    Hello,

    Randi Hantak

This is a name of a guy, right?

Not necessarily, why do you want to know? Many girls spell their name that way also.

How would you adress that person in a formal letter?!

I'd first call them or their office to find out if they are a man or woman.

When you call you listen to their voice then just say you dialed the wrong number and hang up.

Actually it is not worth all that trouble...

I've just sent it. I said "dear Randi Hantak"...

Thanks for your concern, dear cosmictraveler

That is emerging as the proper convention when you don't know the gender. You did it right.

I would guess female. Women are more likely to spell their names in whimsical ways than men. The substitution of I for Y is very common.

It might also not even be an anglophone name. For all we know, "Randi Hantak" could be Azeri or Tibetan.
