Guests. At this moment there are 14 members online and 512 guests. What do guests do? Why are they here? Are they just observing our antics like Victorian visitors to bedlam? Perhaps they are watching sciforums as if it was a TV soap......... "Ooh Edna, come to the computer quickly that naughty Falseprimate is in trouble again"
That's not a nice name to call a guest! They should join. We can talk about oil and stuff. The rising price of replacement sensors. Things that would interest them.
Me too! They can just suck m...wait...better not say that. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
There are alot of search engine companies that create spiders that hunt down things on forums. For instance Yahoo doesn't have just one Asyncronous server devote to tracking down posts, but uses a number of servers. They do attempt to follow specific standards in regards to where the bots roam as obviously having hundreds of accesses is bandwidth intense. The point is, if a forum is small and empty the spiders move on, however if there is a lot of activity like pages being changed/edit/added too and removed the bot's go crazy. It's even possible that the bots feed their own need to spider, when one bot shows up as a guest another bot pulls in the page reading the guest exists (and therefore becomes a guest themselves etc)
