View Full Version : How many roads must a man walk down ...
My way
And now, the end is here
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I traveled each and ev'ry highway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way
Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way
I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way,
"Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way"
For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows and did it my way!
Yes, it was my way
Don't give up, Cottontop.

what is this thread about?
42 of course :bugeye:
everyone knows that
Yes, but what is the question?
The mice think it's "how many roads a man must walk down?"
or something like that
Fraggle Rocker 09-17-05, 01:51 PM written by: FRANK SINATRAWrong. It is a French song entitled "Comme D'habitude," written by Claude François. (Knowing that, run the melody through your head now and it sure sounds like a typical old French pop tune, doesn't it?) The English lyrics are credited to Paul Anka, although a less well-known songwriter of the same era named Tom Swift is said to have started the job before he died.
It was sung by Frank Sinatra. As well as Paul Anka and about a hundred other people.
Does anyone have any evidence that Frank Sinatra ever actually wrote any of his own material? It was much less common in those days for singers to also be songwriters.
Except for folk music and blues by guys with names like Blind Apple Turnover, the singer-songwriter phenomenon didn't catch fire until the rock and roll era. The rebellious spirit of the music made fans want to hear people like Little Richard and Buddy Holly, who couldn't come close to "singing" in the "proper" way.
I may be wrong but I don't think the pop singers of the first half of the century wrote very many songs, if any at all.
This thread is for Cottontop. In case you haven't read the opening post.

It is meant to be in a public forum.
We are, after all, in some way responsible for each other.
stretched 09-22-05, 03:35 AM Yo Cotton,
Well it's Ninth and Hennepin
All the doughnuts have names that sound like prostitutes
And the moon's teeth marks are on the sky
Like a tarp thrown all over this
And the broken umbrellas like dead birds
And the steam comes out of the grill
Like the whole goddamn town's ready to blow...
And the bricks are all scarred with jailhouse tattoos
And everyone is behaving like dogs
And the horses are coming down Violin Road
And Dutch is dead on his feet
And all the rooms they smell like diesel
And you take on the dreams of the ones who have slept here
And I'm lost in the window, and I hide in the stairway
And I hang in the curtain, and I sleep in your hat...
And no one brings anything small into a bar around here
They all started out with bad directions
And the girl behind the counter has a tattooed tear
"One for every year he's away", she said
Such a crumbling beauty, ah
There's nothing wrong with her that a hundred dollars won't fix
She has that razor sadness that only gets worse
With the clang and the thunder of the Southern Pacific going by
And the clock ticks out like a dripping faucet
'til you're full of rag water and bitters and blue ruin
And you spill out over the side to anyone who will listen...
And I've seen it all, I've seen it all
Through the yellow windows of the evening train...
* This all sound familiar to ya? Does to me. Heh.
hey cottontop, you should listen to the Sid Vicious version of my way, it'll cheer ya up :P
Dont give up, cottontop
Cottontop3000 11-19-05, 02:11 AM Thanks for the thoughts, water, stretched, alain. Means a lot to me.
Water, I know I've pissed you off royally since you started this thread. What can I say though, other than that I'm sorry for being such a fucking asshole. That's one thing that is very hard for me to change. So, I've taken a little sabbatical and have now returned sober and hoping for a brighter future. I hope you are doing well, and thanks again.

Hi Cottontop!
Welcome back.
You haven't pissed me off. I was just sad.
I hope you're well. :)

If the "answer" was "Blowin' in the wind", such as it were, then I'm sure the more fleet among us would have chased it down by now.

Good. I was letting my evil side show, though, huh? Sorry again. I am doing well. New meds (blah). No booze. Started working out again today at the gym here.
Are you still sad? I missed you and had to come back. I hope you are doing great! :)

P.S. I like the color of your new avatar. Much better than that yellow. Hee hee.
invert_nexus 12-02-05, 05:14 PM One road.
There's only one road.
It sure does wind though.
From J.R.R. Tolkien:
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.
Cottontop3000 12-02-05, 06:38 PM Love that Tolkien. Wasn't he a protestant, or something similar?
Catholic, actually. He was close friends with CS Lewis (of Narnia fame), who was Protestant (Anglican).
