In case you're a great surfer, try Warcraft 3 and play the cutom maps. My friend and I got caught in the DotA (Defense of the Ancients) fever for a few weeks back ^_^

Guild Wars. I swear by this game.

Guild Wars is a great game. It's got a lot to do, a neat storyline and great cut-scenes. If you aren't into PvP, however the game gets old fairly quickly after you level out. http://www.guildwars.com

A Tale in the Desert is another mmo, but of a different variety. There is nothing to kill, you just run around building Egypt through civilizations with other citizens. Saga of Ryzom is a crafting based mmo that centres around building your character and community more than it focuses on fighting and equipment. It's interesting and weird, but that's what you get from the French.

I'm a pretty avid gamer, with a personally built PC that is built for heavy gaming, so if these games are graphic intense on older machines, I can't vouch for it.
