I had a thread about him here before. Amazing, amazing writing. I believe Tiassa called it perfect.

very very good..almost perfect..i know this site which has posted a LARGE number of his short stories, essays and poems.

it's gizmology.com...i think its a link or something...just go to google and type in h.p. lovecraft library...it would be your first or 2nd option. read his stories on a very rainy day or stormy day...very chilling.

Wow, what a coincidence.

I just cleaned up in here and while I went through some old books I had put in the back of the shelf I spotted H.P Lovecrafts Necronomicon, so I layed it on the table to read later. Cool but weird book, not saying that weird is bad -- a bit odd for the mainstream reader perhaps. It will certainly be my nightread tonight. :)

I was reading about him last month... what was the concept/cult/being that he created in one of his books? I dont remember exactly which book it was in.

Couple of questions: Did he commit suicide?
Didn't he marry a woman, but she died shortly before his death?
Which book should I start reading (I know he wrote a plethora of essays and poems, but I am looking to start a book)?

He created quite a few beings - most notably, Cthulhu.

Couple of questions: Did he commit suicide?

No, he died of intestinal cancer (or bowel cancer - this is just off the top of my head).

Didn't he marry a woman, but she died shortly before his death?

He married a Ukranian Jew named Sophie somebody or other, but Lovecraft was no lover. They seperated and eventually divorced years before he died.

Which book should I start reading

I recommend the Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath, At the Mountains of Madness and a collection of his short stories - this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0141182342/qid=1050475244/sr=1-5/ref=sr_1_5/102-0986262-1168959?v=glance&s=books) is a very good one.

you could start by reading 'the shadow over innsmouth'.

a song by metallica called 'the thing that should not be' is based on this story.

I'm reading the Shadow over Innsmouth right now and I have that book you mentioned at the end of your post, Xev.

Just for kicks...

If you enjoy that type of fiction, I suggest picking up The Year's Best Science Fiction by Gardner Dozois....... It's released every year, filled with some pretty amazing authors.

Lovecraft is good rainy day reading.
My favorite Steven King short stories
are based on a Lovecraft style- "Crouch End",
"Home Delivery", "The Rats in the Walls" and
bit's of "IT".
