Something called Superscript I think. What program are you using?

    What OS?
    What kind of document?

My first thought is Character Map.

For Microsoft Word, just go to the top and select the "Format" menu, then select "Font...",
where you should find a box called Superscript that you can check.

    Thats called a superscript:

    Like this: 5[sup]2[/sup]

You can also do a subscript

    Like this: CO[sub]2[/sub]

If you are using Microsoft Word:

    1. Select the text that you want to format as superscript or subscript.
    2. On the Format menu, click Font, and then click the Font tab.
    3. Select the Superscript or Subscript check box.

Well it would be nice if you let us know what type of document it was.

You'll find the Squared 2 is usually ASCII code: Alt+0178 [Numeric pad]
This is the usual character industry standard, accept for what Sam mentioned about the usage of superscript and subscript.

In Word, you can also hit "CTRL SHIFT =" to move into superscript mode, and again to get back to normal. "CTRL =" gives subscript mode.

Saves mucking around with the Format menu.

You can also add subscript/superscript buttons to the same toolbar that has the usual bold/italic/underline, via some menu options that'll appear if you right-click on the toolbox.
