View Full Version : I am clueless about Bittorrent
Jeff 152 06-17-08, 06:25 PM I have been trying to use bittorrent but I can not get it to work. I am using the built in bittorrent in Opera, but I have also tried some other programs like utorrent. I think it is a problem with my firewall or something because I hit the "test" button to test the port or whatever and it fails and tells me to check my firewall, but I have no idea how to do that or what to change.
I have windows xp sp2.
Thanks!
yes it is, problem with firewall.
cosmictraveler 06-17-08, 06:43 PM Just try...http://www.limewire.com/ instead.

Jeff 152: If you're behind the school's firewall, I don't think there's anything you can do to get around it. If you're behind your own personal firewall behind your own router at home, that's a different story.
Jeff 152 06-17-08, 08:30 PM Oh ya, it probably is the school. Oh well, when I visit home ill give it a try. thanks for all your help

Then let him use it when all the others PC;'s are not being used. That way he can download and not be affected.

You can either tell him to run bittorrent only late at night or you'll have to go into his bittorrent program and limit the bandwidth it uses. Where those options are depends on what program he's using. In uTorrent I go to Options>Preferences>Connection then set Max. Upload to 50 kb/s and Max Download to infinite. Usually bittorrent will bog down other computers if it's uploading too much for your connection to handle.
