View Full Version : How many infractions have you had?
madanthonywayne 10-12-07, 05:37 PM I see people complaining about infractions and talking about having recieved a ton of them. It makes me wonder, how common are they? Do most members recieve multiple infractions? Or is it just a few who are constantly pushing the envelope? So answer the poll. Let's find out.
Nikelodeon 10-12-07, 05:41 PM I assume everybody gets them. Either that or James R loves me. This past week has been great!

tablariddim 10-12-07, 06:17 PM I've never had one, they're as rare as sex is nowadays.
cosmictraveler 10-12-07, 06:25 PM What's an infraction?
madanthonywayne 10-12-07, 06:57 PM Who will be the king of infractions? I'm thinking the Baron.
Baron Max 10-12-07, 07:23 PM Who will be the king of infractions? I'm thinking the Baron.
I get 'em all the time, but I've never added them all up. As far as I know, they just disappear, don't they?
How could we ever know how many we've received over the span of membership? Does anyone keep track?
I seldom pay much attention to them ...as y'all have probably noticed. :D
Baron Max
mountainhare 10-12-07, 08:00 PM Baron:
I seldom pay much attention to them ...as y'all have probably noticed.
Same here.
Usually when I noticed that I have an unread PM, I roll my eyes and utter: "What have I done NOW? *sigh*" I then read the infraction, and laugh my ass off.
And send one whiny PM to the mod. Or two, or three. Then whine around the forum airing your grievances. :D
Unlike the Baron, who really does shrug it off (except for that one time :))
lol I wonder who checked the 500+ box... :D
cosmictraveler 10-12-07, 08:06 PM How can I get them, they look like something I would enjoy! ;)
mountainhare 10-12-07, 08:15 PM S.A.M:

Trolling again? No wonder you average 40+ posts a day.
shorty_37 10-12-07, 08:18 PM I have had 5

it was just a stating of facts though

what kind of dyslexic sends you a PM with the title 'dfd'?
Carcano 10-13-07, 12:58 AM The dilemma here is that if everyone received all the infractions they actually made, I doubt there would be any more than a dozen people left.
So thats no good...a dozen isnt enough to keep a forum afloat.
On the other hand, there has to be at least an appearance of law and order...so only a few infractions are actually given.

Didn't someone ask about this before ?
I think I got a whopping one back there somewhere.
Perhaps it had something to do with that term mean spirited sociopath - which I was accused of being at some point.
heh...
Ain't you gotta have brains to be one O' them ?

Nikelodeon 10-13-07, 05:33 AM I miss being able to give other people infractions.
spuriousmonkey 10-13-07, 05:37 AM Umh, .. do you really think at all? :p
I need 9 more posts before I can answer that.
inzomnia 10-13-07, 06:01 AM I could imagine a situation like this:
"Inzomnia, you have received an infraction for insulting Nickelodeon.
Regards, James R from sciforums.com"
Then I will look at the mirror...
... I insult Nickelodeon... why would I do that? even if he is really
irritating I shouldnt have done that... even if he is that bad I shouldnt
have done that.... does James R hate me..?? is there any conspiration
to kick me outta here...? :runaway:
inzomnia 10-13-07, 06:18 AM I have just got my first 5 infractions...!!! :xctd:
Dear inzomnia,
You have received an infraction at SciForums.com.

Reason: Insulting fellow members.

inzomnia 10-13-07, 06:43 AM * looking up the poll result*
Wow.. some of you apparently have received more than 20 infractions!
more than 20.. ...... ......... ..... :runaway:
Remember that some who have many won't be around to say anything.
inzomnia 10-13-07, 06:50 AM Ah yah.. it causes ban.
...
inzomnia 10-13-07, 06:52 AM Can mod receive infraction as well? Like from other mod or him/herself?
Nick, you should give infraction to yourself!
Nikelodeon 10-13-07, 07:19 AM Carefull the next one will be worth 20pts.
I've received no infractions so far, which I find surprising.
I got only one infraction. Spidergoat wanted to give me one for a comment of mine but he couldnt. So to be fair to everyone else, I sent James R a PM asking him to give me an infraction.

Hello, brother!:p
spuriousmonkey 10-13-07, 10:15 AM still I come across as more intelligent than 99% of the human population.
I call it a miracle.
And a curse.
BenTheMan 10-13-07, 10:58 AM I got two infractions, one for quoting Roman about getting a woman's attention by sticking one of my parts up one of her parts (that normally is reserved for things exiting), and another for calling Zanket a dick.
Both totally worth it.
Zero.
Somehow I feel I'm doing something wrong.
Nikelodeon 10-13-07, 11:26 AM Absane needs an infraction up his ass!

I mean - you run over ONE dead cat with a cargo van, and people label you !
HELLOOO ! Cat already dead !!!
The "mean monikker" must have been 'cos they can't see me smiling on the internet...
:D
Zero.
Somehow I feel I'm doing something wrong.
I used to think that, too.
Now I feel a strange sense of immunity to any consequence related to the things I say, and let fly with whatever vapid nonsense floats up out of the bogs of my brain, and probably equate erroneously the liberating feeling which arises with what I imagine a woman feels like when walking about not wearing a bra.
ahhh !
The rampant "unstrappedness" of it all !

lets rephrase that as well....Nickelodeon: Hitherto redarmy11, as it seems to me based on the high chance of probability under my assumption, might in a way be weaseling around the truth for personal comfort.

Sure, I just thought it might be one of those funny spellings you often see among you foriegners. You know, like color. You guys are always throwing a u in there were it doesn't belong.
So color, colour, tuberose, tuberous.

And how many Indian people speak English? They go usually for the UK version too.
In Eastern Europe we too learn British English in schools.
In Eastern Europe we too learn British English in schools.
same thing in Russia.
So
EU = 456 million
Russia = 141 million
India = 1129 million

Against US = 300 million.
Of course, all the people there don't speak English, but I'd say that there appears to be more British English speakers in the world than American.

How's it going, Zak?
Your two statements are inter-related. Since I've never recieved an infraction, I didn't know they were given a point value. How does that work? Is three points the standard for an infraction? Does it go higher for more flagrant violations?
PS For the purposes of the poll, say three.

madanthonywayne 10-16-07, 11:37 AM so what? The EU dwarfs the US. We hit 300 million ages ago.
And what does that have to do with English?
In all EU countries that I've been to British English in state schools is taught from the first grade - Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland (non-EU) - I think that that's the same in other countries as well, maybe not France.
Alright, I haven't really had a 100 infractions. Only like 15.

Yes, but many of those countries get US TV/movies. I had an aupair from Estonia that spoke perfect American English when she arrived. How? From watching American TV.

madanthonywayne 10-17-07, 01:28 AM So we are better than you. We speak American, British, our native language, and some other(s).
No, you're not better. You have to speak multiple languages because you can't drive more than a few hours without having to change languages. We, on the other hand, had the good sense to speak one language from sea to shining sea.

You also seem to fail to realize that English is not the official language of the US by law. In fact some states have other official languages. Such as French is Louisiana and Spanish in New Mexico. Hawaii in Hawaii.
You seem to be unaware that there are people in the US speaking another language. The Amish speak a kind of Dutch or German. More than 2 million people speak Chinese in the US. 1 million German.
So, you limit yourselves.
Sure, you might know Spanish personally. Still, you wouldn't know what to reply if an Amish person said Eikel to you.

Every Amish person I've ever met speaks English, albeit with a thick accent sometimes. (there are a lot of Amish in my area of the country.)
And it's fine if a few people (mostly first generation immigrants) speak something other than English. Their kids won't. Having a large geographic area that speaks the same language is definitely a plus.

So?
I speak English and two other languages on a high level.
Know several others to a lesser degree.
How much poorer the average American experience of life is by just knowing english.
I've read great literature in several languages. Imagine that. Some of that stuff you can't even access.
So please stuff your american english up a place where the sun doesn't shine.
Btw, the average american only understands american english. Many Americans have great difficulty understanding accent-free Euro-english. Because they have such limited experience with language variation.
it sucks to be you.
madanthonywayne 10-17-07, 02:38 PM I speak English and two other languages on a high level.Congratulations! I can speak English and one other language on a high level. I know several others to a lesser degree. I've read a novel in Spanish, too.

What? We get Monty Python, Are you being served?, Faulty Towers. The Office (the english version and the American), Dr Who, Dave Allen at Large, The Benny Hill Show, Trading Spaces, on and on. Americans are exposed to plenty of English English. I've never had a problem understanding it.

apparently americans can't understand written Euro-English either.
I doubt madant has ever had anyone speak european at him. It's a much different thing trying to figure out what the fuck a scotsman is saying when he's right there in your face, kilted and fueled with whiskey than it is watching it on the boob tube.

-why are americans so fat? (http://www.nutrition4health.org/nohanews/NNSp94AmericansFat.htm)
-Americans too fat for x-ray (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/5219884.stm)
-How americans became the fattest people in the world (http://www.ourcivilisation.com/diet/fastfood.htm)
Peer reviewed journals may state that Americans are fat, but on shitforums you cannot?
And what is more ironic the person that gave the infraction starts threads such as:
Gun control - US vs. rest of the world (http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=72067)
Please realise that some Americans may be offended by your stereotyping of an entire nation as "gun lovers".
I'm still expecting that some gun nuts will object to the ones I've listed. And my theory is there'll be more objections from Americans than from non-Americans.
or gun nuts as James R likes to call Americans.
Update on the poll:
So far we have 21 responses from Americans, and 76% are against the gun control measures I suggested.
In comparison we have 11 responses from non-Americans, of which 82% are in favour of gun control.
What more needs to be said?
These statistics alone should make people think.
The same person once again: stereotyping Americans based on a poll on shitforums.
spuriousmonkey 10-18-07, 01:25 AM Dutch people are tall.
madanthonywayne 10-18-07, 02:13 AM I doubt madant has ever had anyone speak european at him. It's a much different thing trying to figure out what the fuck a scotsman is saying when he's right there in your face, kilted and fueled with whiskey than it is watching it on the boob tube.
Hey, I'm quite familiar with the speech patterns of Scotsmen. I learned it from:

spuriousmonkey 10-18-07, 03:12 AM I saw now the title of my infraction: 'racism'
Apparently it is racist to call americans fat?
since when is 'American' a fucking 'race'?
Are you all retarded up there? Do you all pull infractions just from up your asses?
Dutch people are tall.
Scandinavian people are taller ;)

Predicting mod response:
1. Stop whining.
2. Take your whining to a subforum/PM, which no members ever read.
Thank you, move along citizen.
spuriousmonkey 10-18-07, 05:55 AM Scandinavian people are taller ;)
Actually, they are not. Allegedly.

Hmm interesting...
Both people are about the same height on average.
James R 10-18-07, 08:51 PM spuriousmonkey:
You're obviously confused. Let's see if we can clear things up for you.
First, it is worth noting that you received a warning, and not an infraction carrying points.
Second, the problem with your post was its unqualified nature. In future, try saying "X% of Americans are overweight" instead of "Americans are fat". Because, it is a lie to say that all Americans are fat. Many Americans are not fat, as it happens.
Peer reviewed journals may state that Americans are fat, but on shitforums you cannot?
No journal states that all Americans are fat, as you stated.
And what is more ironic the person that gave the infraction starts threads such as:
Gun control - US vs. rest of the world
Please realise that some Americans may be offended by your stereotyping of an entire nation as "gun lovers".
I never did that. You need to read more carefully. From your quote, I said:
I'm still expecting that some gun nuts will object to the ones I've listed. And my theory is there'll be more objections from Americans than from non-Americans.
No mention of all Americans being gun nuts there. I specifically referred to "some gun nuts", then in a separate sentence I hypothesised that more Americans would have objections than non-Americans.
I made no blanket generalisations. All points were carefully qualified.
I hope you learn something from this.
These statistics alone should make people think.
The same person once again: stereotyping Americans based on a poll on shitforums.
Obviously, the statistics didn't make you think.

Infraction: Inappropriate Language
You used a stereotype. Xev made a statement of her feeling, in context with the thread topic.
Generalisations and stereotypes are not permitted. You are free to hate anyone you like.

Yeah, I was joking I meant nothing by it, and even explained myself in the following posts. I can see why what I said was worse then XEV come on.....:bugeye:
So you saying that everyone around here can start listing all the groups they hate, you are giving us permission:shrug:
Btw: I don't care that Xev said it but I see other members slip of them tongue gets them infracted.
spuriousmonkey 10-19-07, 08:22 AM it probably was because you look like a muslim. They hate muslims in Australia.
looks like a christian then?

Nar mate! We love everyone 'specially Seppoes, C'mon down Sunshine.

I don't understand this. When typing something, you have the time to delete what you have said. You can read and edit what you say. Its not nearly the same as speaking and it just comes flying out with no editing possible.

I was making a comparison to what Xev just posted, what I got infracted for saying and what others are posting.
I don't really see some of the stuff Spurious is saying and getting infracted for any worse then what Xev said. That is why I am curious.
Shorty:
You can't say.......... My dad always says I get such great deals I bargain like a Jew. ( he means that in a good way ) and I didn't mean anything by it when I said it.
But that was offensive, I got infracted.....
But you can say
XEV:
"Oh I hate Jews"
.................
Jewsex
According to Sam that is ok. You can say you hate whoever you want.
So can you say "I hate gays" or any groups? I always thought that was against the rules:shrug:
Orleander 10-19-07, 09:27 AM I was making a comparison to what Xev just posted, what I got infracted for saying and what others are posting....
Yeah, I got an infraction for quoting what a student said to Ann Coulter!! Apparently 'someone' took offense to the anal sex reference in it (because THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!).
Ever heard of Karma?? :p

Don't look at me, I don't even remember reading that.
spuriousmonkey 10-19-07, 10:18 AM olala...just pubmeded obesity and americans!
I now have many peer reviewed references that I can use to call afro-americans fat. Also latinos.
Don't know if I should though, because i might get an infraction.

Nah, it's science. They wouldn't give you infractions at SCIforums for that, would they?
madanthonywayne 10-20-07, 09:47 PM OH NO! I just got my first warning! I got it for quoting the Baron and agreeing with him.
See, Zak. What did I tell you? And you'll never guess who gave it to me.
VitalOne 10-21-07, 01:24 AM I've had 10...just recounted
spuriousmonkey 10-22-07, 02:28 AM Since fucking when is 'fucking' inappropriate language on sciforums?
Dear spuriousmonkey,
You have received an infraction at SciForums.com.
Reason: Inappropriate Language
-------
"Are you fucking blind?" could be considered offensive, and potentially a personal insult.
If you believed there were valid arguments made, you should have pointed them out, rather than acting like a baby.
Please try to be more constructive in future. In short, please try to grow up.
-------
This infraction is worth 2 point(s) and may result in restricted access until it expires. Serious infractions will never expire.
Original Post:

“
Are you fucking blind. Read the thread.
Plenty of arguments there.
It's just that there are no argument there that you personally like.
That's something different, you Australian.
”
All the best,
SciForums.com
Since fucking when is 'fucking' inappropriate language on sciforums?Since it turned monotonously trite. But when modifying a relatively harmless noun, it stands out like a sore, holier-than-thou thumb.
shorty_37 10-22-07, 10:47 AM Since fucking when is 'fucking' inappropriate language on sciforums?
ahhhhhhhhh I got one for saying Fuck yesterday.....another one for saying Ass another day....Seems like it depends on who is using the inappropriate language though. I have seen alot around this place with no infractions.
But I have been warned that further talking about infractions may lead to banning!
Orleander 10-22-07, 10:55 AM Were you saying fucking and ass in realtion to sex or was it name calling?
LOL, I got one for saying bitch. But I was calling someone a bitch, not saying it like "bitch and moan" or a female dog
