In the relative scheme of things, how big is sciforums, compared to the other forums you have encountered? Take into account total number of members, active members (ones who have posted within the last few weeks I guess), threads, posts, views, etc etc...

If anyone knows of the biggest forum out there, just for fun I'd like to check it out. See how they're doing.

From my experience I would have to say kind of big.

This here is the biggest forum I've seen, but of course the topic is entirely different. And sciforums is only about one order of magnitude smaller.

Pollux sciforums is kinda big. But most of the people who join only post once and then go away. There are alot of inactive members.

On the other hand Im huge.... Sorry somebody had to make a penis joke, might as well be me.

Actually, a more interesting comparison would be the amount of content (by # of words) that a forum generates. sciforums ought to do well in that sort of comparison, since posts here tend to be longer and more thoughtful than on other forums.

Dave,

yeah, I remember you saying you were going to add text volume against a user as well as number of posts - but that was about 2 years ago - too difficult??

It would be nice to see.

Very sad about that other forum being so large, but then I heard a TV news item a short while ago that showed that porn movies earn more revenue than all of Hollywood by an order of magnitude.

I guess those statistics show what people really think about and want to do. It is a pity that all-important science has to take a back seat.

SciForums is a nice sized site and more importantly the content is quality and most of the contributing memebers know some stuff.

I've seen bigger bulletin boards but usually they don't have good posts or people are just messing around.

here's a nice little site my cousin started NYopinion.com (http://www.nyopinion.com)

It has nice commentary articles about current events about America, NYC, some about world events, and a tiny little forum although the forum is a bit sketchy lately and it's still pretty young.
