I bought a Dell's notebook, it comes with Windows 7 64 bit preinstalled.
But I want to install windows vista also.
Dell does not provide windows 7 DVD, it was installed from HDD.
How can I backup the windows 7 from HDD to DVD, so that I can
    1. reformat the whole HDD
    2. partition it into 2 parts
    3. install Vista into first partition
    4. Then install Windows 7 into second partition?

    Go to "all programs".

    Open "accessories".

    Open "Ease Of Access".

    Open Ease of Access tool".

Look at the upper right corner and open the help sign which is the question mark. Open that help center then ...

Write in how to install windows vista.
It will give you many choices but look for the one that says....

"Networking home computers running different versions of Windows"

    I hope this helps.

I might be able to answer that, but I could be wrong. I wanted to run some of my older programs and they wouldn't work on Win 7 but Win 7 has a way to put Win XP onto it so that you can actually use older programs that require Win XP or Vista as well. That could be why he wants to include Vista but I could be wrong.

Yeah, Coz...that what I assumed too. Just curious. You can always run in "compatibility mode" that works for some, but not all programs.

I'm not sure about newer Dells...Win7 has come out since the last time I worked on them professionally, but many new machines don't even include a recovery disk, they just have a recovery partition on the computer...pretty retarded to me, since it's worthless if the hard drive dies.

How do you use the compatibility mode? How is it enabled? Thanks.

Right click on the program's icon and go to "properties", then click on "compatibility":

My HDD is big, I want some programs to run in Vista.
    I do not want too many programs in Windows 7;

    Just curious...but why?

If your worried about too many programs installed on Win7 slowing down your system...I've had this Win7 install for about a year and half now, and have installed boatloads of programs, and it's still as fast as a fresh install.

Why on earth would you want to this? Windows 7 is better in every way.

What I did is using Clonezilla to boot and then clone the HDD of Dell into an External Drive.

I dont like the new start menu that doesnt expand. Any way to fix it so it behaves like the classic expanding start menu?
