Arg. Okay, so no mtter what I do, my homepage now is for some reason res://mshp.dll/index.html#27859. I've gone through Tools > Internet Options....

And I've done the just hitting "homepage" on a different page. But it just doesn't work! It stays on whatever new page I put (www.nhl.com generally) until I restart my computer ,then it changes back to the wierdo ne.

    Ideas?
(Oh, and thanks to those who helped me out last time!)

    check your hosts file.

    c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

open it in notepad or wordpad. It should be empty. or rather it should be:

    ----------------------------
    # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
    #
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    #
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    #
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    #
    # For example:
    #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    127.0.0.1 localhost
    -----------------------------------
anything else is hijacked. It's possible, if not probable, that there is a process running that is restoring it's settings every time you try to change it.

Adaware and spybot are both extremely simple. Simply run them, update them, scan. Pretty simple. The links: www.lavasoft.com and http://security.kolla.de

There is another utility called hijack this, I've never used, but it might cure you. Do a google search for it.

There are a couple of other threads in here that are asking similar questions, check those out too.

Check your task manager to see if any strange processes are running. Most have strange names, so I'd suggest doing a search on google for the processes that are running. If you find something strange, you can disable it in msconfig.
