How a hobby guitarplayer is a competition for you?
You must be pretty insecure to worry about such thing.
Those games are way better than a FPS game.
Rockband helps people to play together in a creative way.
Even family members can play together (different generations) without blasting each other away.

P.S.: Just because you suck at them it doesn't mean they are stupid! :)

I like playing guitar hero. I like playing the real guitar. They're not the same. Don't compare them. Only people who are insecure think that a video game has any bearing on real instrument playing. End of story.

In my experience, people who play guitar hero know that they can't really play the guitar. It's just a game, and everyone knows it. I think the only reason that whole stereotype exists is because there are a lot of arrogant guitarists that feel they have to assert their superiority over a certain group of unrelated people. The guitar hero players keep provoking the guitarists because they get enjoyment out of the response.

Imagine if the same thing happened with first-person shooters. You don't see all the ex-military folks rattling on about how many people they killed in real life, compared to some kid holding a joystick.

I'm no guitarist, I don't even own a guitar, but I'm still better than I am on Guitar Hero.

They are nothing alike.

Playing guitar and playing GH are nothing alike, but it's pretty shallow to say you hate the game just because you play guitar. Most people aren't playing GH to pretend they're some skilled guitarist, they play because it's fun.

I know a few good guitarists, and all of them play Guitar Hero or Rockband.

Guitar Hero is great. I don't get the same feeling like when playing for real, but it's good anyway! :)

Well that's good. Most kids don't appreciate the learning commitment required for a real instrument. They just want to play.

Well I plan on getting it for the kids this Christmas. I think it looks like a lot of fun.
It's not the same as playing the real guitar in the sense they like having their friends over and make a game out of the whole thing. I think our family will get a kick out of it because they love to compete and tell the other person that they SUCK lolol.

My hope is some kid that plays Guitar Hero, will discover his real talent, and start playing real guitar, and become the next Jimi Hendrix.

i play the drums in real life, and so does my daughter, but we also enjoy rock band and guitar hero

I would hope more kids are inspired by the game to play guitar...my worry is, many will be discouraged. Playing any stringed instrument is a difficult thing to master...much harder than pressing buttons. I worry kids who fancy themselves good guitar hero players will think this means they actually could play guitar, but when they actually try it, may "A.D.D. out" and not follow through.

my 9yrld son is learning the guitar because of his love for guitar hero, and he is doing well, he has been having lessons now for about 5 minths!!

But why don't you? I don't follow the reason you've already given. How is asking parents for Rock Band or Guitar Hero than asking parents for any other video game. It's not like kids think that they can automatically play guitar because they're good at the game -- but if it turns children onto an actual instrument afterwards, I can't see how that's bad.

It seems to me that guitar players are bad at GuitarHero (except my dad), while people who have never played a real guitar are excellent at the game (except me:))!
