1. Go to a hospital or a dentist's office.

2. Using extraordinary political skills, maneuver your way towards an X-ray machine.

3. Place sample on top of lead shield.

4. Turn on the switch for various amounts of time.

Do a search for mutagenicity assays such as the Ames assay ( http://www.bioreliance.com/AMES_assay.html ) I used this assay for several years testing the mutagenicity of environmental contaminants.

Essentially, mutations happen naturally, the key point is to choose the bacteria strain and set up the environment so that the only ones that survive are those that acquire a specific mutation. That way you can tell how many mutated.
