View Full Version : Guru needed...?
Is there anyone with significant knowledge in Hinduism, especially Shakta? I'm currently thinking about taking up a relig, and I might need advice before I blindly jump in. Or blindly swim.
Anyone wanna be an online guru? :D
http://www.hindu.org/sciences/
www.abhidhyan.org seems nice
well if you insist
first...empty out your bank acct and await further instructions!
thanks

UltiTruth 01-16-03, 01:18 AM There are really two different ways to go about it, I think.
First is to gobble up all the Hindu literature trying to understand the core of it for which you would need a guru or
Second is to understand the essence of the religion in its spirit. I think most Hindus would not be able to dole out from the texts and scriptures, though they understand and practise what it really means. For this, I guess discussions on this board would suffice!
:p
The true Hinduism (the essense of veda or sanatana dharma) is a state of mind. The best solution is to read up all the topics in this section (E.Phil) and then ask questions.
But if you want physical presence to rituals and companions, or even something comparable to Christianity - that is a whole different issue.
Ehh. Just go for Taoism; it's more fun.
evolove 01-17-03, 05:50 AM Yes you need a Guru......A real Guru, and you need to meet them in person, if only once
How do you tell a false guru apart? Well, I suppose a demand for $9999999999999999999999999999999 for initiation would be a fair sign...
I can settle for six figures....:D :D
Rajagopals 01-21-03, 05:26 AM Having a detailed Q&A session would be ideal before you start it. I may be able to give some suggestions / answers.
:)
Q: How exactly would you go about converting to a tantrik vegetarian diet without causing significant bother? (I have these staunchly omnivore-bordering-on-carnivore parents, and they pretty much flip out when things don't go their way...if vegetarian diet is about non violence, this pretty much loses the point, if you cause mental violence to ... ARRGH never mind)
Q: Farming causes significant death to the animals living in the field. How would I go about dealing with the evil karma from eating the veggies that caused death to mice, frogs, etc?
Q: How exactly does onions, garlic, or mushrooms harm you?
Heck of a lot more on the way, just dietary stuff for now...
o fickle one!
you have spurned the wrong bhagawan!
prepare to meet the consequences!
;)
Spookz,
Mind it.Not many people know whats a Bhagwan...
isnt it?
;)
bye!
Km is Veryyy Costly...
I"ll settle for Hundred Thousand... with some additional Siddhi's provided...
thanks...
bye!:D
What Spookz and others including me say Plus some addons it is true that currently this is what Indian Gurus have become.
But real Gurus dont come forward. My Grandfather(Maternal) has a guru who was a Shishya of Shivanna Maharaj.Shivanna Maharaj could do astral Projections and could convert himself into anything. My grandfather had seen this actually happen while passing through the forest, while he was trying to follow Shivanna Maharaj. He shapeshited to A Lion. and thats true.Everyone in that City knows this fact.He lived for about 200 years.and he died because he just wished to.
thanks.
bye!
Empty Dragon 01-24-03, 12:14 PM Interesting...Can one of the resident yogis tell me about there systems? I would appreciate it. I've always been curious about the Indian practices but usually spend my time with Taoist practices.
Empty Dragon 01-24-03, 02:11 PM LMAO.....no seriously.
It is simple. Expand your awareness from self to the universe(Local to global).
Right. Tell a rookie basketball player to simply get the ball into the hoop and he'll make it to the NBA.
In that case, you either need a Guru to reduce the time that takes to master the art or try yourself by reading, experimenting etc...until you are aware. The second path takes time, but the first path also takes years to master.
I would say, even if I am a Guru to a person, it will take him/her atleast 5 years to radiate energy. It is similar to learning a language to be fluent enough to understand the thoughts and feelings behind the spoken words.
For example, when an english speaking person utters a four letter word, it has an impact to another english speaking person. But, the word has less impact to someone who has never heard of such a word and speaks a different language.
That is for the starters, plus one has to feel in body and soul the reality in depth. To such a person, "The Celestine Prophecy" is just a warm up....
Yes,But essentially it would depend from person to person and how <i>"Open"</i> your Chakras are...etc...etc...

i would fear arguing with guru's and the like!
what if they levitate your balls into your throat?
please be careful
thanks

Empty Dragon 01-27-03, 05:06 PM Right. Tell a rookie basketball player to simply get the ball into the hoop and he'll make it to the NBA.
Though there are many who have gotten into the NBA before. So it is possible to learn form there techniques. My before question: I've always been curious about the Indian practices (blah, blah blah)
I play for the Nets and I am just curious about what the Bulls do. So in the spirits of the arts, I am proposing that we share our knowledge of our respective systems to better each others understanding.

ps: i wonder if i am confusing chinese with indian
pss: would you like to me to elaborate further or can you figure it out
that is a good one....he he he...ho ho ho...ha ha ha...
Empty Dragon 01-27-03, 05:53 PM Please elaborate then. I do not understand how this is an un-reasonable request?
Yo Dragon: I did not mean to laugh on your comment but spookz...it is just funny even though it may not have any relationship with what we are talking about....
first i shall entertain you with a poem!
I came home on Saturday night,
As drunk as I could be.
And there was a hat upon the rack,
Where my hat ought to be.
So I said to my wife, the curse of my life,
"Explain this thing to me,
Whose is that hat upon the rack,
Where my hat ought to be?"
"Oh, you're drunk you fool,
You silly old fool,
You're as drunk as a fuck can be,
That's not a hat upon the rack,
But a chamberpot you see."
and some stinky factoids
In public latrines, a communal bucket of salt water stood close by in which rested a long stick with a sponge tied to one end. The user would cleanse his person with the spongy end and return the stick to the water for the next one to use. The stick later evolved into the shape of a hockey stick, and the source for the expression "getting hold of the wrong end of the stick." It also provided an excellent medium for passing along bacteria and the assorted diseases they engendered. Running water for the latrine either was supplied by stone water tanks or else by an aqueduct…"
"Quite the contrary, in England and much of Europe during the industrial revolution, when so many people moved to the cities and into crowded and unsanitary living conditions, politeness dictated that people tossing waste out of their windows onto the street below were to shout, "Gardez L’eau" (literally "watch out for the water"). This saying remains a part of British vocabulary today in the use of the word "loo", slang for toilet'
I do not understand how this is an un-reasonable request?
neither do i, my good man, neither do i

grab container with water with right hand, position over ass crack

ps: how many times have i told you to wash your hands with soap
after crapping!!!!
Is this kinda "wax on...wax off" initiation?

Qiothus II 01-30-03, 12:23 AM Why do you need a religion? Find what you believe from searching all religions and if you believe in a higher power, don't limit yourself by categorizing everything as one teaching instructs. Simply be a keeper of the faith, whatever it may be.
UltiTruth 01-30-03, 12:23 AM Did you get your Guru and how much for? :D
Put the thread back in form and continue, Zero!
(psst: this is why a moderator was not favored! :) )
Whaaaat? I am not limiting myself by adhering to a particular teaching. Rather, I am drawing from the well of deep experience that people of a particularly ancient teaching can draw from. Trying something that's already been tested rigorously for results, I might say.
Shabad Guru, Surt Tun Chale...
Allow the "Sound" to be your Guru and your consciousness / attention to be the disciple.
With each and every breath, I dwell upon You; I shall never forget You.]
With each breath and morsel of food, do not forget the Guru, the Embodiment of Fulfillment]
I remember Him in meditation with every breath and morsel of food, with perfect faith. How could I forget Him from my mind.
In short, the Guru is Within YOU, all you need to do is to access it...
From the theory of Akashic Records and regular thinking mechanisms we might say that...yes...all the things lie within you...you can access the records(Akashic) and gain any amount of knowledge as far as i am concerned...
bye!
maharishi to john - "why are you leaving?'
john to maharishi - "if you are so cosmic, you should know!"
