Hi, im really new here. but i googled something for an english research report, and i found this place. anyway, I have to write an 6 to 8 page essay on how global warming affects algae. I am having a hard time finding anything and this seemed like an intelligent place,:p , so i decided to try it out.

There are a lot of different types of algae - some that can live in boiling water even, so global warming may favor some and disadvantage others (as it will for all life forms).

Algae may be farmed as it takes CO2 from atmosphere and can be harvested for both food and fuel. If farmed in the open ocean (with artificial stimulation - adding some iron, I think) it will make a big "bloom" and then die when the missing stimulus, that was limiting growth, is all used up. The dead algae, not eaten by small fish, falls to the bottom, gets covered by settlement and takes some Carbon out of the air for a long time (Oil for the next civilization to inhabit the Earth after humans are long gone.)

Once CO2 is in the air only via plants is it economical to remove it. Cars have been running on alcohol derived from sugar cane in Brazil for 30 years - part of the reason why Brazil is a net exporter of oil. There is growing push for "bio-diesel" and although I think it will come from much larger plants than algae, I could be wrong, in the long run. If Algae is to be a source of either alcohol or bio-diesel, IMHO, a lot of genetic modification will be required first.

anyways.. so.. wow, i thought my topic was somewhat narrowed down but well as i can see i was wrong. but ill talk to my professor and see if i can change to something more, condensed:confused: , i suppose.
