. This could be dangerous to attempt!!!
My mobile went through the Washing machine the other day and even with the extra rinse cycle it came out working. It's not even waterproof, however luckily it had been in a trouser pocket that was of pretty thick material. It's a shame you lost your phone Absane. There are only so many things that could happen now. One is that it gets washed somewhere and silted up over so that one day in the long distant future, someone will uncover it as an archaeological find, obviously they could learn a lot about you and our society nowadays. The only other alternatives is, someone finds it and probably finds it of little use since it will no longer likely work, or it will remain lost. (Just hope nobody murders anyone and throws the gun from where you were standing, otherwise they might conclude they got rid of the phone because they were paranoid about being tracked and start hunting you down in conjunction with it.)
