All I do is sit in chair. Close my eyes and think of being relaxed and when I breathe I feel like Im expanding and exhale I go back to normal. When I notice my mind talking I focus on the talking and go to it and make it shut the hell up. Same thing with my body, during meditation I notice my body a whole lot. I notice the vibes in my body the pulsing and I go to those spots that stands out in my mind and flow or pulse with it in harmony and eventually it goes away or better your whole body and mind pusles in harmony with the energy. It gives me a feeling of openess like I'm out of body floating.

Why you want to learn to meditate? Just curious.

I have a lot of difficulty at times meditating because I can't get my mind to settle down. One thing that has helped me immensely is when I do feel thoughts moving in - breathing with them and instead of acknowledging them - breathing them out. Maybe, that can help you. :)

Big nerd that I am, I usualy sit up in my bed room (Usualy after cleaning, clean rooms make me happy), MAYBE play some sort of music, if I'm in the mood, heh, and then just read a book for hours, until I feel like taking a nap, wake up later and feel pretty damn good.

Another technique that I use in conjuction with breathing out my thoughts, I picked up at a yoga class. I pretty sure its common, but it's new for me and I find it really helps to relax me.

I just mentally go down my body from my head to my toes relaxing each part one by one, beginning with the top of my head, my forehead, serparating my eyebrows, allowing my eyes to sink into my head etc.

It works for me. :)

I swear, if I do Canadians way, I would end up whit a headache and anotther dirty spot on my personal record...

I do behave *a bit* Worst thing I did was getting drunk in Disney, or getting drunk and uhhh, Dunno...

Anyway, the way I meditate is just ttrying to let allt he things go...
I do listen to music often, and then it sort of happens...
I'd recomend sound-tracks, from games, series, movies, anything, alsong as it's calming you, or givving you a better feeling...

I don't like the things they play on radio, just what they make for use as background...

I mostly listen to SPC's of Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana...
I don't have a soundtrack CD, but the ones of Lord of the rings could do some good too...

That's my advise...
Some soothing soundtracks...

Good luck ;)

music without words be it classical or trance works

PS. Chrono Trigger for SNES best role playing game ever, the guy who made the characters for it is the same guy who made Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z

GOOD STUFF!

But we're getting off topic, but it very very true what you say ;)

i have trouble with meditating too. i can't concentrate and just start to think about stuff i should be doing.. only real peace of mind i get is with alcohol or possibly drugs (haven't done drugs just yet).. but drugs and alcohol are bad for meditating so i don't recommend that.

but music does help. i like dance music and trance. also turning the lights off and laying in bed and maybe burning some scented candles or incense..

oh, and lighting! i find red lighting most relaxing.. you can get different lights with just curtains or colored lamps or christmas lights and whatevers.

good luck:)

start a discussion with yourself.
Talk to your conscience. Works for me, solves a lot of me problems as well.
Although I must say, my conscience is a bit naief :(
And no, that wasn't a joke

I have many different ways of meditation. The one that works the best for me is what i like to call the roy g biv. I start with the color red and visualise a red object like an apple and I examine it in my immagination. Texture, different shades in the skin, taste, size, shape etc etc and i change from red to Orange and to yellow to green to blue to indigo and to violet by the time im done im so relaxed its easy to concentrate and ground myself and.

This is more than simple meditation though. This technique actually lowers your Brain Frequency to what is called the "Schumann Resonance"

When your brain is at this state you can do some crazy $hit.

Psy-learner
02-01-03, 03:08 PM
Hey, sly-guy...

What do you know about Schumann's Resonance?

I feel it has to do a lot more then being just that frequency...
I seen Serial Experiments Lain, and there I got some more detail on it...

It matches the average meditation state, so psychic powers and the Resonance, could it be some sort of telepathic network?

It's off-topic, sorry, but I just wanna know a bit more about it then I actually do right now.

*Nice technique by the way...
I should try that too :)*

I don't know what Lighting goes whit eachother...
But whit normal colors, I'd like blue, whit red or green...
Blue is the best color I like...
Even a bit of Blue and White or some forms of yellow and black.
I'll print my IRC/Game Nickname here in those colors :)
Normally I put - in between and color them the other way

DruncoPsyken
DruncoPsyken
DruncoPsyken

It seems Yellow and black isn't possible here, aw well...
I got a gift from mom...
It's a lamp, that would represent a torch.
The color of that lighting is much better too...
The botom is collored like a green autra, and then it goes from yellow to dark orange...

It's high up, kind of like a fire lighting, only more soothing...
Blue and Red lighting, isn't all that good.
Like yellow and black, it has to be combined in a carefull way.
I remember this from games, if the lighting isn't that plesant you dispize the badly lithen level :)

So just experiment the lighting colors till it really soothes you...
It's a great idea, but something you must make completely to your best taste...

Well, she now know's what it's called...
That's what it's about, right?

Anyway, how long you meditate...
Let's see...
Try to estimate the time, and if your meditation is very pleasant...
*I can't see why not, unless there are disturbing telepathic activities*
...tripple the time you estimated.

Most story's I've heard about a first sucsesfull or a very pleasant meditation, took up to 3 times the time then they planned or estimated...

It seems to me that the most effective way is to shut off all your thoughts. U can do it any time of day when you think about it, just don't start thinking that you will need to think about something. And if u do start thinking about anything, then stop.

I do it when i walk in the forest, or sitting down relaxed, or lying in bed before going to sleep. I also did it while writing this post (not actually when i was typing). :D

Scream and shout. Jump over what furniture is available. Light incense until the stink causes the neighbours to complain. "Pass out."

Come around. Enjoy the world, sense it. Blurr in. Enjoy yourself, sense that. Blurr out. Enjoy Nirvana, be there. Surface when ready.

Close all doors. Ground. Come back to the world, and carry on as if nothing happened.

After all, it prolly didn't.

Cheers.

The better question is what is meditation.
Everyone is different, and you can have your own unique way of meditation. For example, I picture myself walking though a field on a warm day, I see a temple on the top of a hill. I climb the hill and enter the temple. I see that it is dusty and unkept. I begin cleaning it and notice the walls are made of brass. I shine them very bright. In the middle of the floor in the temple is a round brass pit. I pour oil in it and light it. I feed the flame with my mind until it reaches the top of the temple. The brass walls lighting up.

The temple is my mind.

Visualization is a good starting place.

1.9.1, i like your method of meditation.

i wonder why some people say you shouldn't think of anything.. that's impossible, how do you not think? i can't do it, i've tried a million times. the more i try the more i think. anyway, i think it's better to picture something like that temple thing..
heh btw as i read that i pictured a temple from Stargate SG-1...

Hi,
One way to meditate without really thinking about much is while having sex. Yes, I am serious, there are beliefs that teach this. That the best way to be in the "now" is while having sex.

After all, most are not thinking about tomorrow at work, or
the dishes that need to be done, they are just feeling.

I know what you mean about meditation that is nothing.

Of course you will have so many people telling people that there is only one way to meditate, just like they will tell you there is only one true religion. Ha! They don't look beyond defination.

On a clear night I like finding a bright star and meditating on it. You will begin to see all the colors of the spectrum, and it will appear to be spinning. When this is happening not much else is going on in the mind but the question that begins to arise in you mind like "Is that a star?" :bugeye:

:D
Life is good,
Beyond definition.....what can we see?

I think meditation is the opening of the senses and being aware of all that is around you, and sometimes things that are far away.

Most importantly, Peace within yourself and being at peace with life.

Druids came up with blacklights, they supposedly weaken the world walls (spirit/physical.. would explain why people on hallucenogens find them interesting)

They had a light called a Pelan-Tan I think. It was a big blown glass sphere dyed a deep deep blue. They would put a black candle in it and because of the spheres color the candle stick would be invisible, so all you could see would be the flame, which is busy looking all blue.. and then to top it off they would use fine thread and hang them in trees and in caves and stuff so it would just be a Blue floating orb in the darkness... hehe cool as hell.

I find I meditate best in the woods, or outside, specially in a nice sunbeam, add flowing water or a waterfall and now Im cooking with gas! Focusing on martial arts forms specially Iai-do (my fav) does wonders to make my mind shutup, physically or just mentaly going over them, or I try to listen.. not just with my ears though.
Once when leaning on a tree deep in the woods after a spell of just listening I could swear I heard voices, I could have been driftin to sleep but either way... the trees were talking about me =)

floating orbs and flames, how cool

too bad i can't find peace.. i guess that's why i'm not very good with meditating, i can pull off something of the kind in the right surroundings, but it's damn hard with all this shit in my life adn therefore in my head...

Susanndrea, if there is shit in your life you need to flush it.

I know its easier said then done, but it is possible. Dont ever let anyone or thing hold you back from happieness. If you dont like your job, start looking, if you dont like the classes your in change your studies, dont like your parents......well... uhh cant help ya their hehe. If you dont like where you live start looking, its all possible if you are motivated.... Just think how lazy the average person is, and then you gotta remember that half the population is even lazier :D

Here is a technique that might work for ya though. I got this out of a book and tried it myself and found it pretty usefull..

Visualise a small candle more importantly the flame. Focus all the crap and shit in your life into the flame, feed it, kinda like blowing on hot coals, let all the stuff that bugs you be the flames fuel, the flame will prolly get bigger the more you feed it, feed it untill there is nothing left. Give it a shot and let me know if it helps at all :D

susanndrea

thanks, but i don't know if that'll help.. the shit in my life isn't very removable. but i can try.. i'm just not expecting much cause i tried the put-the-shit-in-a-box thing and they just appeared outside the box no matter how i imagined them in there. my mind has a will of it's own. i should've mentioned i'm OCD. so it's obsessive thoughts for me.. not much i can do.

but i'll try the flame thing anyway.

Meditating is not such a big deal unless you choose to make it such. PErhaps it's not right for you, you've got to go for that which you feel most comfortable with, if you just can't meditate then don't try to meditate. It's not the end of the world. If you happen to believe in the buddist/hindu religions, you will still reincarnate in the next life and maybe your mind will be more at peace then. ;)

just sit there don't do nothing
object is not a object at all just to cease all thought
let yourself go
let the universe go
and go with the flow
probebly be spiraling down the universe
just to watch what your thinking of
you think of nothing a blank screen
thats proper medition
a piston in an engine
thats proper meditation
a glacier melting into a ocean with all its tributaries
thats proper meditation
once you achive this you can focus your energy a thought form mantras any where you want to go higher levels or demensions to magic or the unknown demensions we have no idea about but meditation is stay still a stilling of ones mind stay put and enjoy where your going
and you if you want to see through the viel you must let go of your ego and just be what you were before you were born here then you can track trace signitures to any emotion you may have learned and find out just why you were so happy or so sad or so glad or so mad at a particular time in your life

actually as concerns hinduism, meditation and prayer aren't very different at all. just sit on the floor cross-legged, straight back, and focus your mind on ONE thing, on 1 tought.

I think part of keeping thoughts from popping up into your head is motivation. Lately I've been very motivated to try to become a better person so that helps alot. When I meditate I try to find stresses, muscle tensions and stuff like that, then I try to feel them and live them out, mostly because I think I'm already used to the stuff that really bothers me and don't really feel it, they just remove from my energy without me being aware of it. So that's what I search for when meditating. It seems to me like it's a bit too easy to start focusing on ignoring the stuff that bothers me instead of really dealing with them.

I've done alot of different meditation methods from various cultures and religions. Wiccan, Buddhist, etc. There's a bunch of ways to meditate, more importantly alot of different reasons to meditate, its not really the means of getting there but the end result. When I meditate, I usally do it just to calm my mind and focus my thoughts, I usually just relax my mind, shutting out all outside influences, and focus on the Here and Now, its not really meditation, better known as Centering. I find this really good. When I first started out I used alot of visualization, this works well with beginners b/c we as people associate everything with sight. I just find that I can meditate now without visualising.

I've been doing this for as long as I can remember. I would close my eyes and know where things where without opening my eye's. It isn't hard unless your in someone elses house. The reason I can do it is because I rememberized every part of my apt's and houses in the past.
