Yes, Hawaii passed a specific exemption to FOIA to protect Obama, Act 100, the law was specifically crafted to apply only to a specific request other wise it would be illegal.

Now if Birth Certificates were not open records under FOIA, did Hawaii need to change the law on May 13, 2010?

According to your article, the State of Hawaii passed the law to protect state resources from engaging in redundant and waste of state resources.

There is nothing new here. Obama has provided his birth certificate to all. State officials have testified to the veracity of Obama's published brith certificates.

So if you can show how much better off the world with be with an additional copy from the state, you may have a case. But until then, you don't have a case.

joe according to the article, the law had to be crafted so specifically around Obamas Birth Certificate so it would be legal and not contravien the FOIA law.

Fine, the state is getting pummeled with redundant requests which is a waste of state resources. Personally, I think the state should raise fees for this sort of request and make it a profit center.

Copies should be free to the person whos birth is on the certificate or an immediate family member. But for anyone else, the fee for a birth certificate should be $1,000 per copy.

The State of Hawaii could make a lot of money that way.

Why do they hand out birth certificates to just anyone anyway? They should require an NOC from the original person

Birthers can be so irrational and repetitious that it is best to just shut down their noise. I like your profitizing idea though, Joe. Of course verifiable copies are freely available, but nothing will satisfy birthers but the alteration of reality to suit their preconceptions.
