So, GeNdanken, while this site was down, I was browsing the net ... out of curiosity, wondering if there is a word like "geNdanken" -- and I found plenty! But this is *the* best -- it could be Gendy's anthem: DIE GEDANKEN SIND FREI (MY THOUGHTS ARE FREE) Words & music traditional; translated from the German by Arthur Kevess Die Gendanken sind frei, my thoughts freely flower Die Gendanken sind frei, my thoughts give me power No scholar can map them, no hunter can trap them No one can deny, die gendanken sind frei I think as I please & this gives me pleasure My conscience decrees, this right I must treasure My thoughts will not cater to duke or dictator No one can deny, die gendanken sing frei And should tyrants take me & throw me in prison My thoughts will burst free like blossoms in season Foundations will crumble & structures will tumble And free folk will cry "Die Gendanken sind frei" From: http://www.autodidactproject.org/other/thoughtsfree.html See also (use the search option): http://www.thesafetyvalve.com/archives/2003_03.html http://www.iidb.org/vbb/archive/index.php/t-91702 And plenty more! You are notorious, Gendanken!
Oh yes, there is so much info on Smegma on the net. Just look here for example: http://www.cirp.org/library/normal/wright1/ Warning, disturbing pictures. And, depending on your country probably mature content. Nonetheless, it is a serious site. http://www.circlist.com/anatterms/phimotic.html
Well, it is about "Gendanken" in a certain way... at least about her user former user title... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Anyway, I even find german sites that insert the "n" in Gedanken. (and some are even found on sites of commercial magazines and newspapers)
Yes! I was totally amazed to see German sites with that extra n in "Gedanken". I wonder why this happens. It could be a phonological reason: The word is made of three syllables, and the last two end in an n: ge-dan-ken. It could be that because of the strive to make a word well-sounding (wohlklingend), rhyming, all three syllables are unified, and thus end with a n. Also, another phonological principle may be at work here at the same time: g, d and k are stops. D is homorgan with n (that is, articulated the same way; to test it, hold your nose and say "nose" -- you should hear "dose"). Sometimes, sounds assimilate to be articulated easier, even additional sounds are inserted to make a certain sound group be articulated easier. [Here, Fraggle Rocker will have to jump in for English!] For example, a German word is written "kommt", but when spoken, it actually sounds like "kommpt". Anyway, that additional n could be the result of these two principles, working in tandem.
Might be, I do not think that it is a simple typo, for that, the distance between the keys is too big. But still, I am pretty sure that I never wrote Gedanken with an "n"... But then again, there are many people in Germany who have not yet mastered this language. (Considering the millions of immigrants and the idiots I went to school with I should not be surprised)

maybe I'm stupid but what does this have to do with anything? someone mentioned gendanken, is that it? If you have an issue with another user you might want to try PM'ing them or at least make some coherent point if your going to bother to start a thread. I guess I just don't understand the reason for this.
Well, this thread is about Gendanken, not necessarily as a member, just as a word. As Rosa pointed out, she just typed Gendanken into some search engine and looked at the results. Obviously, the word Gendanken is found pretty often, alas, the correct writing would be Gedanken. Anyway, Jubatus said that a search for he former user title "Smegma" might be more entertaining. I did that and well the links I gave are about... smegma. Which happens to be an excreta of the male genitals, this can lead to a serious infection on said organs. So yes, my links are about penis infections... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Ha! I could claim being a bloody genius knowing beforehand this song was out there. I could claim having neatly orchestrated a hybrid name of thought with gender, being female. I could claim all the strokes of brilliance in the book and lie to myself but truth is.....I fucked up in the spelling. Gedanken as opposed to Gendanken, reflecting my love affair with Einstein. Born almost exactly a hundred years apart.
