View Full Version : Gmail Bursts Out!
Check this out...
What's new on Gmail?
Just launched!
G is for growth
Storage is an important part of email, but that doesn't mean you should have to worry about it. To celebrate our one-year birthday, we're giving everyone one more gigabyte. But why stop the party there? Our plan is to continue growing your storage beyond 2GBs by giving you more space as we are able. We know that email will only become more important in people's lives, and we want Gmail to keep up with our users and their needs. From Gmail, you can expect more.
We're not in the plains anymore
Fonts, bullets and highlighting, oh my! Gmail now offers rich text formatting. And over 60 colors of the rainbow. Discover a land of more than just black and white. Learn more

Aborted_Fetus 04-01-05, 08:11 AM bob,
Log into your Gmail account, there's a New Features link on the top right.
I am continually impressed by Google's products. It seems like every time I log into my Gmail account, there are new features. Google is an amazing company, they have some excellent products. I can't wait for Google's web browser and IM client, both are in the making!
ummmmmmm ok *gasp*
wow..
I am waiting for increase in attachment size though...
bob-bobby 04-01-05, 09:06 AM aah. have checked it out , thanks for the info tho ..
i have 50 invites top give away  , anyone wants ??
Gondolin 04-01-05, 09:57 AM I noticed that I also had 50 invites. Confused me.
Closet Philosopher 04-01-05, 10:15 AM Cool, I love my Gmail account, I love it even more now!
Aborted_Fetus 04-01-05, 01:41 PM Yeah, I think they gave everyone invites...
Makes you wonder why they still require an invite system. I have 4 gmail accounts, 50 invites in each. I could never give all of those out. Wonder what those people are thinking now that bought Gmail invites on eBay a while back, LOL.
I was wondering about that...I logged on to my account and saw 1409mb, and then a minute later I saw 1415mb. Now (about 4 hours later) I see 1581mb of storage. I guess they're giving it to me gradually lol.
Oh, and I've had 50 invites for quite a while now, although I don't really have anyone left to invite.
Dreamwalker 04-01-05, 04:45 PM 100 invites...is someone in desperate need of 100gigs online storage space? :D
Aborted_Fetus 04-01-05, 05:48 PM 200GB* Dreamwalker ;)
I forget what it's called, but there's a Linux program that allows you to use your Gmail account like an personal storage account. Never tried it, but sounds pretty cool.
rGEMINI 04-01-05, 06:36 PM ... really i though it had a max on how much one email could contain =_
yeah, but how do you store your personal files on the GMAIL,the freaking attachment limit is still meagre 10MB
invert_nexus 04-01-05, 09:18 PM What I like about the new rich text format is the bold and italic options. The background color is kinda cool in that you can select a yellow background and it is like a highlighted note. There is also quotes which kinda suck (I wish they'd offer a forum style quote). List and indent which is so so. And indent which is worthless.
I also like that it's now being sent in html format so that the sentences are no longer butchered. I've always hated the short length of email lines. Now it goes all the way from one side of the text area to the other.
By the way, I don't know how long Yahoo has offered this, but they also offer bold and italic and other html formatting options.
Not sure if MSN does, though they'd better or they'll lose out.
I've had 50 invites for well over a month.
As to the new 2 gigs.... I won't hold my breath. It is April 1st and that countup seems to be on the verge of hitting 2 gigs at 12 Pacific time. It might be a joke. Why would they add the new storage space a little at a time like they are?
And. There is also a windows program called Gmail Drive (http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm) that simulates a hard drive with your gmail account. Yes. There is a 10 meg attachment limit, but all you have to do is use winzip or winrar or another archive program to zip and split the file into 10 meg chunks. It's kind of a pain in the ass. What they need to do is incorporate the file split and reintegration into the program. It'll add time to the processing for each file, but that's the way it goes. (I don't think it acts this way. It didn't last time I played with it. And I'm not sure if they plan on setting it up to do this or not.)
Yeah I love Gmail, the storage is so helpful for sending large files. It's there first birthday today i believe.
curioucity 04-03-05, 06:29 AM Lol, these are tempting me ^_^ But wait a sec, are you people really out of people to offer? Everyone must've been eager to get them ya know-
Speaking of which, how did the first Gmail account get created?
Yeah, I have some 50 to give away too..
I got mine many months ago from the previous b/f of my sister.
The first gmail accounts were given to Blogger.com users, which Google bought.
