I love Dune!I love Dune!I love Dune!I love Dune!I love Dune!I love Dune!I love Dune!I love Dune!I love Dune!I love Dune!I love Dune!I love Dune!.....I love Dune!

Yes, I cant fricken wait for Children of Dune on the scifi channel! I cant wait damit! So, so cool. Its like an alternate instead of LOTR. Both had AWESOME writers that literally created a mini world of their own.

All praise the 8hr Dune 2000 and the very sweet Children of Dune!

I need to buy the books, get the soundtracks and pay homage to the cinematograpy.

All Hail DUNE!

I am trying to find a quote from movie DUNE. It was in the end when he was in the hand to hand battle and relaxed to avoid the poison blade. What were the words he was thinking to himself then?

Thanks

If you have a copy of the book, you might want to try checking that.

Is there a point to this thread other then praising Dune?

Well geez, :p

Yea, the topic is obviously Dune, so lets talk about Dune.
Anyone ever heard of Astral Projection? Their a Trance group that made a sweet song pertaining to Dune (the spice of course).

I have a good question. Is the Spice a waste of the worms? Or do the worms make the spice? I know the worms have something to with it.

Dang, dont know Dune well enough for that. Although I have recently reignited my deep interest in Dune, I still have to read the book and rewatch Dune 2000 to be fully fluent with the story line.

Dang...

I have a good question. Is the Spice a waste of the worms? Or do the worms make the spice? I know the worms have something to with it. I think it has something to do with eh reproductive process. I'll have to look it up.

I think the story is that the worm lays its eggs deep in the sand and if they don't mature then they merge into a giant bubble and explode into a ball of spice up top. I think it's at least something like that.

Yeah, I love Dune too. The miniseries was just amazing in how awesome it was. I can't wait. I can't wait. I can't wait. I can't wait.

I know there are a ton of quotes, and in spite of my seeing the miniseries on DVD many times, I cannot recall any:(

[ "It is by will alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of Safu that thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stain, the stains become a warning. It is by will alone I set my mind in motion." ]

[ "I must not fear. Fear is the mindkiller. And fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will abate my fear. I will permit it to pass over me." ]

Two quotes from Dune, although not what your looking for, still quotes. I like the first one the most.

I will abate my fear. I will permit it to pass over me." Actually - it goes: "I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see it's path. Where it has gone, there will be nothing, only I will remain."
- Bene Gesserit Fear Litany

I used to have the Encyclopedia, but can't find it now - damn.

If I remember correctly, the spice is the waste of the sandtrout (they encapsulate the water of Arrakis underground). The sandtrout is the first phase of the sandworm life cycle. Some sandtrout mature into worms. I'm not sure of the place of worms, they produce sandtrout, I guess. Anyway, the waste material is very chemically reactive. As the waste compounds accrete in the encapsulated water, it forms a pressurized pre-spice mass. When the pressure increases enough, it explodes to the surface in what's called a spice blow. The water faction evaporates off leaving dehydrated spice on the surface of the sands. Harvesting and consumption ensue.

As far as the quote. It must only be in the movie because there isn't any special quote in the book.

When is children of dune airing?

I need to hurry up and reread it.

As much as I like LOTR for fond memories of childhood reading...dune is far superior and truely a work of genius.

Why does it lack the popularity? I think it is because people stop reading at age 16.

They're skipping "Dune Messiah" and going strait to "Children"?

I think it airs March 16... Yes it does because the sound track comes out the 18th.

For all of those who are wondering:
Dune was made for SciFi channel for two reasons:

1. The film rights belong the original Dune movie made for theatres.
2. Some intelligent person relized that the film rights were not the same thing as the TV rights. Thus they made a miniseries out of it. But in reality, since Dune is such a lond story, its better because you have more than 2 hours to tell the story.

I can't wait. I think they have a bigger budget this time so the graphics and back drops should be even better.

For 25 million, Dune2000 was just a kick ass miniseries.

I caught a really long preview when I was watching scifi. It looks so f*cking awesome I'm going to crap my pants. The effects, unfortunately, look to be little better than the last dune, but I really, really don't care at this point.

'Dune' the movie didn't get a lot of critical acclaim compared to 'Dune' the book. Personally I loved the movie - I had a mental picture of what the protagonists alll looked like but the movie had a completely different vision - much better than mine.

I can't however praise the subsequent books - like many sequels I thought they were sh*te (note UK spelling). Perhaps the screenplays will be better.

Cheers,

Ron.

P.S Mind you, I liked 'the Keep', which also got panned by the critics.

I just finished Dune, and think that it was awesome.

The movie was awesome. I need to get the book and sit down for a afternoon of heavy reading.

Yikes! An afternoon?
Dune took me more than a month to read.
I still need to see the movies.
Yes movieS, plural. The original,
and the one that Sci-Fi made.

I'm still debating over whether or not
I should see 'Children of Dune' on
Sci-Fi, because I haven't read that one
yet. I have this weird thing where I need
to read the book before seeing the movie.
The same goes with LOTR.

Children of Dune, the miniseries, actually covers two books--Dune Messiah and Children of Dune. Dune Messiah was probably the worst book in the series, and, as I recall, consisted of little more than bland dialogue. In that book it seemed as if Herbert just wrapped himself up in his universe and couldn't find a way out of it. It was more like the crappy foundation for the later books.

I'd suggest seeing the miniseries first, so you can skip Dune Messiah, if you want to:)

Yeah, I can see your point.
But, was Children of Dune
very good? If it was I'd want
to read it first.
It's this stupid habit.

I don't know what it is. It just
ruins it if I know what's gonna
happen in a book.

Maybe I'll have my dad's friend
record it on Tivo for me, and I'll
watch it once I'm done.

Plus,
I want to finish at least one of the
"Mars" books. (You know, Red Mars,
Blue Mars, Green Mars) My science
teacher gives extra credit to those
that read a 'scientific' book and write
a report on it before the end of the
year.

Somehow I persuaded her
into thinking that the Science-Fiction
of these books have to do with something
that coul- will happen. Should be
happening now.
