Does anyone here have any experience with HDTV? Is anyone getting any HDTV channels? One of my favorite TV channels is Discovery, and I noticed that I can subscribe to Discovery HDTV, but it is like $7.99 a month. For the channel. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Oh the other hand, we are already getting some HBO HDTV, but up until now I haven't had a receiver to work with it. Maybe soon.

Oh and the PPV HDTV channel charges like $8 per movie. I think that is a little expensive.

By 2006, all TV signals in the United States and Canada has to be digital (DTV). After that, you can bet that HDTV will be booming. I think TVs will start incorporating HDTV decoders and thus eliminating the need for an external receiver. The only HDTV channels my provider (DishNetworks) offers are:

NBATV (OK, where the hell is the NHL channel?)

Discovery HD Theater

HBO HDTV (Free with the HBO package, which I have)

Showtime HDTV (Free with the Showtime package, I don't have it)

CBS HDTV East and West

The quality of the pictures is only as good as the production. Some channels are super high quality but most are not. When all TV switch to digital signals in 2006, it wouldn't make any difference.

cool....looks like we're better off than you. we get hbo, discovery, national geographic, and many other cahnnels at the same rate. i think it's like rs. 40 per channel or something.

and 1 dollar is 45 rupees. so we get it at less than a dollar.
:p

We're talking HDTV here, not regular SDTV.

Give me 12,000 dollares for a decent 42 inch HDTV and i'll tell you what i get. I do know that all the major sports games are broadcasted in HDTV signal and infact most of the primetime stuff on the major channels i.e NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC is broadcasted in HDTV signal. I guess in 2006 and thereafter the prices will start falling significantly for HDTVs but as for now it is too expensive for a decent size.
