I donated to Partners in Health. Supposedly the Red Cross is corrupt and not much of your money will go to Haiti.
http://www.yele.org/. It's founder is Wyclef Jean. We donated after a National Geographic story. We donated again because of teh earthquake. Our area schools (5 of them) are having a fundraiser. If you bring a $1 you can wear a hat in school. You'd be surprised at how many kids want to wear a hat and how quickly $1 adds up. My daughter is wearing a gold top hat from last New Years.
I sent mine through CARE. But you've aroused my interest - do you have any real info that shows the Red Cross to be corrupt? If so, I'd like to see it and I imagine millions of others would also.
There was a big to-do about the 9/11 money. People felt not enough of it was going to the victims. There are now checks and balances in place, but I don't think some people have let it go. As a group, I think they are wonderful, though there may be issues with smaller local chapters Normally we would donate to them, but since we are already donating to Wyclef Jean's charity, we just did so again.
I sent mine to UNICEF. I also would like to know what evidence there is that the RED CROSS is corrupt. I find that hard to believe, but am willing to consider some actual evidence by a reliable source. ...traveler
Mercy Corps. I donated too early, because I learned today that my company is matching donations 2 to 1.
I was at Costco Wholesale, yesterday, and donated ten bucks which goes directly to the Red Cross efforts in Haiti. ~String
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/09/us/09blood.html?_r=1 The recalls could have been prevented if the Red Cross had followed its own procedures, the agency said. The Red Cross has struggled for years to put its multibillion-dollar blood business, by far its biggest money maker, into compliance with federal rules. In a case unsealed this year in Federal District Court in Washington, a former Red Cross quality-control manager accused the organization of releasing 607 pints of contaminated blood in New Jersey, even though Red Cross officials knew that the blood had been improperly collected and exposed to air. http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/01/posted-by-soandso-soandso-team.html Interestingly, Google didn't mention the Red Cross as a way to donate.
REPLY: The RED CROSS is consistently referenced as one of the reliable organizations to donate to on television. Google does not mention them ? I gave $50 to UNICEF and was considering the RED CROSS as my next recipient. You can find what you want using the google search engine depending on the SEARCH WORDS you use. Have you found evidence of misuse of funds or such ? I really do want to know. I am a person who does care and wants what money I contribute to go to good use. I am not saying the RED CROSS is not guilty of misusing funds. Just now, I seem to recall: Elizibeth Dole being paid A LOT for running the RED CROSS for a while. I did find this as to RED CROSS salaries :[ http://www.communicationagents.com/...wn_651957_salary_bush_strafes_new_orleans.htm ]. Well, I started out defending the RED CROSS and now have crossed them off my list of recipients. What can I say ? ...traveler
LOL! Good job you fools. You are donating money to the government. Your donations help kill innocent people all over the world. You wonder why your lives suck.
REPLY: Is there a particular organization you are referring to ? Or any and all of them ? ....traveler
REPLY: You are also full of crap. The USA is the most committed country to the salvation of HAITI there is. I guess if it was up to someone like you we would all sit back and watch them die. Many of us Americans care and give and try to help. What do you do ? Cheer on the terrorists ? ...traveler
i was going to say why isnt anyone donating to doctors without borders. Anyway we will donate to whichever one PBs company is collecting for because they always match staff donations
