What’s got two faces and a forked tongue and scampers down a White House hawser toward the big corporate bucks on terra firma?
Ari Fleischer’s timing (http://www.nytimes.com/2003/05/19/politics/19CND-SPOK.html) is interesting. Does he know something we don’t, or does he just know the same things everybody knows but that he’s been denying?
Namely that Afghanistan and Iraq are circling the toilet bowl, that the economy is doing the same, that terrorism is on the rise, that by campaign time virtually every state and municipality in the country will be cutting services and raising taxes, and that Mr. Bush’s signature policies seem to have been designed to create these very disasters. Or maybe it’s just that he’s tired of keeping a straight face. This of course implies that Mr. Fleischer doesn’t believe a word that he’s saying, which I certainly hope is the case.
