I want to move every sentence after a period by one space.*From this.**To this. Is there any way I can do it in one hit, in a very long document?

Use find replace (Ctrl H). Replace all "._" with ".__ " (without quotation marks) where "_" is a space.

I want to create 2 spaces between a period and sentence instead of one space, moving the eggtimer won't do it.

It should do. Are you sure you elected to Replace All, rather than just one instance?

Nikelodeon
03-20-07, 05:47 PM
Huh? should do. Are you sure you typed space after the . in the first box, and two spaces after the . in the second box?

tablariddim

yep

Nikelodeon

Is the document v. v. private? How about PM'ing it to one of us - we'll change it, then PM it back?

It's word. I've used replace all many times before for changing spelling and stuff, but it's just not handling this one.

Did he say he's in Word? Idiot.

Let's start with the basics: which word processor are you using?

Is _ always a space?

Nikelodeon
03-20-07, 05:57 PM
I've tried it on a document and it works perfectly. *shrug*

There may be a considerable delay whilst it's trying to process 155,000 words. Try breaking it down into shorter sections and processing each section.

No, type SPACE not _

tablariddim
03-20-07, 05:59 PM

Use spaces.

In the Find box: type a full stop and a space

In the Replace box: type a full stop and 2 spaces.

Then click Replace All. Then wait. For a bloody long time, probably.

Nikelodeon

Sheesh.....

I used _ becasue this forum doesnt like more than space for some reason.

tablariddim

If it's MS Word, I'm surprised it can fit 155,000 words in a document without crashing all the time.

If you think MS Word sucks, consider other word processors... good god.
