Sailors also used to believe that they are the souls of previous sailors who have dies at see and that's why they were seen as their 'freinds'. I can imagine sailors at sea being saved by dolphins and this is why the myth grew that sailors who fell overboard etc turned into dolphins the second they touched the water. I have. I heard (but this was on a television drama so it isn't fact but I heard that men who go for skinny women secretly have a "hankering for young boys". I don't know how on earth this was 'discovered' though. I suspect it's just an urban myth.
