I wonder what people think of the paper. I can’t help but think that taking a gender view of war limits the complexity of who gets killed and who doesnt and how they are treated. With Genocide a person is killed because they are a member of a certain group, however with ‘gendercide’ I’m not convinced that the person is killed because they are male or female, rather because they are a certain type of male or female. Maybe my problem is just thinking in the traditional male female genders, and if they were opened up so would the concept of ‘gendercide’ i.e. gender as composed of sex, age ext…

I would tend to agree with you. The paper does explain itself: "The preceding discussion has sought to explore the utility of the "gendercide" framework, inclusively approached, across a broad range of historical and contemporary case-studies."
But in my view fails to establish any real basis for it.
