I am just wondering since I seem to get an inordinately large amount of junk email and was wondering how much daily junk email everyone else gets. I average about 48 to 50 a day, once I got 115 in a 24 hour period.

My two hotmail accounts get an average of .025 spam e-mails a day, so that's one every week or so.

My spam account however needs emptying every day or else it'll die from overfeeding. That's 6mb of e-mail roughly a day

I sign up for a lot eh!

On my old hotmail account, 95% of my mail was junk. Nowadays I have Yahoo and I barely ever get any.

Its always good to be careful with your email address. In fact I think we should ALL be careful with your email address..hmmm i seem to have misplaced your email address...what is it again? :D

i get dozens a day on my aol account and none at all on my email(.com) account. since i rarely use the aol account, i end up having to delete 500 or more at a time. we aught to start an internet-wide campaign to get everyone to cancel their aol.

I'm lucky : I have 1 spam/day (average)...
I try to unsubscribe each time I can, but that's incredible how their webmasters are unlucky : 50-70% of the unsubscribe links don't work anymore!

I got one today with my university mail, but that is an exception.

With my yahoo account I get more spam than real mail. (100:1)

Careful, you'll convince some poor fool that he is supposed to try to unsubscribe.

OK, so here is a warning ;) :
You can try to unsubscribe but it's dangerous : some spam are sent to random e-mail accounts and when you try to unsubscribe you show them that your e-mail box exists...

I starteed recieving some about 6 months ago, but then i use postmaster, which seems to be a fairly small operation and i think the spammers have overlooked it till now. one a day is sort of average.
Any way we can hunt the spammers down and hurt them?

that's pretty tricky to do since they mostly use stolen addresses. i've had mine stolen and used for porn spamming. aol cancelled my mom's account (cause i'm still on it) and she was pissed. i didn't know because i hadn't used it in months. a friend of mine had the same thing happen to him.

OK, I've never had any piece of junk mail ever. Except for the 1-2 junk emails on manhood enlargement I get a year. That's it.

Guidelines!

Use a separate "official" email to use for order forms or applications, and use another casual one to email your friends. Preferably with fake name and address for the latter.

Never, EVER post your email anywhere. I don't care where. NEVER. Not even your bedroom wall, not even your girlfriend's underwear.

Whenever you sign up for something, use some junk email you never use. And UNCHECK anything that says "yes send me info on {some shit}" and CHECK anything that says "no don't send me info on {some shit}".

Whatever you do, never, ever, EVER answer spam. NEVER.

If possible, forward every single spam mail to the "report spam" list on your email provider. I think my report spam button image is showing stains from overuse :D And who knows, sometimes they have sweepstakes on it. Win a free Porsche in the process.

Always have your spam protection level on "Insanely High". Not exclusive, though...then some potential girlfriend who wants to know you might not be able to contact you. :D

C'mon, this is common sense on the internet. Always pack a fake name/address email to use everywhere except on paper or official business. Like colleges. Banks. Credit card companies. The US government. Christina Aguilera. Etc.

And guess what. If you wanna sue and don't know the spam company's location ... just dish out the money and buy something. They can't hide from American Express.

Use http://www.spamhole.com It is marvelous for those that just have to have an email addy or require that you answer from your e-mail account to verify it is active. After a time of your choosing, it no longer forwards the e-mail through it. It is most effective at blocking unwanted spam.

As I learned, much to my regret, responding by saying unsubscribe only verifies that is a good address and then not only do they keep sending spam, but it goes on the list of good addys to be sold for even more spam.

Long ago, spammers learned how to get around the blocked address and so each and every e-mail of those that are truely annoying will change almost daily so the address block will not work.

In my last account I was recieving over a couple of hundred spams a week. It was to the point that opening the e-mail took 20 minutes for all the spam to finish loading into the e-mail account. I was really irked. Why should I pay either the provider to change my address or for a spam blocker. I neither wanted it nor requested it.

Needless to say, I have wised up and recieve almost no spam anymore. Do use the address above that I gave you and never ever give out your true e-mail except to those you really trust.

As a last word, at one point there was a truely annoying fellow on a pubic hub. It was seen to that he was signed up daily by several people to all the spam addys they could find. Needless to say that addy doesn't work anymore.
