I knew someone would start a thread. Yep, tis the best game I've played in a long while. I'm at the prison at the moment. Very well made game, very very well made game. This definatly wipes the floor with Halo 2.

ANyone else finding the AI to be lacking?

I certainly was disapointed to run into an invsable wall within my first hour of play (Taking the Airboat through the Tube by the Wreck with the 2 Missile launching Car type things.
I got to the ramp you need to use by jumping my boat over the wall using the rubble as a ramp instead of blowing the Red shipping crate open and driving in through that and hit an invsable wall on the ramp!!!! it disapeared when i blew the crate on the other side of the map!!!
Very dissapointed so far but great physics and Graphics!!!

Can't be that far behind can I?

Yeah there's a few niggles and the AI is alright but I'm only playing it on easy (to get a feel for the game so my team can start on our mod) but I'm sure the AI is amazing on the most difficult level.

And I love the industrial music that plays when your on the hoverbike. That made my day

That much better than halo 2? Hmmm. May have to get it.

I have enjoyed halo 2 so far though its not groundbreaking or anything. You guys playing the halo 2 campaign in co-op mode? That is much funner than single player.

Sorry for these stupid questions:
Are you talking about PC or Xbox? Is Halo2 available on PC? Is half-life available on xbox? can you really compare xbox graphics to pc graphics?

Thor
11-17-04, 12:19 PM
Half Life 2 is PC only at the moment but there are plans to launch and XBox version. Halo2 is XBox only with no official plans for a PC release but we all know that's coming.

And you can compare the two as the XBox is just a PC with gamepads. An outdated PC I might add. It was old before it came out.

11-17-04, 01:04 PM
So is it even a fair to compare the two games. I mean you can by 2 xboxs consoles for the price of a graphics card (alone) that can run halflife. Alright maybe I'm exagerating on the cost of graphics cards but you can't compare the cost of hardware required to run the 2 games. Obviously, we'd expect PC games to be better. The fact that console games even come close in quality to PC games puts them ahead IMO. -- (sure we use computers for other things too but we don't need $200+ graphic cards and 1G ram for "other things").

Thor
11-17-04, 02:17 PM
There's no such thing as "other things" to a gamer.

w00t, just completed Half Life 2, I is proud. Ending was shite but the game in all is amazing

How long did it take you???
I have played it for about 6-7 hours

My friend just phoned me saying he has a problem installing halflife2 it says

'error 1335. the cabinet file 'hl22.cab' requred for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the cd-rom, or a problem with this package.

a few minutes into installation could anyone help him???

I WANT TO HAVE IT!!!! Damn fuckers in Austria send it on its way yesterday, I hope I get it tomorrow. Can't the post company deliver faster?

Oh, if anyone thinks it is strange that I ordered it in Austria, I can only answer, it is impossible to preorder the German version (and the English version) in Germany itself because it is rated 18+ and no company goes through the hassle of checking all the IDs of those who order the game.

I find the price well worth it, at 4 times the resolution of an Xbox, with Anisotropic filtering, Antialise (Halo on PC can’t run with Antialise), Direct x9, Halo on PC looks far far better then on Xbox and Halo on the PC looks like shit compared to some other PC games! Not to mention the free games you can get with a PC thanks to pirated software downloading, considering all the games I have pirated it has more then made up for the price difference of the video card and extra ram!

Have you guys fought the Tripod robot? I think they call it a Strider.

Anyhow, there's a trilogy of books by Christopher John called the Tripods, where aliens conquer earth and rule it by riding around in giant tripods. They also control people's mind by sticking metal shit in your head.

Anyhow, those tripods just reminded me of it.

They ain't tripod, they're...quadpods and take a helluva lot of rockets to take down. And it ain't fun trying to take out 5 of them with no ammo, you have to sacrifice your men to steal their ammo.

Ah, just passed the prison, you're about 2/3 of the way there. Now it get's hard for you Ghost ;)

Wow, just completed HL2, I have to say, it has one of the most gripping single player campaigns I know. That's why I played it through in two days, since I just got it Friday afternoon.

Damn, that game is so much fun. Good work from the programmers. :D :D :D

ElectricFetus

Half-life 2 was better than I expected. I feared that it might be a cheap seconds part that would always be overshadowed by the first game... this was definitely not the case. I think it was better than HL and it was worth buying.

This game is brilliant on so many levels. The cosmetics are amazing. The sounds are the best they can be and even the code...man, the code...they've turned code into an art form. I lvoe it and it's so much fun to mod with.

I just bought Half Life 2. Bad news is I can't run it, because right now I'm sitting behind a firewall which won't allow Steam to open the appropriate ports to set up an account. This is very annoying, to say the least. I don't suppose anybody knows a way around this...?

I will be moving house in a few weeks time, so it might just have to wait until then.

Thor
11-24-04, 07:22 PM
How about temporarily removing the firewall? You know, for a few minutes? Or are you worried all those hackers that are on stand-by 24/7 waiting to get at your goods may strike? lol

James R
11-25-04, 12:23 AM
It's not a personal firewall, Thor. I don't control it.

mercurio
11-25-04, 11:17 AM
Thor, again, it is not his personal firewall, he's on some shared filtered access or something. He'll have to outsmart it, by setting up his own proxy. Depending on the owner of the firewall, not entirely risk-free, though. It's considered 'hacking' by some people... some of the smarter spyware and trojans do the same to your firewall btw.

Once inside they turn off all your security, or just the required gates. James's luck is: he's already 'inside', so to speak. He wants 'out'. So he has to make the firewall think it's sending info to 'allowed addresses' (and ports) both inside and out, and noone in the systems dept the wiser.... ;)

Anyway, Steam has banned 20,000 illegal copy-owners already:

This patent is based on a firewall idea, originally, but could theoretically be extended to Steam, meaning: to avoid litigation they'd have to cough up dough they don't have or want to spend...

United States Patent 5,987,611; "System and methodology for managing internet access on a per application basis for client computers connected to the internet ".

(tech note: if it uses 'TDI monitoring' in any way, it's up shit creek - narf. )

Stryder

It's possible to tunnel ports that are blocked through other open ports, however you would have to know which ones are open and allowed.

As for Halflife2.....

Well for all of you that were complaining Halflife2 now has a Demo out, I believe you can now download the Demo through Steam... so no more whinning.

Ending was shite but the game in all is amazing

I was not very satisfied with the ending of this game too, on the other hand I am because it's the best game-ending in a while. I downloaded hl1 just to get to know this g-man (the man at the end with the suitcase) and understand the plot a little more. I am anxious for half life 3 but unfortunatly that will take a while :(.

I'd give halo 2 a 7,5 or something and hl2 definatly a 9 to 10.

Stryder

Searching the www.steampowered.com (Http://www.steampowered.com) forum deals with most problems.

simply over the past couple of months there have been a few engine updates to fix a few problems like stuttering etc. When you startup Halflife 2 you might not have Steam logged in with the automatic update turned on, this means you could have a Map which came with your retail CD which is now out of sync with the map thats downloaded from Steam.

To fix the problem you will need to make sure that Steam has updated all it can update to bring your engine and maps into a compatible state. Of course make sure you are online when you do this.

The actual warning should read "Node Graph our of date. Rebuilding..."

after trying to use steam on HL1 there was no way i was going to pay for anything that relied on what has to be the shittiest program since windows, hence the reason i got a copy.

where did you get your crack? mine must be from a different version
