The media that I read like NewScientist, which is a UK publication, makes me think that man made global warming is a fact.
I exist in the USA and global warming doesnt. But of course I'm a neo-con sheeple who dont know nutin bout nutin. Not like that spidergout up there he a smart one readin that new fangled scientists uk publication. We from da USA dont read ta'll. We only read da comincs section. Dat marmaduke sure is a funny dog. Big too.
That's right, you're an anti-intellectual country bumpkin. Did you even vote in the poll? That's the thing above the posts with the buttons.
funkstar: No, it's interesting, since most of the anti-global warming opinions come from the US, which incidentally is not a party to the Kyoto Protocol, and which is also the world's biggest emitter of greenhouse gasses. It would be most convenient for the US if human-induced global warming turned out to be false. Which means that "research" originating in the US, especially if funded by special interest groups, should be regarded with care, and even suspicion in some cases.
It would be convenient for everyone if it turned out to be false. The only difference between USA and the rest of the world is that the USA don't admit it's existance
Ah, but, conversely, signatories that have already invested large sums in sustainable sources (wind/water power) have much to lose if it were to turn out that, say, CO2 emissions doesn't have as large an effect on global warming as feared, seeing as their expensive power is sold mainly on environmental grounds. Hence, their "research" (as you put it) should be regarded with equal suspicion.
The amounts invested so far in sustainable energy sources are paltry compared with the money tied up in the fossil fuel industry.
Global warming is certainly real, however man-made or man-influenced global warming is false. The scientific evidence behind the idea is on par with the amount of scientific evidence behind Jesus walking on water.
What about global warming on Mars? The polar ice caps on Mars are melting. Is this also caused by human activity? Or might it be part of a cycle related to solar activity? If human activities cause global warming, why did the average temperature drop from 1940 to 1975 or so to the point that enviromentalists were in an uproar about global COOLING leading to an iceage. The world does seem to be getting a little warmer right now. It did the same thing from 1880 to 1940. Did we cause that? There have been periods of warm and cold throughout earth's history. Even if global warming is a result of human activity, we're probably better off admitting there's nothing we can do about it and advise people living near the sea to consider relocating or building dikes. Among those who did sign the infamous Kyoto protocol, no one but Russia is meeting their goals. Why are they meeting them? Because their economy has imploded. That's the only real way to decrease emisions, destroy the economy.
