Study reveals babies are stupid. (http://www.theonion.com/onion3119/stupidbabies.html)

"A surprising new study released Monday by UCLA's Institute For Child Development revealed that human babies, long thought by psychologists to be highly inquisitive and adaptable, are actually extraordinarily stupid."

"The chicken, dog and even worm babies that we submitted to the test as a control group all had enough sense to come in from the rain or, at least, seek shelter under a leafy clump of vegetation or outcropping of rock," test supervisor Thomas Howell said. "The human babies, on the other hand, could not grasp even this incredibly basic concept, instead merely lying on the ground and making gurgling noises."

I have seen studies in the past which would disagree with that. However, keep in mind it takes around 13 years for a human to really get developing. An awfully large and complex brain which takes time to grow.

Damned if I can think of any other creature, other than babies, that also don't have the ability to walk or crawl to shelter immediately after birth.

Cheers.

The reason behind all this is that head housing a fully developed human brain could never be squeezed out of such a small orifice.

All mothers on the forum say aye!:D

Goofysfish: I didn't bother looking at the link before.

As for babies and such, well, there ared others which are completely helpless early on, such as many birds, other primates, et cetera. They just develop much faster than us. But then they don't have as much to develop in most cases.

Baby rodents, cats, dogs, and shrews are all also helpless after birth.

I knew there probably were animals that were helpless, but I've always pictured pups and kittens at least able to crawl straight after birth. At the time I was picturing marine animals and baby horses (ponys standing up straight after birth), and such. In any case, it's not a big deal, just a tangent thought from the original topic.
