That is emerging as the proper convention when you don't know the gender. You did it right. I would guess female. Women are more likely to spell their names in whimsical ways than men. The substitution of I for Y is very common. It might also not even be an anglophone name. For all we know, "Randi Hantak" could be Azeri or Tibetan.
