Good guess, of course "canada" has the 2nd largest land area of all countries, so you can see how funny it is for us to have Americans just dismiss anything north of the 49th as "Canada". Bob and Doug Mackenzie sure had you guys pegged.

cool (no punn intended)
saw a good doc about syberia, and how the rural people survive the -40 temps.
at that temp, the body slows down as lack of energy is the main problem.
the syberians eat a lot of fatty horse meat.

I know it is colder here then usual at this time of year. They say this winter is supposed to be really bad.
Last yr you could go out on Christmas Day in a sweatshirt and there was no snow.

The past ten years in Minnesota, December has been the coldest month of the year more often than not. Before that, for a couple hundred years, it was January - especially the last two weeks of January.

And it has rained in January in Minnesota something like 11 years in a row now - formerly a striking, once per decade event.

It's cold in December again this year.

My own guess is that ground moisture has been less, in recent years, so that winter comes in dry and chills faster, but doesn't chill as far and starts recovering sooner after the Solstice due to the recent warming trend of winter nights.

I hate winter!!! not only is it fuking cold here. It is really icy from the snowstorm we had a few days ago.

I had the shittiest day!! :( I got a call as soon as I got home from taking my 6 yr old to school. He slipped on the ice on the yard and cut his chin wide open. I spent 4 hrs in the emergency room....thank god they were able to glue it together. If he fools around and it opens though he will need stitches. (which I pray won't happen)

To make matters worse the house smells BURNT to hell. When the school called and scared the hell out of me that he was bleeding and needed stitches, I forgot that I put the stove on. Thank god I came home 15 mins later and didnt go straight to the hospital. The house was full of smoke and the pot burnt to hell. I am still trying to get the smell out from this morning.... :(

I have them open downstairs now. He is napping it was a rough day for him.
God it is gut wrenching when something happens to them. I so wanted to :bawl: to see him hurt and so scared of the hospital. But of course we must stay tough and convince them everything will be ok......He is so damn cute and he was trying to be so brave trying to hold back the tears poor little guy.

Orleander
12-06-07, 05:20 PM
Shorty,
I did that and it is hell to get the smell out. They make basement deoderizers that absorb a lot of smell. That's what I used. Its what cleaning companies use. It works. How bad was it? I had ashes flying around.

My son broke his chin open in about the same way. We got him in right away. (small town hospitals rock!) They stuck the needle in the cut to numb it for stitches. Then a heart attack patient came in. Well, small town hospitals have fewer doctors, so they all went to him. An hr later they came back to my son. The numbing had worn off, so the needle went back in the wound. I wish they would have glued it.

I just feel sick to my stomache...it was bleeding a little bit....It doesn't look open though. I hope it doesn't come open I keep checking it like every 5 mins. He got really upset when he saw a bit of blood because he is terrified to go back for stitches. :( I really could care less about the smell right now as long as this glue does the trick.

Pharmacies sell skin glue (Dermabond). Go buy some and if his owie looks like its coming open, put some more in. Super glue works as well, but Dermabond is FDA approved for skin. Better than stitches.

Ow that's awful Shorty :(
Maybe keep him in the house for a few days. When it's cold outside he won't feel when it opens up while playing outside. I hope it heals well :)
I had that happen to me once as well, but it was in the swimming pool. I wanted to climb out of it but slipped and smacked my chin on the side of the pool. My chin split right open.

About the smell.. oh well.. if it's really unbearable you might want to get what Orleander suggested.

Anyhow, I gotta say I love winter though. But maybe that's because we get so little of it over here..
It's kind of special when it really snows or freezes here :)

Freezing rain here on Long Island. First we had snow a couple days ago which melted and refroze and then last night we had sleet. The driveway is a sheet of ice about an inch and a half thick.

We shovel the driveway and the snowplow piles us back in when they go by. I thought it was funny to see a snow plow in the ditch about an hr ago.

The snow plow hasn't come yet. I am sure it will as we are getting ready for bed.

I am sure they are!!! At least we have a jeep, and it can pretty much get out of anything.

Well it is 10:30 pm and still no snow plow. I am guessing it will come in the middle of the night, and block everyone in when they need to go to work in the morning.

Same here shorty...its gone...silence...

I kinda feel bad for the people who shoveled the roads and sidewalks clean of the snow...the half a meter walls of snow surround the cleaned roads. Tomorrow it will most likely snow again

Well it is too late now, I am too tired to go out in the cold even if it does come now.

It isn't that we can't afford one, but we don't always get snow like this.
I can just think of better things to spend money on. I have big muscles!!!
I can do it :D

yello. it's pretty cold, which sucks. Not too cold. It is around oh I don't know, it isn't freezing, but it gets pretty around there.

I sleep outside sometimes with a not so huge blanket so, I can understand that it isn't too cold yet.

Nah, Florida.

But it is pretty cold still. You can feel the feet freezing even with the shoes on !! Not freezing, though. And yes, I do sleep outside, because my parents are total weirdos.

It isn't like living with a supportive, agreeable, family.
I now have my normal little long sleeve shirt off, thou. In my house with my mom singing ho ho ho ho ho ho... lol, as loud as she can, I swear. Windows are mildly frosty. Probably gonna get even colder... no telling. lol...
