sooo It just became apparent to me the "sci" in sciforums.. is for science. I generally dislike science. If I had only known sooner (I wouldnt have to admit my ignorance now). I just figured it was some university forums site.. yall are so.. educated. I on the other hand didnt quite finish hs, altho I did a year at the local university as a would be guitar major with special permiss from the dean-o. I honestly cant remember how I got to this site. I mustve been doing some research and the search lead me here. Not that I plan on abandoning it. Ive learned some interesting things here, lots of things really, and a guy cant just walk away from learning even if it is science :p

science is a wonderful thing, the more you know about science the more you will like it. I urge you to continue your education, the farther you get the more fun it becomes. as my physics teacher puts it "after you have taken physics you will never look at the world in quite the same way." you don't have to do physics, the more you know about any topic the more liberated you will feel.

How do they approach the subject as a university major? What courses do you take? A lot of music theory? Classical composers? Do they concentrate on physical strength, like the ability to bar chords? (Something I've never really mastered, especially on an acoustic 12-string.) Do they admit that rock and roll not only exsists but is important? Do the professors take the people that we consider to be guitar gods seriously, such as Jimi Hendrix and Joe Satriani?

Sci

Interestingly there are both the abbreviations SF and SciFi for science fiction. SF stands for proper science fiction, such as written by Heinlein, Clark, and Asimov. SciFi refers to the pulp science fiction such as for instance godzilla vs a huge Snake.
(plagiarism warning - all stolen from Isaac Asimov)

And now we know why this forum is called sciforums and not s-forums.

Im self taught too, classical guitar. I studied classical bass viol for several years when I was a kid and play my peavy bass some now. School for guitar absolutely sucked for me. All except my private teacher prof.-wise were dicks. My private guitar teacher was head of the guitar department and was a toss up for whether he was a better jazz player than classical. He is notable as both. Unfortunately, I signed up for the school to learn to play better first, before considering performance and they had it the other way around, trying to change my ways of holding the guitar and my hands and threatening to place me in front of a 200 student member audience for finals and stuff. I never played for anyone but myself for the 15 years before school and I wasnt comfortable at all with the idea.. especially considering that I was expected to memorize my music, which was and is something Ive never done. I just read. It suits me. I can play 1000 pieces of music.

So yeah to make a long story short I made it the year with a b (average) despite not taking my midterm or finals. My teacher, the head of the department took pity apparently because we were not supposed to be able to pass at all without doing the finals. I guess he caught on to my nervousness by way of the kiddypools worth of sweat Id shed even at my private lessons. Shit. So after that I put down my beatiful hand made spanish classical guitar for about 6 years until about a year ago when I discovered I could download 100s of modern and contempory pieces in PDF format to print and play for free. Its music Ive never seen for sale or otherwise in this rather backward state I live in. Ive caught a'fire. I play for hours a day again. Dont know how I went without it, playing handdrums like congas for 6 years.. but Im healed I guess.

Fuck being taught art. Thats my opinion. Unless you fail to get it any other way I guess, then you do what you have to right? Ive not failed myself artistically in the slightest tho. A lesson to learn, or rather, teach my self.

Go here to listen to a recording of one of the new pieces Ive learned. pieces . peace. http://www.myspace.com/vossistarts

Worse than me?? Aww come on. Heh thanks. I think. er.. when did I put down my intellect? Oh I did mention I hadnt finished HS huh. I was one credit short. Lost it in the last 5 days of school by way of being late one too many times to class and having an asshole teacher INSIST I lose credit for it.

Otherwise since I got online in 96 Ive been an absolute research junky. If I have the tiniest question or curiosity, I go find the answer or the biz on it. Like every day. Im pretty well schooled in the subjects of my interest. Im really terrible at trivia though:) thanks again for your comment :") peace
