Isn't Jean-Luc his first name?I'm not a French scholar but I know that in some cases the name after the hyphen serves as a middle name. Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin changed his name to Frédéric-François Chopin after moving to his father's country, but it is usually spelled without the hyphen. In fact I almost always see it without the François.

"Computer query father's name." And the Big Brother coputer would fill it in for him, in fact i would guess that taxes would be done automatically to avoid cheeting.

Yes...even though "money isn't a primary motivating factor in the future", it's clear that fleeters some sort of monetary compensation...examples: in the first ep of TNG Dr Crusher charged her Farpoint purchases to her name on the Enterprise. And generally, Riker is a well known gambler, which means he had to have money in the first place.

It remains to be seen however...if they were taxed :)

Trade...the Terran folk seem to trade mostly sciency and tech stuff...I seem to remember an episode where a ferengi was recommending a price for a de-weaponed constitution class starship. If Kirk didn't blow it to bits, the original Enterprise would have been deweaponed and sold!

Everyone else would have items of varying value, like dilithium crystals, ship grade metal, cultural artifacts or even intangibles like labour.
