Good Wordpress hosting company

I'm after a cheap, decent web host which can do Wordpress. Unfortunately I have no idea about the good ones and I don't trust any of the Google results because this is the sort of area someone just bangs up their own page singing their praises when really they are rubbish.

Anyone got any recommendations? The Wordpress website recommends a few, which seem to get decent reviews. The rough price per month is about $8, this seem right? It's going to just be a personal website so low (to non-existent) traffic.

And what is wrong with the Wordpress itself? Isn't it for free? Does it has no specific features that you want?

I made mine at multiply since, I don't know, 3 years ago, and it works fine. Here is an example that I made for sciforums. It's for free and of course you can customize the layout (there are some clean and more formal templates).

Unless I'm misunderstanding isn't Wordpress a way of making webpages, not a hosting service itself? It says on their main page you find a host and then use Wordpress, I'm after a decent host.

DreamHost seems to have decent reviews and is pretty good price wise.

Yes, that was what I meant, Wordpress have free accounts, and if you register, the name of the site will be:
yourname.wordpress.com.

Here are a couple of examples of free Wordpress blogs (not mine):

Now that I think of it, maybe you didn't mean to make a blog, but another type of personal website. Or, maybe you would like to have a personal website with your own domain like www.yourname.com. In that case, I have no idea which one is good and within reasonable price.

Hostmonster.com is cheap and fast, is reliable most days and has cpanel. The domain name is free. But do find out if you can transfer that name if you decide to leave them.


@Kira, that's a very relevant area of research in our times. Recently some kids in the local Swedish high school had a visiting academic talk to them about this regarding bullying and posting things which may be funny now but are potentially embarrassing/destructive in a few years or decades ....This was prompted by a guy who hung himself on cam on a forum when he posted a status saying he would do it and someone casually said 'do it now then'...and he did.
