View Full Version : Humans are...
fadingCaptain 01-09-03, 12:18 PM If you had to describe the entire human race with one word...what would it be?
I think I would say delusional.
Everything about us...in the way we behave, think, identify, and communicate is filled with grand delusions.
We have soft, wet brains that have no self correction. The only way to determine if your thought is correct is to test it outside.
So yes.
To fix that, I have developed a way to build brains from the bottom up. The bottom level of brain is all control. That has feedback and works well. The top level of the brain is an unknown area. (Not that people don't flap about it all the time.)
sycoindian 01-09-03, 02:50 PM hmmmmmm... that's a tough one.. one word eh? besides the one u've already mentioned....
id say 'individualistic'... i know im generalizing, but what to do.. one word is all i got... :p
Clockwood 01-09-03, 04:02 PM Hungry...
And by that I dont mean for food. Just Hungry.
We want something but we dont know what.
NenarTronian 01-09-03, 04:19 PM "mostly harmless" lol
One word? I'd have to say.... passionate. About stuff. I dunno..
John Mace 01-09-03, 04:58 PM Successful.
From a strictly biological, evolutionary standpoint. We have gone from an estimated 10,000 homo sapiens in a tiny part of Africa ~75,000 years ago, to over 6,000,000,000 today spread out all over the globe.
fadingCaptain 01-09-03, 05:15 PM Nice answers.
So we are delusional, individualistic, hungry, passionate, and successful.
Yes, we are wildly successful from an evolutionary standpoint. I like that optimistic way of looking at it.
successful measured against what?
Unpredictable.
Who else would pump noxious chemicals into their own biosphere?
Who else would be concerned if a species would live or die.
Who else would on one hand revere life in the form of a baby and take life in the form of a war?
wesmorris 01-09-03, 11:56 PM semi-conscious
hehe... cheated with the hyphen!.. yeah baby!
John Mace 01-10-03, 12:08 PM Spook:
Was my original clarification not adequate? I'll try again.
From a strictly evolutionary standpoint, a species is successful if it propogates itself, increases, and eliminates competing species. We've done that in spades. Now, you can argue how "good" that is, or whether we will continue to survive in the future, but up until now I think the results pretty much speak for themselves.
Redoubtable 01-10-03, 07:44 PM "AWARE" We are the only species to our knowledge that can examine itself (with a notable degree of skill and familiarity) and evaluate its performance for potential personal or social improvement. We are to our knowledge the only beings that contemplate the both the world and, more importantly, ourselves in a rational, scientific, and eager way.
Cthulhu 01-10-03, 08:50 PM Sheep.
Two words would have given me more latitude to expound on the description but that will have to do. We are pack animals and extremely self domesticated. The government tells us what is best for us, what we can or cannot do and the majority accept these edicts without argument. Maybe a little bellyaching but little in the way of protest. We used to be explorers and opportunists. Now we are becoming increasingly specialised and narrow minded. The most individualistic people in society by force of the system are criminals. There will be no more revolutions because those with the brains to overthrow our leaders get life imprisonment.
Baaa.
grazzhoppa 01-10-03, 09:10 PM It goes hand in hand with "delusional."
No matter how you look at it, we don't and won't know everything....as proved throughout our history.
TruthSeeker 01-10-03, 10:51 PM Crazy....:D
Clockwood 01-11-03, 12:01 AM Hehehe... sheep. You wish.
If we were sheep the sheep would have to be carnivorous, willing to kill anything that got in their way (including other flocks), and would decimate the wolf population. God help the shepherd.
andeity 01-14-03, 10:45 AM Crazy.
ElectricFetus 01-16-03, 02:49 PM "ANIMALS" we are nothing but talking hairless apes that are to smart for our own good and have opposable thumbs that have aloud use to rule the world and destroy it to!
Hopefully we will evolve beyond this thanks to the help of genetic engineering, cybernetics and AI.
John Mace 01-17-03, 04:19 PM Fetus:
Such a grim view of yourself! Why the hope in AI and genetic engineering? Those things must spring from the very brains you disparage...
ElectricFetus 01-17-03, 04:46 PM SO? Just because our evil brains can conceive our replacements does not mean our creationd are evil! It is False Logic to believe that everything related to something bad must be bad as well! It also is wrong to believe the reverse in that just because something is good that all things related to it are also good: take foods and items with the words “Natural” or “Organic” just because some natural things are good and some unnatural things are bad does not mean that everything you can bless with those words is good and everthing you can't is bad!
I don't hate humans... I just feel that it is wrong to believe that we are something better then all the other slim on this planet!: It’s a sign of selfishness and egomaniacs to believe that!
Asguard 01-17-03, 04:50 PM evil:(
wesmorris 01-17-03, 05:06 PM I'm not evil you bastards. You take that back! :)
Do you think it dangerous to drop your bad attitude on top of the whole species? There are some seriously good muther scratchers out there man.. why it gotta be evil? damn... ya'll needs ta chillllll.. damn!!!!
:m:
Wesmorris say "iffah u imajin u sef innah herr... dennah fo-ah shuwah, u gonna b innah herr." But don't quote me on that.
(loosely translated: life is exactly what you make it, or: life is attitude, have a good one)
ElectricFetus 01-17-03, 06:46 PM I never said evil in my original description of humans! You people must think being animals is a bad thing! Maybe you’re all in denial?
wasmorris please make some sense PLEASE! Everyone these days can't seem to write descent English anymore!

Or maybe a cancer.
ElectricFetus 01-17-03, 07:07 PM We don't reproduce as fast as cancer or bacteria... but we do seem to beat rabbits!
John Mace 01-17-03, 08:58 PM Fetus:
It's not all about you, pal. Look at the post immediately above Wes' if you want to see why he responding about "evil".
I'm still amazed at how many people loath their own species. Lots of negativity here. And I agree with you 100% that we are no "better" or worse than other life (you call it slime, I call it life) on this planet. Numerically, though, we're more successful than many species. Of course maybe the real "smart" ones are the many parasites that have taken us on as hosts and are getting a free ride around the globe!

sorry bro, didn't mean to tweak your freak alarm. you did say in the previous post "evil brains"... but I was talking about the one right after that said "evil" while the both of you are conditionally correct, we're talking generalities here and well, "evil" is a pretty harsh world view (though typical of smart kids in their mid to late teen years). I was just dropping a little experience into play for balance.
oh... and I know my post sounded messed up.. I was trying to see if you could follow it.. try again.. think phonetically, in other words.. sound it out.
I'll translate if you still can't get it.
ElectricFetus 01-17-03, 09:20 PM It fine
I don't loath are speices I just feel that people think to much of them selves instead of trying to look at what we are: and try to fix our problems like higher beings. Sense few ever do try to think above animals (and of those few even fewer reproduce) this makes most people animals by greed and selfishness alone. We as human have the potential to rise above that right now; even without genetic engineering, cybernetic and AI all we need is a little will power and some of that hippie stuff and we would be in utopia!, but does anyone have that will power??? Apparently very few! That is why I advocate removing our “evil” by force! Removing the selfish genes and expanding are conciseness seems to be are only hope.
wesmorris 01-17-03, 09:30 PM I'll debate that in another thread if you wish.. but I don't want to hijack this one.... feel free to fire one up.
%BlueSoulRobot% 01-26-03, 07:17 PM Delicious.
hahaha
no no, I say ... Humans are beautiful sinners.
Incubated in our own devious juices and drunk on the ambrosia of fear, we emerge from our warm cradles with snakes for tongues, glass for eyes, and hearts of mercury. Thoughts like dreams woven tangible, we cling to each other with barbed wire hands and cry blood in drenched sorrowful states of self-pity.

ElectricFetus 01-26-03, 07:22 PM *crying* that was soooo wonderful... any other poems you got there?
%BlueSoulRobot% 01-26-03, 08:17 PM *pats Fetus on the arm* I'm not really a poet though ... but I'm glad you liked my little description. :)
notme2000 01-28-03, 11:52 PM Vain
adj. vain·er, vain·est
Excessively proud of one's appearance or accomplishments; conceited
To get back to the topic, I think the only way to discribe humanity is...disqusting...ya...because of the many different groups, which never really go along with one another. With the eternal delusions of granture the US has, the deeply rooted beliefs in the middle east, and while we all fight over the internet with games, debate on what food we will eat tonight, or go out to a country we have no business with and shoot everything in sights, there are parts of the world where people die from hunger, thirst, desease that can easily be treated. But would the rest of the world lay down its weapons and help those people that actually need helping???

Popcorn8636 02-15-03, 01:04 PM Tough question, :( I'm going to have to think about this for a while, even though I'm entrigued to say 'stupid,' :D

whiners ... evidently.
Dr Lou Natic 02-20-03, 05:51 AM Don't be so fast to disreguard "evil". If there is such a thing as evil it is undoubtedly humans. We are the only species on earth that can take away the freedom of someone or something else, we have the ability to tie something up or put it in a cage or some position where it can't escape or defend itself and bring it strange foreign unnatural and unusual types of both physical and emotional pain(ie scientific experimants on animals). Now that I think about it, another good word for us I suppose is "pussies". Evils good too though, both are accurate, actually alot of what you guys said is accurate. I'm not used to such a conscious crowd. I feel like I'm home *tear* ...... now I'm the pussy:mad:
