Ok my cable modem was working fine a few weeks ago. Left the computer on and went to sleep. Woke up the next morning and couldn't get on the net. I figured it would work again in a few hours. Several hours later and it still didn't work. So I take the modem out and plug it into my friends computer and was surprised that it was working fine. Plugged the modem into my sisters comp and it works on there too. I figure my network settings got messed up somehow. Any help would be appreciated. Oh yea I'm running XP Home Edition.

You might have to "re-allign the network", which we have to do at my house pretty often. All you have to do is unplug the modem for like 20 or 30 seconds, then restart your comp after you plug it back in.

You might also need to set windows to get the IP automatically instead of having a specified one. If you specify an IP, and you use it for a while, then shutdown your computer for a bit, someone may take over that IP. When you restart your computer you would not be able to use that specific IP. Just a thought.

Tried everything you can think of. Used the repair feature but no luck. It's definetly my computer. I plugged in my friends cable modem into my comp and it wouldn't work.

What kind of network settings did you change?

Also, call the modem people about the problem. It could just be the modem itself. They could help you fix it.

Also, you can try to reinstall your whole PC, but I doubt you do that unless you got an extra drive on your computer.

Run a modem test, if it fails, it may need to be digitally signed or it has compatibility problems, if it does not fail, it may be your cable modem, have you had it working before?.

Are you using a main connection box?

    Sounds just like my connection!.
Perhaps you just got a shitty isp?

Give them a call, because they should be able to see if there
    is something wrong.
