View Full Version : Hydrogen Revolution- But the Government is on the Way (What's New?)

"Clean energy claim: Aluminum in your car tank
Prof claims hydrogen breakthrough, but says Energy Dept. 'egos' in the way
A Purdue University engineer and National Medal of Technology winner says he's ready and able to start a revolution in clean energy.
Professor Jerry Woodall and students have invented a way to use an aluminum alloy to extract hydrogen from water — a process that he thinks could replace gasoline as well as its pollutants and emissions tied to global warming.
But Woodall says there's one big hitch: "Egos" at the U.S. Department of Energy, a key funding source for energy research, "are holding up the revolution."
Woodall says the method makes it unnecessary to store or transport hydrogen — two major challenges in creating a hydrogen economy.
"The hydrogen is generated on demand, so you only produce as much as you need when you need it," he said in a statement released by Purdue this week.

Once again, it's not on the interest of the government to let this kind of thing happen, since they have so many friends and shares in the oil industry...

So ...what's stopping him? I don't recall Henry Ford having to get approval or capital from the government to make and sell his cars. Did Bill Gates get government approval and capital to develop his Windows OP system?
Everyone seems to want the fuckin' government to do stuff for us ...why? Where's the ol' pioneer spirit of "can-do"? If he has a good product, then it will sell to the consumers, and if he can show that it will sell, then he can get the PRIVATE capital to do it.
So ......tell ol' professor what-the-fucks-his-name to get off his ass and go to work!!
Baron Max
Ophiolite 05-18-07, 01:27 PM While I applaud the notion of funding such a development with private capital, I'm not sure I want another screwed up system like Windows, or a CEO who claimed 'history is bunk'.

As usual, you pretend you don't understand the situation.
There's a conflict of interest here. It's not that they want to get funded. They simply don't want the government trying to stop them.

How is the goverment trying to stop them? That makes no sense to me. Can you enlighten me on that issue?
Baron Max
TruthSeeker 05-18-07, 04:04 PM Their worry is that the government will try. Did you read the article at all? :bugeye:
Carcano 05-18-07, 06:22 PM The government isnt stopping them...whats stopping them is the fact that the aluminum oxide recyling system required is NOT cheap enough to compete with gasoline.
He states this himself.
>> hydrogen breakthrough
LOL, I ran a car on aluminium 30 years ago... and of course no one believed me, even though I demonstrated the reaction, and the running Land Rover.
Weird world out there.
I have progressed to much better systems.
Exhaustless IC engines are good for start ships!
Carcano 05-18-07, 07:05 PM I have progressed to much better systems.Do tell? :)
TruthSeeker 05-18-07, 08:24 PM Oh don't worry. He has his flying saucers...

That news item is seven years old...and they have yet to see mass production.
The Devil Inside 05-19-07, 03:03 PM ill bet dollars to doughnuts that this guy ends up face down in his morning cheerios.

You mean his croissant. :p

well, he is in america....so i guess i really meant "breakfast burrito".
Mosheh Thezion 05-19-07, 05:16 PM the big problem... with using aluminum to react with water to make hydrogen....
is eventually.. your tank still runs dry...
you would need to refil with pellets again....
and pellets, made of aluminum and gallium, dont exactly grow on trees.
the gain is in the form of hydrogen.
but... they seem to be forgetting that the aluminum has to be processed...
and aluminum oxide, requires alot of energy to make aluminum again.
i dont see how this is any net gain.

Carcano 05-19-07, 05:37 PM Yes, its odd that these folks are all smiles...given the self-confessed impossibility of ever competing with liquid fuels.
TruthSeeker 05-20-07, 02:55 AM Any updates on the car that runs on air?

its not that simple TruthSeeker.
Dont blame the government and some hidden agenda to claim wealth and no country utilitarianism.
If it was that easy. I am sure this so called perfect clean system has got its flaws. Maybe Baron Max does not seem to understand the situation but so don't you.
yeah I found the flow this thing needs aluminium and gallium. Mass quantities. And were will the residue go?
Honda FCX is coming this year, massive production

>> and pellets, made of aluminum and gallium
yes. you need to fill up at a bowser.. like petrol.
There are much better methods than this... but yes, I have my flying saucer, and the power engines are exhaustless and the fuel is entirely recycled within the craft. No loss as in a rocket... so basically ever lasting.

What can I say? I guess you're right...
TruthSeeker 05-20-07, 12:30 PM Although.. there's motive for the government to go against alternative energies and favour oil. Ya know... they own shares in the oil industry....
