My brother needs a new graphics card to play the current games that are out, like Enter The Matrix, UT2K3, GTA 3, etc... What is the cheapest one he can get to play these games? He has 640 megs of RD RAM, an Asus motherboard, a Intel Pentium 4 processor, but only a GeForce 2 graphics card.

I recommend you ask at a shop which sells graphics cards.

Well, don't do that. They're simply tell you to get the most expensive one. You have two choices (doesnt it always come down to 2?

) ATI or Nvidia. These two companies have been battling for a while. ATI has the Radeon 9800 and Nvidia has the GeForce 4 Ti cards. Personally, I have a GeForce 4 Ti 4400. simply, I LOVE this card. I havent found anything it wont play yet. PLUS Nvidia has better support for Linux drivers. BUT, all the benchmarks say that the Radeon is faster. Overall, those are your two choices.

I do computer repair as a part time job

I recommend something under $200, go to newegg.com

ATI Radeon 9500 Pro128MB looks good better then my GF4 ti46 in fact. I have heard and seen the comparision and the 9500 provides the most power for its prices!

But I saw an asus geforce fx 5600 for under two hundred at pricewatch... it was I think the V9545 or soemthing like that, 128M DDR II, Vid in/out... bundled junk I think... I'm giving it consideration... ya think the radeon 9700 pro would be as good?

You don't need expensive card to play Enter the Matrix, UT2K3, GTA 3. In fact, I play GTA 3 at 1280x1024x32 on my gf3 ti 200 (oc to 500). So a $100 gf4 ti4200 64mb card and some over clocking you have got yourself some good bang for the buck.

The drivers for the SiS Xabre have REALLY matured. You can get your hands on a 128MB Xabre 400 for around $80 or so, $60 for a 64MB version.

I happen to have a Xabre 400 and YES, it competes with the Geforce 4MX, and easily can lock horns with a Radeon 9000 Pro. But, be sure to get the latest drivers. It makes ALL the difference.
