I think?! :bugeye: BloodSuckingGerbile 02-13-03, 03:12 PM I have 1.5 years until I join the Israeli army. There are three options: Combat option - paratrooper, pilot, commando, tank operator, anti aircraft gunner, armored vehicle driver, medic, diver, seaman, submariner, etc. the "Atuda" (finishing university before being recruited) - officer rank as soon as recruited, various scientific fields in the military, like physics, math, computers, cool stuff like hi tech electronics of space sattelites. I think I'll take that. third option - the "Jobnik", includes cooks, assistants, soldiers who work amongst citizens and are in no danger of being ever hurt in any way - least respected option. Other soldiers hate them and do weird stuff to them like bite their nipples. I'ts a military tradition. Lots of stuff to choose from. Most of the elite combat units require the highest profiles, which I'm not going to get because I'm short-sighted (about -4). If I wasn't I would definitely go for a pilot. I guess I'll take the second option... No heroic death for me... :( Gifted 02-13-03, 04:18 PM Been in the U.S. Air Force for almost two years now. It's been interesting to be living in Germany. Depends on whether they can use your Ph.D - what did you research? 2. Don't understand what you mean here. 3. Again, depends on the branch. THe upper age without previous service is usually 28 - a bit later for some branches. Since you've had previous service, it depends on what and how much. I have some links that you might follow. Go first to: http://www.mech.gla.ac.uk/~rthomson/stuff/stuff.htm If you don't get what you're looking for there, give me some more info. I don't know whether Philosophy would be of specialist use. The upper age for Officer training is 30 - but it's higher for those with previous service. What rank? Depends what you reached before. We were doomed to die somewhere in Germany - I've seen lots of woodland there. Then did a tour as Company Commander with UOTC (ROTC in US?) then (briefly) OC of a Field Squadron, then OC of a Bulk Petroleum Specialist Team (supporting RAF Stations in UK, Cyprus, Gibraltar, Germany). I went to Scotland, Ireland, England, Bermuda, Nova Scotia, and almost got to Cuba. We were on our way there when Kennedy announced the embargo during the missile crisis, so we turned tail and ran. So much for going in harm's way. While in Scotland we were involved in the battle of the Lacarno Ballroom. It seems that the Limeys got mad because the women were more interested in the Yanks, so they started a grand ol' donnybrook. There were tables and chairs flying from the mezzanine onto the combatants on the main floor, while fists and feet were flying around everywhere. What a mess. We also were in trouble in England when one of our stupid deck apes insulted the Queen. That was a memorable trip. I was thrown into the ship's brig for three days on bread and water for accidently starting a race riot. After all that they still wanted me to re-inlist, and when I refused, they still gave me an honorable discharge. I would like to have given them a discharge. I was never so happy to get out of a contract in my life.
