Hi, I am new to this fourm. I am a student and I have to do a report on the governmnet's survalence of people. Does anyone of sites where I could look up information on what the government does to moniter people. I have herd of some high tech stuff such as pointing a sound gun at a room window from far away and being able to hear the coversation inside through the glass. Information like that (or anything would help alot)

I would suggest googling whatever you're specifically looking for and putting the search in quotation marks.

    Very creative name, BTW, student.

You could search google for "Carnivore" (Chat minder) and "Magic Latern" (Keylogger)

    Welcome to sciforums, Student.

Here in Melbourne, almost the entire city is watched by cameras. They sit atop most buildings, in high glass domes atop street-poles, and of course in the shops and such. Very few places in the city are not covered.

In Australia, two of our intelligence agencies, ASIO and ASIS, have the right to hack any computer system in Australian territory and use the info gathered in any way they want, without a warrant. Even worse, since the attacks against the USA, they both now have the ability to grab anyone they say is a "suspected terrorist", hold them for interrogation for 48 hours without the presence of a lawyer, and if the person doesn't answer questions to their satisfaction the person can be tossed in jail for 5 years.

The company Visionics in Britain runs systems which monitor streets, checking all the faces the cameras see and matching them against known criminal faces. Any matches or close matches are reported by the computer to the police.

    Radar Flashlight

I'm torn between being amazed by the technology
and being terrified that the cops will actually have them.
But it kinda fit in this thread.

    Peace.
