Physicsforums is back up.. and it's actually pretty and fast now, too. This board is nothing but nonsense, and I have no reason to be here anymore. Goodbye.

View Full Version : Goodbye chroot 03-19-03, 01:36 PM Physicsforums is back up.. and it's actually pretty and fast now, too. This board is nothing but nonsense, and I have no reason to be here anymore. Goodbye. - Warren everneo 03-19-03, 01:51 PM Non-sense is omnipresent... sense too should be so. Beercules 03-19-03, 08:37 PM Well it's good to have you back at physicsforums, but this board still needs folks like you. Otherwise, the forums will become full time discussions about the ether and perpetual motion machines. James R 03-19-03, 09:53 PM chroot: This board is nothing but nonsense, and I have no reason to be here anymore. Well, thanks for letting us know, chroot. It's a good thing you're an engineer, because I doubt you'd make it as a diplomat. Thankyou for your input into the forum up to this point. I'm sure they'll give you a freer reign to insult people on Physicsforums, which is probably what you really want. 1119 03-20-03, 02:59 AM chroot, Too bad you decide to leave. You have a reservoir of knowledge that I'm sure many members would like to tap. I can understand why you prefer Physicsforum but I wish you hadn't made the comment about this board being "...nothing but nonsense". There are still members who find this place a good source of information. Anyway, I wish you all the best. Crisp 03-20-03, 03:33 AM See you around Warren! Cheers, Crisp lethe 03-20-03, 03:47 AM i have on several occasions posted threads here which i thought were interesting areas of modern physics, and i have several more planned. but i have found that these threads very quickly fall to the bottom of the pond, to make room for dozens of anti-relativity, philosophical, and other noninteresting threads. i have about a page of text written that i had intended for this board for an intro to differential forms (not finished), a staple of any physicist s education. i flatter myself that i can present even difficult material in such a way that even high school students might get their hooks in, but that might not be true. but i do like teaching what i know. but with the current atmosphere of the boards, it seems that the only kind of active discussions can be debates about the validity of relativity. i sort of doubt that posting a new thread about an advanced ugrad/beginning grad student physics/math student would anything but a waste of time. it is somewhat enjoyable to come here an educate people on high school level physics. that is how i first got involved. but if all i ever do here is rehash high school physics topics, the board can get boring for me. i believe this is the kind of thinking that chroot was going through when he decided to leave (chroot, feel free to correct me). this is what he meant when he called it nonsense. i must say, to some extent, i see his point. i like teaching people basic physics, but i also like talking about issues in modern physics and mathematics. it seems like only the former, and not the latter, is possible here. and that is somewhat discouraging. 1119 03-20-03, 04:22 AM I agree with you on all points, lethe. In my opinion, if a member enjoy teaching basic physics as well as talking about issues in advanced physics/math, it doesn't have to be a case of choosing one over the other. He or she could still do both by being member of both sites. In any case, I think chroot has his reasons for leaving. And I respect that. everneo 03-20-03, 05:14 AM Originally posted by 1119 In my opinion, if a member enjoy teaching basic physics as well as talking about issues in advanced physics/math, it doesn't have to be a case of choosing one over the other. Prosoothus 03-20-03, 08:37 AM lethe, i have on several occasions posted threads here which i thought were interesting areas of modern physics, and i have several more planned. but i have found that these threads very quickly fall to the bottom of the pond, to make room for dozens of anti-relativity, philosophical, and other noninteresting threads. If people agree with you, or they don't have the math knowledge to challenge your assumptions, then they won't reply to your thread. That is why your threads disappear quickly. I usually don't reply to your threads because the math you use is way over my head. Nevertheless, I do read them and try to understand. Note: By the way, I wouldn't consider anti-relativity uninteresting. :) Tom James R 03-20-03, 08:43 AM lethe, I would love to see a thread on differential forms. I've been wondering about them (in my spare time :)). Vortexx 03-20-03, 02:42 PM Looks like one of our most valued contributors has gone up in smoke, or should I say: gone up in ether? wesmorris 03-20-03, 02:53 PM But... but Warren! I mean, who's gonna shoot down the crackpots.. Dude, you'll be missed... please come back. :( Persol 03-20-03, 03:03 PM Stop back during duck hunting season. lethe 03-20-03, 03:13 PM Originally posted by James R lethe, I would love to see a thread on differential forms. OK spookz 03-20-03, 03:53 PM i noticed chroot at physicsforum ask greg if he was a pedophile in the pic thread! :D dont ever lose that winning personality of yours dog! everneo 03-20-03, 04:15 PM he was applauding and admonishing too an overenthusiastic kid to learn first & teach then..! he is fully settled and started settling others.. its a loss for sciforums..! |
