Man why on earth did i start XP.  :(
nothing on earth is going correctly with my PC.
Why is that even if i "clear history"..the adress bar is still showing all sciforum
adresses whenever i type "s".
Similarly, the adressbar is showing all the "conan.wagnergrp.com "
adresses if i type c.
but surprisingly, these are the only 2 sites whose adresses it's keeping.
please tell me how to clear these histories.
I have tried everything-"clear histry","delete cookies","delete files".everything!
even restarting!

please help.atleast tell whatever comes to mind.

what browser are you using?

DNA100

Internet explorer 6.0.2900 :(

Internet explorer
that was your first mistake. you should be using firefox.

secondly, try clearing cookies, temp file, cache, and everything else. I don't remember how IE works, but just clear shit until it stops giving you problems.

clearing cookies, temp, and all the rest will not help.
the reason is because the links are being stored in the documents folder.
at least that's my guess.
when i cleared my cache, temp, cookies i noticed that some items remained in the address bar, those very same items are also in the documents folder on the start menu.

i second catos suggestion, dump IE and switch to firefox, believe me you won't look back.
you don't uninstall anything you download and install firefox, make it your default browser then stop using IE.
the only reason i use IE is to watch the occasional video on MSN, even that wouldn't be missed.

edit
there are some websites that require IE.
bit defender is one. there are also certain files on the microsoft website that cannot be downloaded without IE. those are the only 2 instances i can think of that requires IE.

A nice firefox extension. Never again open an IE window.

As to the opening question... I have no clue. Could it be the autocomplete thing? I forget where that is...
Ah. There it is. On the Content tab of Internet Options.

So you people are suggesting me to start firefox?
OK I will give it a try then. ;)
Can i download firefox for free? And invert-nexus what is a firefox extension?

But that does not tell me the reason why they are coming on my adress bar.
you are saying "document folders" in start menu.is it a name for any specific folder?
then i can't find it.but i have searched all folders in my pc but can't find them exactly.

here is the problem again

If i type s it shows:
http://sciforums.com/
http://sciforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=25
http://sciforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=32
http://sciforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=66
http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=58529
http://sciforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=30
http://sciforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=32
http://sciforums.com/login.php
etc etc
search for "s"

If i type c it shows:
C:\
http://conan.wagnergrp.com/
http://conan.wagnergrp.com/All/selectV2.html
http://conan.wagnergrp.com/select.html
control panel
search for "c"

Strangely,i have visited many other sites like say "google.com" but it
does not show google.com anymore if i clear my history and cookies.

i really can't find these files anywhere on my pc.
there are chapters of conan manga on my pc.but they are not urls.
moreover what about the sciforums links?where did they come from?I never downloaded
anything from this site.

this phenomenon really looks spooky to me.
moreover being a new XP user i am not really used to it.
XP "looks" may be far better but 98 was a lot easier to use.
there was a C drive and D drive and every file was either here or there
but now here are all kinds of folders randomly distributed everywhere.
Any suggestion on how to look for files properly?

BTW thanks for responding leopold99,cato and invert_nexus

Anotherthing, when i start my pc and do some work then -often- after sometimes i get a stupid sound(toggle sound-like -> 'ganck' and then evrything from my keyboard to my mouse starts behaving strangely. For example-i can't refresh anymore and my mouse starts selecting 5-6 icons at the same times. If i am online then moving the top wheel in the mousetakes me "back" and "forward" rapidly without saving my work.Same with keyboard-i cant type "9" it will become "(",similarly "." becomes ">".
And these things wont stop unless i reboot my pc from the beginning.

Now I know this is a bit tough but still this is a MAJOR problem for me here.
So I would like to have your advice. Was there something wrong with the XP formatting?Coz this was not before when I was using 98.

Just delete your history. Under Tools: Internet Options: General: Delete History. No need for crappy 3rd party browser.

If this does not work, do you have administrative privileges?

DNA100
10-09-06, 12:48 PM
I said it before.I tried clearng history but it remains.however the other histories get cleared.
Please read my [Yesterday], 03:59 PM post carefully to understand my problem and suggest

And what kinda "administrative privileges" do you mean?
I know some people who can probably help but they remain busy so i don't want to disturb them coz they are not that close to me.The problem is my own depth in pc knowledge is too little so i am relying on you people.please try to help. :(

I really really donot want those histories to remain for eternity.

Sounds like your shift key is firing all the time.
- Shift + wheel does forward/back
- Shift x 5 is stickykeys. e.g. the ganck
- Shift + F5 does not refresh
- Shift does multiple select
- and 9 -> ) ...

It could be a physical problem with a shift button, a fucked PS 2/USB port, connector, who knows? If you have a spare keyboard you could try that.

Hit the Window button + r and put in C:\Documents and Settings\Yourusername\Local Settings\History

Try deleting everything in that folder

No no voodoo child.I wasnt looking at any porn thing.
It's not that i never do those things but on this occasion i wasnt.:D

hardly a week has passed since my pc was formatted and doing those things really never came to mind.

The history folder is empty. That's true.
And histories that my pc is keeping are from 2 particular sites
1>sciforums.com(this 1)
2>conan.wagnergrp.com(this is an online detective manga site)

the adress bar does not show it all the time.
but only if i press 'c' or 's' the adress bar comes up with all those options(which i gave in details).
but normally it doesnt show them.
It' just too annoying to continuously tolerate something i can't explain.

That's why please help if possible.:(

I mean that history problem.

And about that ganck problem..well it doesnt seem that my pc has completely recovered from it but i am being troubled by it much less frequently. And I do have a spare keyboard but this 1 is the new one .that other keyboard has many damged keys.

What I found was this:
Open up Internet Explorer, Goto Tools then select Internet Options...
Once you've done that select the Advanced tab.

In the scroll box scroll down to the Security section (a little yellow lock) and tick the line with Empty Temporary Internet Folder when the browser is closed written.

Make sure you Apply, then Ok your way back out of the options. then close your browser down, you should find it gets rid of your URL's, although on mine it shows the filenames that are located on the Desktop instead. (however this might just be my settings)

Did you try to clear the autocomplete cache like I recommended?

Voodoo Child
10-10-06, 06:44 PM
Run regedit and look at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs
and manually delete the keys you don't want. The usual registry caveat applies.
Alternatively, download Firefox, Opera or IE 7 RC1 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=94E5BF41-2907-4415-8F72-DA7C2C2ACE09&displaylang=en).

@stryder

No that did not help. For a moment it looked though as if it was working but soon i found the same things showing if i type "c" or "s".
BTW my computer also shows filenames located on desktop, favourites, and related documents which were recently opened.

@invert nexus
Actually what helps a bit is not the clearing the autocomplete cache(clear forms ,clear password) but unchecking the "web adresses" option in 'use autocomplete for' section under content>autocomlete.
if i untick that option it no longer shows those site names that i said earlier when i type c and s.thanks for that.
however, if i check that option back.it again starts to show those those urls when i type c or s.

while that helps a bit but i want those adresses permanently removed from my pc. :)

@voodoo child.
i have already started using firefox for about 2 days now. This browser does not have any such problemsn and it also allows me to view total full screen videos unlike IE6.
you people--thanks for advicing it.

however, this does not clear away the problem with IE.i just can't understand why this kind of thing is happening.

after running regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs
i found this--
ab(default)name,REG_SZ type,value not set data
I didnot find any key or anything like that. And it did not help much.

BTW what is a firefox extension. And what is fasterfox?

leopold99
10-11-06, 04:51 PM
BTW what is a firefox extension.
an extension is similar to an added function.
for example i have a wayback extension.
all i have to do is click the wayback button and i can access all of the archived pages of the site i am currently on.

Invert has it right. I'm certain.

Open the Tools menu.
Select Options.
Select the Content tab.
Click the AutoComplete button.
Deselect the Web Addresses checkbox.
Click the Clear Forms button.
Click OK, click OK.

Done!
This is a common problem, and a real pain in the rear.
