whitewolf 07-17-06, 08:04 AM 5-7 hours is absolute minimum. It is possible to wake up more alert after 2-4 hours of sleep, but consistent sleep deprivation will eventually lead to halucinations.
I have trouble falling asleep at times. I can lay in bed and giggle for hours.

Cat.
Small bladder.
Work.
I barely catch 5 hours each night. I have a nasty habit of drinking lots of beer after work, until I go to bed. That combined with almost a pack of cigarettes at the same time definately has a negative effect on my sleep. I know I need more. I'm Always tired, unless I'm drinking, :m: ,etc. I also have a horrible time trying to shut my mind off. I keep thinking of zionists and Republicans and Christians and finances and family and it keeps me jolting awake every 30 minutes all night long. It ain't easy being a Genji.

sleeping is like going to another world and being awake until i wake up back here and start all over again. exhausting dreams. go figure. smoking made my sleep dreamless but my days were more like dreams.
crazyfreespirit 07-17-06, 10:24 PM How many hours do you sleep?
Depends on the time of year. During the school year(10 months) I get about 6 hours of sleep on average. During summer it's about 8-11 hours
How much sleep do you think is necessary?
I know that I feel properly rested and refreshed after 10. However 8 is what I'd say to be nessacary, though I can get by on about 3-4 per night for a few weeks before I crash.
Do you think you are getting enough sleep?
Right now: yes. During school: it'd be nice to have more.
If not, list the reasons why you do not get enough sleep.

madanthonywayne 08-04-06, 12:20 AM Well Happy Monday to you too! I don't believe in an afterlife so you can't bait me on that one. ;)
Plus, what would you do with the 72 female virgins?
7 hours seems like the right number. I also enjoy naps after work or school.
Mosheh Thezion 08-04-06, 12:36 AM i used to sleep 12 hours..... or at minimum 10 hours a day...
sometimes i would sleep 20 hours....
all my life... until... i started taking ginsing, ginko, and dhea.
the dhea, affects my over all hormone levels... ITS AWESOME.
the ginsing, give me energy during the day..
and the ginko..... totally,, removes all my lazyness.
if i take 3 ginkos a day, whole leaf, fresh dried, i dont need to over sleep anymore.
i love ginko.... it has solved my sleep problems.
-MT
In what form do you take the gineng and ginko?
Mosheh Thezion 08-04-06, 12:52 AM I GET THE GINSING, from costco... its called triple energy.. by 'tru nature.'
it works....
the ginko i take, is fresh freeze dried, from eclectric institute, from 'WHOLE FOODS' MARKETS......
the ginko... increases blood flow to the brain, and it seriously works.
i can take it before i sleep, and i sleep very well.... but i wake up at 6.30 am...
everyday....... and i feel no need to go back to sleep.
even if i go to sleep at 1 am.... i still wake up at 6 or 7, fully rested.
i love that stuff.
-MT
§outh§tar 08-04-06, 04:43 AM i get like 4.. 5. but because i stay up pretty darn late. in fact i should be going to sleep now..

used to be 3-5 hours a night, but has increased to about 8,1/2 now that i have left school and got a job.
it depends on the stress level of your day, how much rewiring needs to be done that night.
barely.
because of work, i am up at 4am and dont get home until 6pm on an early day, so by the time i have had dinner i need to go to bed. 10-11 hour days because of the spring job roster.
Plus, what would you do with the 72 female virgins?
I'd organize a FABULOUS re-creation of Madonna's "Vogue" for the stage!!! I'LL STAR!
G. F. Schleebenhorst 08-07-06, 04:50 PM I have/had SAD and if I don't have anything to get up for (usually at the weekend) I will just sleep 14 hours straight.
This leads to sleeping pattern fuckup which I sort out by using melatonin to get to sleep or yohimbe to stay up all day....and no it doesn't give me a hard on.
How many hours do you sleep?
Usually less than 5.
How much sleep do you think is necessary?
I think Einstein said 10, not sure though, either 10 or 12.
Do you think you are getting enough sleep?
No
If not, list the reasons why you do not get enough sleep.
1. Got to go out and buy the car stereos, tvs, speakers, jewelry, ect. off the crackheads for cheap.
2. Got to sell the stuff I buy
3. I wokout 2-3 hrs
4. I post on a few different forums
5. Work
6. I'm doing HS online, so that doesn't take very much time up.
7. Been working on a book for while, since I was 12, prolly write bout once a week now tho.
8. I try to read when I can
9. Eating, of course.
10. Everyone has a social life, even me
11. Other things associated with my environment
...I try not to drink too much coffee or pop.
How many hours do you sleep?
4-5
How much sleep do you think is necessary?
For me, beyond 6 hours and I have a headache the rest of the day
Do you think you are getting enough sleep?
Yes, I sleep deeply without any disturbances. I've slept on trains, buses, through an earthquake :) . Noise and light does not bother me and only my mother can wake me up.
Carcano 08-08-06, 08:54 PM the ginko i take, is fresh freeze dried
the ginko... increases blood flow to the brain, and it seriously works.
Does this mean you take Ginkgo in the raw leaf form?
Wouldn't it be easier to take a Ginkgo extract in capsules?
How does it increase blood flow to the brain specifically...by dilating the blood vessels?
Mosheh Thezion 08-08-06, 10:38 PM I WONT TAKE EXTRACTS... they leave chemical residue in the extract.
whole leaf, crushed, and freeze dried if fine with me.
how ginko works??? i dont know... but it does...
when im tired, and feeling like i dont want to work anymore...
which happenS about 5 hours into any workk day...
i take a ginko.. and i forget all about being tired... and i keep working.
but.. it doesnt get you high like coffee or b vitamins and stuff.
it just takes away the mental fatigue.
-MT
Carcano 08-08-06, 10:54 PM Ok, I'm going to try some tomorrow and see if it works as you describe...I would love to be able to wake up early.
I won't find the whole leaf form anywhere around here though...I'd have to buy it online.
Mosheh Thezion 08-08-06, 11:31 PM any good healthfood store has it.
mind you... i also take ginsing, which does the same, but did not effect my sleep as much.
the only thing thats new... is that on ginko, ,and ginsing, i cant help but wake up bamm.... right at 630 or so... as soon as the sun is shining in my window.
i am able to go back to sleep... but my NEED,, to go back to sleep is greatly reduced....
it maybe due to the added blood flow while im sleeping that perhaps is making me sleep better.... as i have always had problems.
anyway... i love ginko, its expensive, and now i know why... it actually does something, unlike the myriad of endless herbs being sold.
-MT
(ANOTHER SIDE EFFECT.. of ginko and ginsing... sometimes.. if ive taken alot in a day... alot meaning. .. atleast 4-7 300 mg ginsings.. and 3 ginkos over that whole day... ive sometimes, drank enough alcohol to get three people drunk, and yet i was stilll sober.... it really pissed me off... what a waste of good vodka.)
Carcano 08-09-06, 04:06 PM How much do you take a day?
The extract I bought today says only one tablet 60mg a day.
That doesn't sound like enough.
kaduseus 08-09-06, 06:15 PM I normally sleep 12 hours a day. sometimes 18 hours, once for 27 hours.
8 hours sleep isn't enough for me.
Mosheh Thezion - Are you still able to just stop and stare at things in wonder or do you run round like a mad person?
Also did you have headaches before from too much sleep, and if so, have they gone?
I might give that a go for bit, it would be nice to be able to control my sleep/energy level sometimes, i'm not sure i would want all that energy all the time, as i don't get enough to eat.
Carcano 08-09-06, 08:12 PM i'm not sure i would want all that energy all the time, as i don't get enough to eat.
I tried ginseng for a long time and found it to be just like caffeine, only more so.
Not something you'd want to take after 3pm.
Giambattista 08-09-06, 09:20 PM I like to sleep as much as I want to. It means less time spent consciously worrying and being depressed about life in general. Plus, sleeping just feels good. Nothing like sleeping 12 hours in one sitting.
Actually, I don't always sleep so long. Sometimes I'll go several days on a few hours of sleep. But then I usually have to sleep twice as much the day after.
One of my felines often sleeps with me the whole time, too. He won't move until I get up. He's so adorably cuddly! :D
Giambattista 08-09-06, 09:26 PM I believe gingko biloba is supposed to be a vasodilator, as well as a rather powerful antioxidant. I believe it has been shown to protect nerve cells from damage by toxicity like when you have a stroke. Maybe I'm wrong...
I've not really ever taken ginseng for any length of time, nor yohimbine.
What is everyone's opinions on the stimulant effects of these? Worth it?
Anyone ever taken a large dose of Kava?
I'd like to grow some one day. I'd like to grow many things...
Giambattista 08-09-06, 09:42 PM Anyone heard of Dr. Lorraine Day? I heard her on Coast to Coast AM back when I rarely missed a show, and I remember her saying something about a certain hormone that's only produced during a certain part of the night. Now, I'm not talking about the deep sleep cycle that is thought to contribute to the production of growth hormone, which can happen anytime you're asleep for a long period (I think there was/is some confusion as to whether HGH influences deep sleep, or if deep sleep influences production of HGH... maybe no connection?).
The way she said it specifically is that you have to be ASLEEP during a specific time of the NIGHT in order to produce this specific hormone. You can't get it if you sleep during the day. Which would very probably mean it has something to do with darkness or maybe even something more exotic? I know melatonin production is dependent on low levels of light (at least last time I checked!), but that's the only hormone I know of that is connected with sleep and time of day/night.
She didn't mention the name of this particular chemical, and I looked up much to do with sleep, and have seen nothing other than melatonin. I wonder if she was talking about that, or something different?
She was kind of kooky anyway. She could have been making a big deal of nothing. If anyone has read or heard anything about her, they may understand what I mean.
francois 08-09-06, 09:53 PM People on these forums sure get a lot of sleep! My guess is that the average adult gets a lot less.
I get approximately 8. I require a lot of exercise for sleeping to work optimally. Otherwise, I'll lose sleep and the quality will degrade greatly. Then I'll get herpes simplex on my mouth; that's probably the most reliable indicator for me of a chronic lack of sleep. Lack of energy too, when I'm not hopped up on caffeine.
Prince_James 08-10-06, 11:25 PM "How many hours do you sleep?"
I attempt to sleep more than 8 hours. Recently, I've gotten around 7.
"How much sleep do you think is necessary?"
I do not begin to not feel tired until around 9 hours of solid sleep.
"Do you think you are getting enough sleep?"
No. But I am not sleep deprived, either. I just could use more.
"If not, list the reasons why you do not get enough sleep. "
General activity.
Mosheh Thezion 08-10-06, 11:52 PM I normally sleep 12 hours a day. sometimes 18 hours, once for 27 hours.

Mosheh Thezion - Are you still able to just stop and stare at things in wonder or do you run round like a mad person?

I might give that a go for bit, it would be nice to be able to control my sleep/energy level sometimes, i'm not sure i would want all that energy all the time, as i don't get enough to eat.
all my life, i have been the kind of person who easily could sleep 12 hours, and usually when i could id sleep 16.. and i have done 24 several times.
its always been a problem for me.. in high school, it was so bad, my father would throw buckets of water on me, to wake me up... since i wouldnt get up, and i was always late for school.
ive done every kind of drug... speed, coke you name it.. coffee...
vitamins... all that stuff.
but it is only the ginko, taken at bed time, which does aboslutely nothing to prevent my sleep, and yet causes for some reason, the side effect of needing much less sleep.
im not kidding, i have rhuematism... it suck ass... and it has fatigued me for years... in addition to my normal lazyness....
but today, i live off of 7-8 hours of sleep, which is usually interupted at about 6:30 am pacific time, when the sun shines in... bamm..
im wide awake.... still havent moved, laying in bed, ii usually go right back for another hour or so... but that last hour.. isnt sleep.. its added rest.
its forced additional dream time. its an hour of sleep i dont need.
it is a very marked change, in my existance.
My cocktail i live off of is simple.
20-30 grams.. 20-30 pills of omega 3 concentrate fish oil, a day.
4 300 mg ginsing in the morning, and two in the early afternoon.
2 - 3 ginko 500 mg 1.2 %- 1.8% flaviniods. one in the morning, one in the afternoon, one at bed time.
12 mg DHEA, every other day.. skipping as often as possible.
(I believe small doses of dhea, is involved in my overall improvements.)
that is a recipe for all old lazy tired men... if your in pain, and have no energy and alll you want to do is sleep all day everyday, then you are me, and this amazing recipe, will allow you to easily and without pain work, and function normally.
it will allow you to start working out again, i actually do and WANT to work out again, and i do so regularly now.
im starting a buisness now, and i am fully aware that the only thing in my way, is myself.
but happily, for me... im not lazy anymore, and yet i dont need coffee or speed... or anything which can be considered a high.
i dont need to get high, i just need to be fixed, so i can function in normall health.... this is what i do, and it works for me.
-MT
G. F. Schleebenhorst 08-11-06, 10:09 AM Jesus fucking christ that's a lot of fish oil....when I take fish oil it makes my....um....thingy smell like rotten fish, no matter how much I shower. Can't stand that....and I only used to take like 9 a day at the most. Don't you get that? It also makes me horny which I can't complain about really.
Mosheh Thezion 08-11-06, 02:25 PM I HAVE NO CHOICE, but to take the fish oil... it works better than any medication i have ever tried, regarding my arthritus.... joint pain sucks ass.
fish oil... literally cures me... 30 piles a day, is a small price to pay.
and yes... everything... everything.. smells fishy... and i dont care.
ive been in constant pain.. constant.. for over 10 years.. NOW ITS GONE.
I LOVE FISH OIL.
(but fish doesnt effect my lazyness, ,or life long need for extra sleep, ginko does.)
-MT
Ginko helps laziness? Like the same way speed or cocaine would? or differently?
purple_hairstreak 08-12-06, 10:09 AM How many hours do you sleep?
5-7 hrs
How much sleep do you think is necessary?
8-10 hrs
Do you think you are getting enough sleep?
No
If not, list the reasons why you do not get enough sleep.
Criminally early classes in college, not enough hours per day (24? That's ridiculous!) :D
Mosheh Thezion 08-12-06, 02:36 PM Ginko helps laziness? Like the same way speed or cocaine would? or differently?
SIMILAR.. but without the ampedness.. or shakes or anything which can be thought of as a high....
it just takes away alot of my normal fatigue.... my desire to lay down.
when i am at work... i get tired of it about 5 hours in.
but one ginko, and that desire to lay down goes away, and without any wierd side effects.. and i can happily keep working.
i even take it at bed time, if i want to get up earilier...

How much does it usually cost you for a bottle? Also, what is dhea?
Carcano 08-17-06, 03:24 PM How much does it usually cost you for a bottle? Also, what is dhea?
Gingko extract cost me about $12 a bottle...60 tablets at 60 mg each.
I've been taking it for a week now and I have to say that it does work exactly as Mosheh described.
Thanks for the tip!
It doesn't make you hyper, its just allows you to sleep deeper, and therefore less. I find myself waking up at 6:30 without an alarm clock...which for me is unheard of.
I'm taking four tablets a day (after meals) for a total of 240mg.
Mosheh Thezion 08-18-06, 12:18 AM IM PAYING 7 dollars for 50 pills, 500 mg each. (freeze dried leaf)
i really like ginko... Carcanno... thanks for the input, as it confirms things for me, which i was aware of, but did not have repeatable evidense to support these things as being commonly true for all humans.... but i guess it is... its not just me.
(you must be taking extract.. thats why your taking less than me. )
(i take 3 a day, at 500 mg each... which is what the bottle suggests.)
DHEA, is a suppliment availible in stores.. it is literally the most abundant hormone in the human body... and its levels... drop over our life time.
i.e.. high levels when young... lower levels with age.
dhea, literally, is a sex hormone.. or simply in the body, it.. becomes testostorone, or so it is said.... and what this does... is cause the adrenal glands to spit out higher doses of adrenilin to the body... its the stuff that makes children run wild.
taking dhea, causing an increase in the testostorone levels and adrenilin levels..
the first time i took it, i took the whole pill.. 25 mg..... and wow.
i was amazed... the feeling is un-describable... it literally makes you more manly.
it will make you more hairy... it will deepen your voice... and it will make you want a harem of concubines, and feell like you could actually pleasure them all.
It does one thing, which i have found most useful... it makes me want too work out.
at 25 mg, i literally... NEED,, and have to work out... i have to pick up something heavy, and rrraaagghhh.. move these major muscles.... i need to run.. not walk.
i need to squezze the stering wheel alittle tigher..
25 mg.. is to much for me... at that dosage.. i could go insane.
12 mg.. half a pill, i have found is just right.. it makes me WANT to work out...
it would be cool... but i dont have to.. it becomes fun to do so.... not a need.
there is some question as the possible negative side effects of taking it.
1) some suggested link to prostate cancer.
2) increased testostorone levels can shrink a mans balls.
3) over exerting your self.. and dieing... heart attacks.. etc.
4) constant use, can lead to dependancy, as your bodys normal production levels will be effected... thus the suggestion is limited use, and take long holidays.
(which is why i take it, every other day.. about 3 times a week.)
personaly, speaking as an ex-cripple... thanks to fish oil.
the fact that i am not in pain... did nothing to cure me of my overall apathy and lethargic nature.... ginsing helps alot.. ginko is awesome.
but dhea.. makes my body function as it did when i was 18, and im 37 with rhuematism.
this wierd combination of drugs, i found out of desperation.
if you have a problem, physical or mental, there is probubly some drug or herb which will help, but you have to find it.
I have taken alot of different things.. and these are the good ones i found.

"How many hours do you sleep?"
Anywhere from 3 to 9. Depends on my health.
"How much sleep do you think is necessary?"
About 8 hours.
"Do you think you are getting enough sleep?"
I feel like I am but at the same time...I'm extremly tired all day (and then at night I'm quite awake.) I guess my patterns just simply...off.
"If not, list the reasons why you do not get enough sleep. "
I just don't have enough time in the day to do everything I need. School from 8 'til 3 PM, homework 'til dinner, dinner, practice music 'til 8, paint 'til 12, computer time scattered around there..
Nikelodeon 08-18-06, 05:09 PM Can you force yourself to not sleep? I would try it myself but I'm too tired.....
