SciForumites,

I am relatively new to the site and have made a few posts. I racked my brain just trying to pick a screen name and now I ask for you help/ input. I am looking for a really good avatar. Perhaps a neet little subtitle thing that people have, and whatever else you can help me with to become an entertaining poster.

I am creative and intelligent, but this is a community and I thought as a new member I could help unite the community in the construction of one of its newest members.

Most people when deciding an avatar tend to pick things that reflect them, if only a little bit. Perhaps its an avatar based on a hero, or a subject or just some zany photoshoped picture of yourself with a Sheep (okay, I'm basing this on a few of the avatars that have floated around sciforums for about 6 months)

I think you should adopt the guise of a huge gaping vagina.
With teeth.

Vagina dentata.
Freud wrote about this, you know.

Why not an animated goat having sex with something. That seems to be the popular trend. Or is that out already? Am I late?

I block ALL avatars, because avatars distract the person's really identity. A person's identity is determined on who and what they are, and who they stand for and how they speak, not on a simple materialistic, ridiculous, sometimes absurd and obnoxious symbol!

Do you also block their usernames?

I disagree. A symbol is very important, it allows you to take a feeling, idea, or concept and be able to see it, maybe even touch it and so on. Like a flag or wedding ring, or even a swastika. These are just objects, but they are objects that show others who we really are, what we stand for, what we hol important. Love, nation, hate, liberty, etc etc They all have symbols

I try to be strictly intellectual and I am much more interested in what the person has to say than the distracting symbol that they present to the viewer.

Yeah, I don't put too much stock in it myself, but if you know that the pictures and so forth are silly and meaningless then you can refrain from judging a person on it. I just think it would be a fun little addition. Like the stupid little things people put on their desk. They usually don't mean anything, just space filler for decoration and entertainment

It is actually quite difficult not be be influenced at some level by a poster's avatar, I think. Usernames as well... but not to the same degree. Hmmm.... could be a research project in there...

Why be distracted by their Christmas ornaments?
