View Full Version : Have Threads Changed Your Mind?

I come to SciForums to challenge my point of view – to hear from people that disagree with how I feel. Occasionally, I am moved to reconsider my position, or adopt a new position altogether. How often has a thread made you reconsider your thoughts and caused you to adopt an alternate viewpoint?

:m: Peace.

Has a sciforums thread changed my mind on something completely? No, not yet. Some have refined my thinking on some topics, but nothing here's totally changed my mind on something yet. Assuming, of course, that you leave aside the physics and maths threads :D

But threads on other boards have certainly managed to do so.

perhaps a few examples on just how your viewpoint changed might make for some interesting reading. do share! perhaps few laughs could be had.

definately learned some stuff, forced me to get out of my comfort zone and do more research, which can only be a good thing.

"Wisdom is defined by ones capacity to learn"

"Wisdom is not knowing how much you know, but realising how much more you have to learn"

.....or something like that:bugeye:

adopting new postions is quite radical (well unless you are a kid and did not hae one to start with). surely the posters here can elaborate on the nature of the attitude change. yes? no? maybe. if i remember i will?

I'm interested to know the specifics of such conversions......I highly doubt that the goofy that I got to briefly know has experienced a born again episode.

perhaps it just a matter of semantics. perhaps a discussion "cleared up", "clarified", the issue at hand rather than create a new paradigm of thought.
or perhaps it is being exposed to bigger and better facts that leads one to adopt a point of view that could possibly be radically different to the one previously had

or perhaps i have been smoking too much weed today

Yes, but it was actually do to watching other people argue my point of view, and failing completely.

Its happened to me on little trivial issues I don't really care about but none of my big beliefs have been rocked:)

Don't you think that this is purely your prespective though, the other person is convinced that they creamed you and tells all his friends about it in private messaging and who knows if a judge was appointed to assess both arguments he may decalre both of you as licensed professional idiots.
