What is the current criteria does an island like Cyprus divided in 1974 apply.They dont have a dictator regime no weapons of mass destruction. Only Lemon, Orange and Olive groves also great potatoes, beautiful beaches and lots of sunshine. Strategic location isn't bad either SLAP BANG IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MIDDLE EAST?

I haven't heard much about Cyprus. What exactly do they need aid for? The US seems to give aid to countries who both need it AND will give something back.

The US assisted Kuwait in the 90's when Sadam invaded. The USA said at the time "No one has the right to invade another country" . Perhaps our oranges, lemons and olive oil weren't worth the sacrifice.

Cyprus dosen't need anyones AID they have managed since '74 to stay strong and have rebuilt half the island and they have now met all the EU's criteria they will be joining in 2004.

WHAT COULD THEY ACHIEVE IF THEY HAD THE OTHER HALF OF THEIR ISLAND RETURNED.....After all the other half of the island is occupied by the Turks (THEY HAVENT MET THE CRITERIA ....issues with HUMAN RIGHTS etc.....)

Have the country's leader talk to our country's leader (the forign affair guys can also handle it). If you are in deep enough need and are not activly hostile to the us you most likly will get it if we can squeeze it into next years budget. It has to go through congress but nobody would risk their jobs vetoing something like that.

We are suckers for that sort of thing. Of course SOME people dont think we should meddle in the affairs of others so I guess that means giving aid as well.
