Stryder 10-15-01, 02:42 PM So you have a computer, you probably do your work on it, splice video or music, copy things, program things... Even use your keyboard to eat your dinner off of (Most noticable when there are little bits of food trapped between the keys)
But one thing that the Computer has really seem to got the edge on is the Gamez. Without them your children won't have wel defined intellectual traits.
Anyway, the reason for this post is what GAMEZ out there in this world that we call home, do you find amuse you for many hours without becoming monotonously boring?
(that rules out Windows card games that regularly are seen lowering the efficency level of office staff.)
what game has taken you on some twister of a ride, where you just want to keep playing and wouldn't even notice if the house fell down around you? And which platform?
Barney_TRubble 10-16-01, 06:30 AM One that has held my attention for approximately two years (or more?) is Unreal tournament - a quake 3 like (but better :D ) first person shooter.
Now, the game itself would rapidly become boring if not for A : online play against other people, and B: organised comps and tournaments involving teams known generally as "clans" or "guilds".
Its like watching a football season unfold, only better because you're involved

Red Alert. And don't dis card games; I've spend many an hour playing freecell (albeit on Linux, which means it's not a Windows card game).
But when Red Alert came out, I spent about a week of bed/Redalert/bed/Redalert/bed, punctuated only occasionally by the sound of the coffee grinder.
Magenta 10-16-01, 07:14 PM Some of the Best Computer games include Quake 3 Arena, Half-Life , Counter Strike ( an addon for Half Life), Red Faction, and Diablo
No gaming conversation - here, there, anywhere - can be included without at least a passing reference to Starcraft. It was the first truly balanced real-time strategy game, and the world was never the same. Released in 1998 by Blizzard Entertainment, to this day, you can log onto Battle.net almost 4 years later and find more professional players online than any other game.
Stryder 10-16-01, 11:51 PM I have to admit I 've always been a bit of a sucker for macro-simulation games, but the problem is eventually after many many hours of playing, you build everything within the technology ladder.
This accounts for games like Simcity, Civilisation II, Alpha Centuri, Acendancy, even games like Constructor.
Admittedly Games I could never get the angle on were ones that involved a joypad and high speed precision button pressing (I have this theory that the taller you are, the longer it takes you to push the button, so your timing is always off... resulting in the annoying humilation of getting your butt whipped in Mortal Kombat, Tekken (add a number here) or even the old Street Fighter II.
Many a time has some young scruffy rascal of a kid whipped me into submission within the confines of an arcade. Okay at home you can take it.. it's the on lookers and the realisation that it's going to take an eternity of playing to get the little rapscallion back)
Such games as Quake, Half-life and all First person perspective shoot-em ups.... Well, it can get a bit annoying... Take for instance... the toilet in Goldeneye... don't you just hate it when you get shot.. reappear in the vent shaft, and everyone in the multiplayer makes a beeline for the toilet to stake your exit out.
I couldn't get enough of Grand theft Auto. Although GTA2 had some seriously tough red payphones to deal with... (It's a pitty my machine wasn't nicer or I would of got it on a PC platform to multiplay)
Command and Conquer/Red alert /My missing Tiberium Sun (and the add ons and most recent version) are by far the most played.
Although DARK REIGN II makes use of 3D, and you can change camera angles, and if your machine is at ultra high specs the graphics improve. I had some fun with this, it's far better than it's original Dark Reign counterpart.
DARK COLONY... This game is a few years old, but it's basically a bunch of marines is taking on a GREY alien invasion... and boy do the little suckers scream as you rip into them with a gun.
(feats blood splatters)
SYNDICATE/SYNDICATE: American Revolt/SYNDICATE WARS....
This is what I want to see get reborn once more, with yet more style.. The original Syndicate was written purely on the Amiga, and the Second began being written on the Amiga and halfway through they changed their mind and moved it to the PC.
I still love the way in Syndicate wars you can keep Guassing a spot on the map and make a serious dent and the use of the scope rifle always came up with satisfying results.
Commando's... Okay to begin with you pull on your hair... the enemies tend to spot you as you learn the tactics and your mens faces get skulled all too quickly.
GANGSTERS (Message me if you ever want a multiplayer :D) I think this game is brilliant... Build up a Mafia, control a section of city, run numbers rackets, and printers you place in the allyway a counterfitting operation, and if your really crafty you get to set up a cat house.
Not to mention the gun battles.. walking into enemy territory with 6 people and opening up with dual pistols and tommy guns, Watch out for the irish police though they tend to get a little upset when a few of their collegues get plugged in the crossfire.
If your really lucky, your extortion racket will last and you'll end up with the mayor on your payroll.
HITMAN: Codename 47
This was an ultimate in first person (I think MAX PAINE beats it now) Your allowed out of a funny farm.. after being taught how to handle yourself, and get ready for your new line of work.... Your the force behind dealing with problems.... covertly... and pretty much illegally.
Okay some might find sneaking behind a person and grotting them with pianowire some sort of kick, but stripping a dead man of his clothing and dragging him into a dark corner... that's almost queer.
DIABLO I/II
One is fun in a multiplayer, but II is suppose to be more fun... Pity my system has those BSOD (Blue Screens of Death) at Regular intervals... usually when I'm about to get a really decent item, or just killed a boss.
Porfiry 10-17-01, 12:46 AM Command&Conquer and Red Alert dominated my gaming life for a good 3-4 years. I still have fond memories of glorious battles of years past. Myth was also a very cool game that was about as strategic as video games got.
But, the best multiplayer strategy game I played was Total Annihilation. I only played a handful of multiplayer matches, but they were epic -- lasting hours each. The maps were HUGE, and it was very easy to ramp up production to insane levels. The result was an almost constant battle that would rage on. There were no decisive moments of victory as in Red Alert (which usually was decided by one skirmish), but rather a slow progression of wearing down the enemy while building up your production. In one game, two players teamed up (secretly) against one other. It still took a good 2 hours to defeat him -- but it was incredibly entertaining and perhaps the most memorable single match I've played).
Banshee 10-17-01, 12:35 PM Listen people, just listen.
My son, 14 years old, plays all games you mentioned.
But Unreal Tournament he plays most, with his clan.
He is on clan base www.clanbase.com
He tells me, to tell you, his clan is called Digital Titans.
And his nick name is Lock'n Load.
He is standing here, so that he is sure I am not saying something wrong here.
He is very good.
Challenge him, ICQ: 119030747
He says he is unbeatable in Unreal Tournament.
Come on, challenge him.
Please.
;) :p :p
daktaklakpak 10-17-01, 12:43 PM I have played all the games you guys mentioned. Some of them are really good. However, I think the only type of games that makes me ignore time is the massive multiplayer online roleplaying game(MMORPG), such as Asheron's Call.
Pollux V 10-18-01, 08:20 AM I sold unreal tournament for 10$ over ebay (crying eyes out), I want it baaaack. I played online once and got my ass kicked because of the lag, but I play broodwar all the time on the net every chance I get.
This guy dropped two heavy support vehicles into an expansion and wiped it out, ten minutes later I launched eight carriers n\into his main base, he quit.
Heh. Starcraft is AWSOME. Imperium Galactica 2 is cool too, but not for multiplayer. Ai is real good in that.
Banshee 10-18-01, 10:48 AM Pity you sold Unreal Tournament
My son is so good ( so he says himself ), you can not beat him...
;)
Well, sweet 14.
In stead of sweet 16, for the girls, you see.
Now he doesn't like me any more.
I have to hide, I am being hit by my kid....help!
I am running now, very hard, for my life...
Bye.:p
Pollux V 10-18-01, 03:58 PM That's one of the things I can't wait to do. Everyone around me just wants to have sex and neck. Of course I want to do that too, but also want to fall in love, have kids, make movies that are remembered four hundred years from now, campaign to be in congress (as a democrat of course) then be the greatest president the world has ever known, start a politcal house like the kennedies and the bush's only not have them be cursed or next to retarded...
Banshee 10-19-01, 03:08 AM Well Shrike, when you go for president I will be your campaine leader, ok..
:)
You are sure America will do better then, when you are a president?
What about the pollution and the neglecting of it by bush. You come in again and agree with it?
I think that is one of the most important questions, because America is world's greatest pollutioner.
What do you have to say, Mr. President Shrike?
I rest my case with this only question...
Lets see what your answer is.
Bye Mr. President.
Talk to you later...
;)
Pollux V 10-19-01, 06:33 AM I don't have a plan worked out just yet but I was thinking that I'd give money to companies trying to make solar power and alternative energy without any gasoline involved a large grant, like how Bush had given money to stem cell research, only I'd give more. I'd also discourage car companies from designing more suv's and fuel guzzling cars. Everything is finite. Including oil.
Banshee 10-19-01, 12:10 PM Yeah, a lot of smooth talk, like every presidents candidate...
But if you really mean it, then lets take you for president and dump bush now, today, somewhere in the bushes, haha.
Go for it Shrike, against pollution and for Earth. Go Shrike, go...
;)
Why shouldn't you be better then bush?
Bush is no good, pollutioner...
Hey Shrike, and all that bombing?
What about that?
You go on with that?
The civilization series has gotten me to spend many an hour and still they are fasinating.
Banshee 10-20-01, 03:07 AM Hello Happy Gamerz...
:)
Are you all afraid to play against a 14 year old?
Cowards!!!! All of you
Talk, talk, talk, like chicken in a ren...
Come on, challenge the kid, so at last I do not have to hear any more:
'I am the best player in U(nreal) T(ournament)..."
Please, take this young arrogant boy to fall, please.
He challenges you all.
Can't you read or really just to cowardish?
:p :p
He said it, I had to write it down. Now he asks every day if some one of you Gamerz, wants to play against him.
Come on...
Pollux V 10-20-01, 07:32 PM Does he have Brood War or Starcraft? After I'm finished with him he wouldn't know the difference between his bum and the large mark on one of his cheeks (from me kicking his ass).
Banshee 10-21-01, 04:49 AM Hey Shrike, thank you for taking the challenge from my 'arrogant' litttle boy. (he is a head taller then I am).
He does have Starcraft, the other game you mentioned, I can't find. I think he doesn't have it.
He is asleep now, but when he wakes up, I will be back here.
He can reply to you himself then.
My Mr. I'm the best, yeah, yeah...
Only 14, and a big mouth, unbelieveble
;)
Play with him Shrike and beat him, haha, nice.
Then I can laugh all day after he has lost, haha.
Yes, I know, I am a terrible mother, but I hope you will beat him.
He is used to UT, he doesn't play Starcraft often, so you can beat him, if you are good.
Because my son IS good, really, just a little to 'arrogant'.
Pollux V 10-21-01, 05:35 PM Don't worry bansh I'll beat some sense into him-it's the only way us chillins (teens) learn anything. I'm worried about the lag though. Coould be a problem.
Banshee 10-22-01, 02:43 AM Shrike, I like you so much.
Play the kid, come on.
We have to set a date, because your time shall be different from the time here. So we have to make an appointment when both of you are awake.
Oh, I like this so much.
My son thought no one would react. I told him you want to play against him and now he says 'I am better any way', so beat him...
He wins most of the time, really, from people on the net, last time he was playing to a 48 year old man, who plays for a long time already. But my son beat him, greatly. He IS good.
You be warned.
Lets set a date. Probably you sleep when we are awake. So lets find out about the time. And a day you are available.
My son is available all week, it is school vacation here.
So let us know...As soon as you can.
Hahaha, I will look, til the game is over and laugh.
At one of you.
Thank you for playing with him. Let me hear when you can make it.
By the way, a nice avatar you have.
Bye.:p
Pollux V 10-22-01, 02:30 PM We need to figure out the time offset. I'll be availible over the weekend on saturday or sunday, preferably in the morning but it makes no difference to me. I'm gonna start a new thread under free thoughts advertising a sciforums starcraft game, I'm not doing it here because free thoughts seems to get the most traffic among users. Maybe backslash will join in, I hear he plays a mean game of everything. I could ally with your kid.
I assume he doesnt speak english, but I'll post further details on that other thread under free thoughts.
Thanks for the comment, how about the title? It means: Judge of Science, and I think I got the wording right. Everything's backwards and a little to the left when it comes to latin.
Stryder 10-22-01, 03:09 PM I'm just mentioning my Mate and myself use to play through him dialing my computer up, He didn't own starcraft, but I owned a copy of starcarft and broodwar and I found that if I installed both on both machines, so the build was the same, I could use the Broodwar disk and he could use the normal starcraft disk.
I'm still waiting to get that disk back off of him because I can't install it on this machine without it. (Although I'm going to try something a bit later, by pulling it from the other machine through LAN)
----
I managed to get Starcraft to shift over from my other computer, of course I then had to transplant the registry (at least the ones related to starcraft and broodwar) All went well, I've got the sucker working.
This means I have Starcraft/Broodwar V 1.07 up and working, I probably could upgrade more, but I know that you have to have the same build.
Time offset is 7 hours to Central Time Zone.
Pollux V 10-24-01, 06:53 AM Does everyone see the time as GMT-it's the same time as it is here-EST, but it's posted at the bottom of the page on sciforums. Stryde there's a new version of starcraft our, v 1.08, you should check it out. Don't worry we still have a week and a half until the game.
Unreal tourney and quake3 omfg them games suck, like playing a poorly animated cartoon.
Quake2 is the daddy of all online games and to date is probably still the best multiplayer experience ever!
Its crown is challenged only by the forthcomming Return to castle wolfenstien, which in my opinion will be the online game of the year 2002.
Must be your crap hand eye co ordination as im 6ft 3" and i was undefeted at mortal combat 1/2/3 when i was at uni :).
Banshee 11-09-01, 08:53 AM Shrike, I want to apologize for the absence of my son last Saturday. The pc crashed and was out for more then a week, nearly 2 weeks I guess...
Sorry for not being there.
I hope you all have had a good time and that all went well.
Bye.
Pollux V 11-09-01, 10:16 AM no we kinda forgot about it.
Screw the whole idea.
Diablo 2 4ever mayan! That game is AWSOME.
Banshee 11-10-01, 09:49 AM My son has Diablo to yes, he likes it a lot.
But he is member of a clan who play against other clans, clan-wars, and at the moment it is Unreal Tournament what he is playing most of the time.
But I am a little glad to hear it didn't work out because I felt guilty to you and I could not contact you because the computer was crashed.
Have a lot of fun with Diablo, I have seen it yes. Perfect game for ' boys'.:p :p
Pollux V 11-11-01, 06:22 AM (sigh) :D
Banshee 11-11-01, 11:55 AM Is it that bad with your games?
You have to sigh about them?
Haha, you are funny.
Have fun with Diablo. Send it to Tony1, it has the right name to f**k him up a little more. (sorry, that was mean)
I may not say such things but it was tempting.
I just replied to him on the Religion thread, that is why I said it.
But you know how to understand what I write, so no harm done.
Have fun with your games and have a nice day.;) :p
Pollux V 11-11-01, 03:46 PM lol...no it's too good for him. I hate him too.
Tristan 11-13-01, 03:14 PM (Sniffle, Sniffle)
All i have been playing is Starcraft casue that is all i really have. Its not fair. I want Unreal tournament. I Need to get my comp alive again and decked out with kick ass games or I fear I may Die...... Anyone wanna contribute games to me?
Banshee 11-13-01, 11:33 PM Yes, my son plays Unreal Tournament all day long if he gets the chance.
In the weekends he plays til 6 in the morning, online, in clan-wars.
He is really 'addicted' to UT at the moment.
He even practises a lot because he wants to become the best sniper of his clan, haha.
Oh you boys and your games, cool.
Nice to see how it works and if he has a clan-war I may not talk to him, for he is busy with important business.
The best sniper, haha. Well, he can play very well, there are several other clans who want to have him.
But for now he stays with [digital Titans], [dT].:p
Tristan I hope you will have your other game(s) soon, it is fun to see how much pleasure my son has playing and I should want every boy to can play the games, just because they all like it so much.
And better play the games then be violent yourself.;)
Pollux V 11-15-01, 07:44 AM I used to have UT, but sold it after I got bored. Now that you've been mentioning it so much I want to buy it back, I sold it online for ten bucks. Sniping's fairly easy once you get used to it, your mouse just has to be very sensitive so you can move quickly and follow your target, but it's a hellofa lot more fun to be on the front lines and get down and dirty with your opponent with the rocket launcher or something.
I used to play Jedi Knight on the net but stopped because I got bored, I tried playing UT once but my connection was horrible and I couldn't kill ANYONE because of the lag...
I still play broodwar, I have a battle story. It was a 2v2v2 game, and my supposed-to-be ally didn't speak much english and decided he didn't want to be my ally early in the game. He attacked me with relatively 10 siege tanks, but lucky for me I had a few dark templars in the area and they tore his tanks apart before they fired a single shot. But, I lost the game since THREE seperate people attacked me on THREE seperate fronts, but I managed to fight them off for upwards of ten minutes before I knew that I was history.
That was FUNNN!
Banshee 11-15-01, 11:17 AM That is what I mean yes.
My son can tell that about his games the same way you do. I love it.:)
He is pretty good now, other clans constantly ask him to join them, but for now he stays with the digitalTitans. They don't want to loose him either because he is that good.
Nice to hear those stories about the games.:p
Enjoy playing them. And go for the winning end....
Haha. Beautifull, this, really.
Jay Renalsds 11-16-01, 11:15 PM Is diablo two really that good? I hear everquest was a lot better but never wanted to pay the monthly fees. I didn't think diablo two could be that good because it doesn't have monthly fees and its not that expensive. For that matter i only have a 56k connection so none of them would probably work out too well.
Banshee 11-17-01, 09:43 AM Well, not everybody likes the same games, so you have to find out for yourself.
Don't you have a friend or so who has Diablo?
Maybe you can rent it at a videostore where they rent movies too, or in the library.
In the Netherlands this is possible, but I don't know how that is in the US.
I wish you very much luck finding out and playing your games.;)
Stryder 11-17-01, 10:15 AM With something like Diablo II in Multiplayer (through a modem) it's not a problem having a 56k modem, the problems occur when you computer isn't good enough to run it properly (i.e. Blue screens of death because your AGP graphics memory conflicts with the memory windows wants to use)
Or the distance you are away from battlenet servers. (Or getting your version patched as high as everyone elses)
56k is fine.
I found that Diablo (the first one) worked fine also, sometimes a little bit of slow down here or there (usually when the map changes or you've just killed a boss etc)
I just wish I could get my system to run it properly rather than having to boot ever 10 mins :(
A game that I'm sure I've recommended before is Dark Reign 2 that uses 3D graphics to the fullest of your system, and depending on your system stats decides how detailed your game is (Image Command and Conquer but with three dimensional units, and a scene that you can zoom and rotate like Populous the Beginning.)
I did try to run Ultima Online: Third Dawn, but the load failed and the free month subscription got wasted (now I have a wasted program on a disk, don't bother buying)
A game I tried over the net that was also a monthly subscription was http://www.darkages.com you can play for 5 days as a trial (bewarned it lags if your too far away from the servers, and the trial has limited functions and places you can visit)
Another game that I've played and is currently approaching payment is http://www.runescape.com but the payments are necessary as the guy who has put together this Java landscape and interactive system purchased a bunch of servers to keep up with the population demand. (I'm sure it will be cheap when it does establish a fee)
Pollux V 11-17-01, 07:20 PM I never tried everquest for the same reason but I am considering it. Yeah Diablo 2 is awsome, you can get it retail for around thirty bucks. Five really different character classes with a bunch of different spells, loads of enemies to kill, it never gets old. I bought it a long time ago and am still playing it.
I'm not one for real massively multiplayer games, since they all cost money and my comp's becoming outdated. I need to get a new one, after that I will definitely buy Star Wars galaxies. That looks SOO awsome.
I had Dark Reign 2 for awhile but the a.i was so stupid! I liked it but starcraft and broodwar is so much better, you should try those stryde.
I want a PC version of RANARAMA anyone seen one?
The original version ran on the ZX Spectrum.
It was the only game that ever really kept my attention.
Cris,
How about a little detail on RANARAMA? What did you like or dislike? How was it set up? A shooter? (which I doubt) A build 'em up?
Stryder 11-18-01, 05:27 PM Cris you could try looking at http://www.theunderdogs.org for the game or search out the game name with "ABANDON WAREZ" written in the search.
(These are Games that are no longer sold in the shops, and the companies that created them seemingly have no outlets of old games. As far as most of the Warez sites involved with this are concerned you can download them as "Abandon warez" you don't pay because they are old.)
You might even want to checkgames out at the Shockwave website as they also have games like "RAMPAGE" you can play :D
Banshee 11-19-01, 01:36 PM What a nice thread to read this is.
So many members and all their games, really nice.:p
Stryder, good link you have given there. Thank you.;)
Pollux V 11-25-01, 11:29 AM I saw on TV somewhere (I think it was the show: Electric Playground) where they interviewed Will Farrel-from SNL, about his favorite video games. He said he liked Galaga and wanted to be in the first Galaga movie.
Anyway I just bought simcity 3000 unlimited, it's pretty cool. I'm waiting for Star Trek Armada 2 to get to my house.
Does anyone have a GameCube yet? I'm thinking about getting one. Which, of any of the newest consoles has the most *good* games and the best graphics? I've got a lot of money to burn, sooooo any suggestions would be nice.
Banshee 11-25-01, 12:48 PM Shrike, what is a GameCube?
How does it work? I really don't know it.
Can you explain please?;)
What about some non shooting games? Like you have the ones with Magic in it and you can make your own 'civilization', but then you can make either a good world or a bad world.
Can't find it right now, but I will get back to you with the name of the game....as soon as possible.
Hope i will not forget it...then please remind me.:p
Pollux V 11-26-01, 05:24 AM A GameCube is a console-like a computer, only a lot cheaper and just for games made by nintendo.
Do you mean Black and White? If your comp is a little below average (8mb 3d card, 64mb of RAM, celeron 433) you could probably run it, the game has great graphics and you play god. It's really fun for a few weeks, then you get bored of it but then later you want to play it again.
Simcity 3000 is a non-shooting game. You build a city and incite people to come to yours, amongst other things. It's quite fun.
hi shrike, I can tell you that to my mind the best platform for gaming is PC. it stays up to age, if you upgrade it and it has also got the widest choice of games. plus multiplayer on PC is better than on any other platform. if you yust can't live without a console I would sugggest you PS2. it lacks the graphics of x-box, but it has much more and better games, though msoft has promissed to fix tht. I don't know how about your country, but we here can get games for 2Ls - 1Ls=0.62$. So I have about 115 different games at home, but I love only about 10 of them.
My most favourite games- Deus-Ex, Final Fantasy and Age of EmpiresII.
I have put ADSL in my house so I am now looking for cool multiplayer games.
Bye!
Banshee 11-26-01, 02:19 PM Shrike, thank you for the explanation.
And yes, we do have Black and White, but I do mean another game, can't find it, guess he put it somewhere else. I keep on looking, for now I want to tell you the name of the game.;)
We have had Nintendo, but sold it. Now there are only PC games and a Dreamcaster. You know the Dreamcaster?
The games are pretty expensive, but my son play's on it when I am at the PC. He is really more then addicted to playing games. (big sigh)
He has a friend where he can burn the games he wants to have, a lot more cheap...
So once in a while he buy's a new game for the PC and/or the Dreamcaster. If it was up to him, he should buy a new game every day. Yeah, yeah...:)
Avatar, you can compare your number of games with the ones we have here....so you are pretty hooked to it also?;)

You could say so, but I am not hooked only to games. I am hooked in web design(flash), inet and taekwon-do too.
I have a question for you. Do you know if there is ability to buy pirate copies of games in your country, and if you know then how much. about ~3.2$ in Latvia. We had a discussion with friends on this and couldn't figure tht out.
.thanx.
Pollux V 11-27-01, 06:39 AM Yeah one of my friends said a PS2 would be good, the problem with me is that my parents don't seem to want to get a new computer with their money because I'm the only one that really uses it, but we do have plenty, my dad just won a lawsuit with this asswipe and got I think $2500.
I finally have a job, so maybe I'll save up for a good pc, I dunno, but if we got DSL here then i'd have to pay for it and it's fifty bucks EVERYWHERE. It just seems like too much, the system requirements change every six months and my pc has recently sunk below the minimum RAM and video RAM needed. I have a celeron 433, 64mb RAM, and an ATI 8mb video card.
It does the job but I could have SOO much better.
Banshee 11-27-01, 12:04 PM Avatar, my son does want to have certain games sometimes and if I don't have the money for it, or he just bought one a little while ago, he has to burn his games.
Most of the times one of his friends has that particular game (pirate-games also) and a burner, so he gets every game he wants that way....just burn them at his friends house.;)
That is real easy to do in the Netherlands. You don't have to pay for downloading games from the Internet also in the Netherlands. Guess the U.S. is very greedy there, they want you to pay for everything, even music, if you want to download particular songs....Ridiculous.
I don't know where Lavia is located exactly, but I think it is not that much, $3,2. Though it is much if you have to pay for it and don't have money of your own and have to ask for it by your parents every time. So what the games concerns and the way of getting them, I think you can live better in the Netherlands, you don't have to pay for downloading games there.
But I guess my son is lucky to have some friends whos fathers have a burner. So he can burn the games he wants.:)
Shrike, I have a Windows XP computer, really good that PC is.
But I have it for a very short time, it is a new one, because the last one (windows 98 upgraded) was crashed some weeks ago.;)
Try to be real nice to your parents. Perhaps they will buy you a new computer then. I don't understand why they don't buy you a new one if they do have the money for it. But I can't judge your parents for that, it is the way parents handle their money and their children. Are you the only one or do you have brothers/sisters also who want to have their things too??
Then it is a different case.
I always give my son whatever he wants if I have the money for it, because I think he has the right to have his own things, games and other stuff. Don't care so much about money after paying the bills and of course we have to eat and drink.
But what is left of the money I don't care so much about then. He gets a little money of his own too, every month. About $20 every month. And he has to use it well, believe me, it is not just like that.:)
Pollux V 11-28-01, 02:16 PM Well they say that I have to wait till early next year which isn't too far off, but my dad wants to make a big downpayment on a new car (his is a piece of sh*t). But I think that maybe soon, within a few years my family may ascend into the lower-upper class ranks, we're going to refinance the house and use THAT money to build a new one, and my mom is really good at being a fund raiser and she's in the process of getting a large raise.
But back to video games.
I'm going to look for the cheapest PS2 I can find right now. Looks like they go for about $300 at the least, I think I'll probably get a bundle with Metal Gear Solid 2. It'll be about a month before I can amass the money I need.
By the way, www.mysimon.com is an awsome shopping site.
And I still haven't gotten Armada 2! It isn't here yet! Arrr.
Banshee 11-28-01, 07:01 PM Shrike, I found that game I was telling you about. Its name is Half-Life..:)
Do you know this game? It is a nice game to look at, with Magic and Spells and you have to do a lot of crazy stuff to finish it.
I will not give you the exact details, for I think you can download it. Take a look at it....Real nice game, though my son is really to busy with his U(nreal T(ournament).;)
(big sigh!!) Wish he played another game so once in a while. Which he does, at his friends houses. Yeah, yeah, and I can look at that shooting game all the time. (bigger sigh!!):p
By the way, he has Armada 2 also, name 1 he doesn't have please. So I can come up with something new.
But then again, he wants to be the best sniper of his clan and he is pretty well succeeding in it.
Yeah, he is always playing that game. You' ll get better every day if you practise it that often as he does.
But he must come off the computer for his homework. First homework, and let he study it well, for I look after that. If not good enough, he can study some more. And when it is ok, then he can play his game again.:)
I do hope for you, that your parents will buy you another computer as soon as possible.
Talk to you later...have fun with your games.
shrike, the best of the new consoles graphic's and power wise is MS's Xbox, the reason this will be the best console is because its a new player in the market and as well as having all the independent developers title's you'll also find PC, sega and some playstation titles.
Nintendo's game cube will be ok but out of the 3 new super consoles its the one with the least amount of power and only nintendo titles, i think you'd have to be over addicted to zelda to want one of these.
Playstation2 is a good console it will be a match for the xbox but it wont have the same industry support, again get one of these if you're really into playstation originals tekken, grand turismo etc.
Pollux V 11-30-01, 06:57 AM Yeah that's what I thought benji-I'm probably just going to save as much money as possible for a comp, a PS2 sounds good but we REALLY need another one.
Banshee, what does your kid think of Armada 2? I've heard good reviews and bad reviews of it. I also have half life and beat it a few times, it is a fairly cool game. I haven't gotten my hands on any of the expansions but intend to.
I'm thinking now that if I get more than one hundred and fifty dollars for christmas money that I will buy a PS2 with my remaining money. Such a dilemna.
Banshee 11-30-01, 11:56 AM My son played Armada 2 for a while, but he ran into that ('stupid sniper game') U.T.
So that is what is of most importance to him from the time he laid hands on it.
But Armada 2 looks good to me. Try it out, you should have the possibility to download it, I shall ask him where exactly to look for it, because he has gone to Berlin with his schoolclass for a week and is not around at the moment.
I certainly wil get back to you with the link, for I know it is to be found at the Internet. I will try to find it, but am not that familiar with links to games.
Have you tried the link Stryderunknown gave in former replies here on the thread?:)
Talk to you soon with more information (I hope...). :)
Good luck by buying another computer.
Banshee 11-30-01, 12:00 PM Forgot to tell you he liked to play Armada pretty well, he liked the game very much. Guess you will like it also.
Don't tell you any more about the game, find it out yourself, for I am afraid I tell it wrong and you will get the wrong impression about the game.;)
Talk to you later...
Pollux V 12-02-01, 01:25 PM Great. I don't think I'd be able to download armada 2 off of stryde's site, it's for discontinued games and this one was released only a few week ago in the US. Thanks anyway, though.
And now for a new segment on this thread, shrike's game picks:
Simcity 3000-Nice graphics, addictive, fun to play and never gets boring. Also very cheap nowadays.
Jedi Knight-Graphics are out of date but the game will run well on anyone's computer, great story, fun to play, extremely cheap ($10), fun to play on the internet
That's all for now!
Stryder 12-02-01, 01:51 PM Recently I purchased for Playstation "Evil Dead: Hail to the king!" I started getting the hang of it but I stopped playing it for a while because I was naughty and cheated hehe
So I'm allowing time to forget how I cheated. The game itself is in a similar style of resident evil and has those really annoying directors view of the world you run though (you know the type, you get stuck in a corner you can't see and panic while trying to escape from it)
The games fun because your Ash and you have to kill all the Demon forces released by the enchanted Necronomicon. Make sure you collect enough fuel then you can power your chainsaw and make the demonic forces blood curdle as you slice and dice.
If your really craft you can learn how to use two hands, your chainsaw arm and another weapon to speed up your kill with a finishin move. While the beasty is stuck to your chainsaw, slice it's head off with the Axe.
I have "Fear Effect" also, this is also a game done in the Director style (Just my luck two games both done in that style that I really don't like) You get to race through some puzzles and shoot some enemies, pretty simple until you get stuck on a puzzle and have to find a walkthrough. worth playing but I recommend borrowing or hiring.
I'm going to have to get a PS2 so I can get "Grand Theft Auto III, as I have the others on the original PS.
It's great fun racing around a city, mowing down civillians and stealing cars, just to pick up a phone and do a job for the local crime syndicates. (especially in the second)
[I'm also lead to believe that a PS2 can play normal PS games on it.]
I too purchased SimCity 3000, I've had 2000 for years and had Simcity and many other of Maxis Sim products (including the sims)
One I like but haven't played in a while either was Tenchu 2, you get to play a ninja assassin and sneak around killing people from a stealth move from behind, it's well worth playing.
Banshee 12-02-01, 02:45 PM Shrike, Jedi Knights is a great game. Nice to look at also. Play it well and with joy my friend.;)
Stryder, it is a real pleasure to read your post. The way you describe it, great really.
Don't you like being hooked up in the corner and fight your way out again? It is so nice to look at.:)
The Grand Theft Auto game is a great game, you can kill every one who comes on your way, just like that.
Nice game to get rid of your feelings after a rotten day...
Guess every gamer cheats if he/she gets the chance...
Acerbus 12-02-01, 04:33 PM hehe..
playstation:
Parasite Eve 2(best ps game I think)
FF7 and 9
RE series except RE0 it sucked
Computer:
FallOut series, best games ever for computer
Star Craft
Day Of Defeat (hlmod)
FireArms(hlmod
Counter-Strike(hlmod)
I play alot of strategy and RE type games.
I still love playing chess against an actual human though(computers cheat!) :D
Pollux V 12-02-01, 05:00 PM Yeah I think comps cheat too, I dunno why or HOW but somehow the comps cheat. I love chess, but I never get a chance to play with people outside my family, and I can beat everyone except my dad, we had this great game together, I brought him to his knees but I made a huge mistake and LOST. If I play him again I will win.
Yeah the Half Life stuff is awsome.
I'm still debating in my head on whether or not to get a PS2. It probably won't be long before I've amassed the $300 for it, and I really wanna get Metal Gear Solid 2. I'm not much of a console gamer, I had an N64 for awhile but I sold it when it was still worth $100 :D.
Stryder 12-02-01, 05:09 PM Well I test drove the PS2 from what I saw, it does have extremely fast rendering, it even has a CPU cooler which is a first I think in Console design, so it cools itself down.
It can run PS games, DVD's and music CD's, not to mention the fact that you can even get a USB keyboard and program it.
(Of course I'm not sure to what depth you can program)
I was going to try and wait until January before buying one though, for the sales where it might be cheaper. Although I'll probably find it the same price and that I could of purchased it today.
Acerbus 12-02-01, 05:13 PM my brother bought a ps2 and it was haveing problems playing a few of his old games they wereing haveing bugs with sound and graphics in places and since he has a huge collection of ps games which he loves he took it back. I wouldnt mind haveing one for the dvd player on it. I wish i had someone at my school to play chess with:(
Banshee 12-03-01, 12:12 PM You know what, get a computer with Windows XP.
Games you can play, you can hook up a DVD and it plays Music also. (playing games with Music)
What do you want more...???;) :p
Oh, the computer cheats, yeah, yeah. You have to practise more you mean. I know this 'cheating' of the computer. Always the same with you boys, if you can't win the game, the computer 'cheats', hahaha.:)
Computer cheat???
More accurately, the program allows it to cheat. There are aways ways to load the AI at the start so that it is more challenging. Extra men at the start, extra moves, quicker build time, easier resource gathering, ect. Basically the rules are not the same for the computer as for the player.
Red Alert 2 is my favorite at the moment. The gameplay it offers rivals (but not quite beats) the original C&C. In short, this time around a nuke actually blows stuff up and a hovercraft can't fit the same amount of tanks as infantry!
If you're into graphics, Freespace 2 is a very good bet (if you like space combat sims). It's a couple years old now, but the graphics are still almost top of the line (3d card required to play).
And of course, my all time favorite, Outpost 2. This game is about 5 or 6 years old and still a lot more fun to play than most new games (multiplayer mind you, the single player mode could bore you to death right into your afterlife). Sadly, after this much time the most people you see on at a time is about 18 or so and falling. All I can do is hope for Outpost 3.
Pollux V 12-04-01, 07:59 AM I liked RA2 for a little while, but the graphics are so far behind (starcraft's graphics are better and that game was made years ago), and the a.i is so retarded. When I buy a strategy game I look for good a.i
Imperium Galactica 2, folks, the best A.I in a strategy game I've ever seen. I bet you could get it off of ebay for under twenty bucks. Beautiful game, beautiful graphics, fun to play, addictive, and great a.i. My comp is a celeron 433, windows 98, 8mb video card, and 64mb RAM and it worked fine. I highly recommend it.
Star Trek Armada 2 should be here any day now. It turned out that my mom, two weeks ago, forgot to press the final "buy" button on amazon.com. Gee wizzzums!
Banshee 12-04-01, 01:35 PM Red Alert is a some what older game now, so it is just logical that the graphics are less then the newer games.:)
Still a nice game to look at it is...
Wish you all luck with your 'fights' in Space...Go Get Them!!!;)
Jay Renalsds 12-05-01, 08:48 PM I haven't ever met an A.I. for a strategy game that wasn't retarded. Even in starcraft the A.I. was never really a challenge. After so many levels (somewhere between 7-10) your pretty much doing the same thing over and over.
Stryder 12-05-01, 10:34 PM Just a hint for Starcraft Multiplayer against multiple AI's
(Just to prove how stupid they really are)
If you are fighting against the Zerg the AI tends to attack before you've built up your base (As Protos or Terran) if your not careful your game usually ends up being cut real short.
Two methods needed to defeat the AI:
1: don't bother with turrets, concentrate on troops. (Mostly with Protos, with Terran Bunker them) When you get your troops up and eventually need to move them, if you've spent on mobile troops you don't have to worry about having to find more resources because you spent out on Turret defences.
2: When the first attack occurs (before you have a decent enough defence) get the attention of the attacking Zerg with your SCV's or Probes and then click your SCV's/Probes to run across the map to the other side or corner. This will allow you to see the map, get the horrid zerglings to be distracted to follow your unarmed troops and allow you the chance to rebuild/fix your base and get some troops up by the time the zerglings catch up with your unarmed units.
This has allowed many multiplayers to take place without being lost within the first 5 minutes.
Pollux V 12-06-01, 07:34 AM have you guys gotten the latest patch? Blizzard fixed up the a.i a bit, it's a lil more tougher now. I still like the game, but I'm playing STAR TREK: ARMADA 2 now!! Ha ha ha aha. I haven't been playing it long enough to give it an accurate review, though, so I'll keep everyone here posted.
Also, if you get a chance and you happen to be a trekkie then see if you can get Star Fleet Command 2: Orion Pirates. That game is awsome, I've had it for months!
Banshee 12-06-01, 12:05 PM Shrike, have you been looking at my son's computer? How did you do that?
He was playing Starfleet Command 2: Orion Pirates, yesterday evening. For a change. A very nice change I have to admit.
He has a burner now and is burning every game he can lay his hands on.
Tell me how you knew that.;) Can you look at someone elses computer?
Amazing...
Stryder, I love to read your posts, really, nice stories how you play your games...:)
ST: Armada 1 was really dissapointing. But oh well, I won it for free at flipside.com so it really doesn't matter =P
Pollux V 12-07-01, 06:48 AM HE PLAYS ORION PIRATES???? HOLY MOTHERF*CKER!!!
That's wierd. We're like, exactly the same. Maybe he's my dopplganger. Wouldn't that be something.
I think at the moment my favorite race is the Federation, and I do like ST-Armada 2 but I'd have to say that I prefer Orion Pirates. My only problem with that game is the loading! Oi vey, nothing but loading!
Banshee 12-07-01, 02:21 PM Shrike, perhaps my son and you should have a chat at the ICQ or MSN. He has both. ICQ changes when I am at the computer, but most of the time he is.;) You can talk about all the games then...
Try Might and Magic, nice game with the most ugly and unimagineable creatures in it. And you have to fight them all, in the fog, rain and sun. And then you have to take care of all other 'things' also.
Guess you know it, it is an older game, but man, what creatures and what 'stupid' rules are in it. Good laugh with that one. :p :)
MuliBoy 12-09-01, 06:01 PM Unreal tournament and the Strikeforce mod is my preferred timewaster.
Deus-Ex was also spinning constantly for awhile. Then thereīs Civilization too...
But these days itīs my PS2 that delivers all the thrills I crave.
I havenīt been so excited by gaming since I got my AtariVCS in ī82 :)
(and Iīve had every major console since then... Even have a AmigaCD32 in the closet:D)
BTW, Linux is on the way for PS2
Banshee 12-10-01, 10:45 AM MuliBoy,...Civilization???
That game I know well. Have seen it enough to think of it as a real 'silly' game, with all the building and doing in a just upcoming Civilization.;)
With the flickering figure on a horse which keeps on flickering all the time if you walk away from it. Yeah, that I have seen for a while...
Hope you make a good Civilization out of it.:p
Stryder 12-10-01, 08:17 PM A game I recently purchased and well at present I'm kind of playing is for the PlayStation (yes the original)
C-12
I suppose you could look at this game with similar thoughts of Soul Reaver since you begin with a Blade that you can quite happily hack and slash enemy drones. So far through the game I've managed to pick up the C-12 cannon and found it quite impressive to crouch and then use an accuracy shot (Where you look through the eyes of your cybernetically enhanced Soldier Vaughan) and pick of the enemy with 1-hit headshot kills.
The game itself seems to utilise a third-person perspective that follows Vaughans movements, until you decide of course to use the targetting of first person.
There are many other points like moving boxes around and clambering on top of them, you also have the ability to go to first person perspective and target something to gain information from your implants. The missions expand as you do them with constant information being inputted through a radio communication from command.
I know it's going to keep me busy for a while... Well until I decide the controller might get damaged through a "Not again, I got killed and they never put Continues up, just game overs".
Pollux V 12-11-01, 06:34 AM I can't wait to get my ps2, I'll definitely have it after christmas once I've amassed all of my birthday money (the amount everyone gives me won't be $300, I'm not THAT spoiled).
What do you mean muliboy that linux is on the way for ps2??
MuliBoy 12-11-01, 12:25 PM Well itīs been released in Japan with the harddrive, Linux for PS2 (or itīs being released soon). I am not the demographic consumer for that product so I donīt know much about it really.... I bought it for the games :)
Bad experiences with civilization, Banshee? Actually itīs civII Iīve been playing and itīs pretty addictive... but itīs out of my system now, since Iīm not up for strategy sessions online. Then Iīm all for FPS gaming :)
Banshee 12-12-01, 10:42 AM No bad experieces wit Civilization. I just got crazy of that flickering figure all the time when the gamer went to get something to drink or so and left the game on, flickering and all.:)
Are you going to play online? Go to www.clanbase.com and look for a nice clan. Then you can play against my gamer son. He is listed there under UT.;)
Guess it is not really what you are looking for, but you never know...
Shrike, I hope it works out with your new computer.:)
Pollux V 12-12-01, 02:22 PM thank you, thank you.
Banshee have you been at free thoughts lately? I've posted a drawing contest and you're not involved! Get yer noodle over there.
I hope it goes well with my new comp too. I've decided that if somehow I have more than $400 by christmas that I'll 'go all the way' to save up for a computer.
If not then it's a ps2 for me:D
Banshee 12-13-01, 10:58 AM Shrike, I will be at your drawing contest. Don't do a thing without me please. Wait for me...:)
I will go there and post why I haven't been in there yet.
Wish you all the luck with your computer and games.;)
Pollux V 12-17-01, 07:05 AM hey, banshee, does your son have any cheats for armada 2?
I can't get past the ninth level, I have to find all of the borg and I do and I cover the whole map with scouts (I can see EVERYTHING) and I am totally sure that nothing is there. I've searched the net and there are no cheats whatsoever for armada 2.
Does anyone else have the game? Has anyone gotten past the ninth level?
Banshee 12-17-01, 01:20 PM My son played the game out...:) I'll ask him how to pass the ninth level as soon as I can and come back to you.
Talk to you later.;)
[modern warrior]
I'm on a mission in a hostile land;
I see the danger on every turn,
And wait to hear the shot,
Saying me: I'm lost.
Have no time to pray or fear,
I just hope I have enough of luck,
And crawl through the mud and rock,
Hoping there's no quicksand.
I see a sign in a foreign tongue,
And hope it's not saying what I think it should,
Or else I'll taste the smell death,
Cause I think it says: DANGER MINES!
I smile when my hearth says: run,
I'm in a jungle, there's nowhere to run,
I must complete my mission of the day,
Or else there'll be no other one.
And one more thing I forgot to add-
I have a secret weapon in my bag,
It's called LOAD AND SAVE,
Just hope it works, or else
\Avatar\
Pollux V 12-20-01, 06:48 AM lol...nice, avatar.
Red Devil 12-22-01, 06:21 PM What do I like to play that I can play over and over and over and ... well!
1. Silent Hunter - but not anymore, its a dos game primarily and cant get it to run now. (PS got it going now in Me)
2. Unreal and Unreal Mission Pack 1
3. Quake 2
4. 688 Attack Sub
5. Blade Runner
6. Star Trek Elite Force
7. Klingon Honor Guard
8. Half Life (well, when I am ready for it - loaded but unused)
9. Return to Castle Wolfenstein (on 3rd complete run)
10. Hangman with Tony1 !!!
These are not in any particular order by the way.
OUTPOST 2!!!
We need more players on OP2!!
Banshee 01-03-02, 11:57 AM Pollux V, no cheats on Armada 2.:) Just be quick and play the game out.
And my beloved son doesn't want to look at it because he is preparing to be the best sniper of the Netherlands in UT. He is in the top 5 with it right now. So he won't let go of that game at the moment and I don't see a change in it for the near future.;)
Good luck with your games, you all.
Real nice poem Avatar...:)
Stryder 01-05-02, 10:05 PM Pollux V,
If your still playing Diablo II, I've just started on Battlenet using a Barbarian I was halfway thru the game (So I open up chapter II straight away). I'm on the account of Stryderunknown and I'm sure you'll find me @Europe in the Realms listing...
I'm just looking for a few Gamers around lvl 21/22 to Clan with ;)
Red Devil 01-06-02, 06:48 AM Just finished RTCW for the 3rd time - it does not get any easier!! Even when you think you can remember where all the nasty nazi's are. My favourite level is when you have to sneak through Paderborn without tripping the alarm, taking out 5 officers and then getting into the schloss! You can only use silenced weapons (sten gun and sniper rifle with night sight). There are 23 levels. The Dam level is pretty good too.
Pollux V 01-06-02, 10:15 AM Stryde I still have Diablo 2 but I don't play it on the net. It's too laggy. YOU HAVE to get broodwar and starcraft. Those are the two best strategy games to play online ever. Even in skirmish mode the computers can kick yer ass.
In single player I have a necromancer, level 28 going through act 1 on nightmare.
Red Devil I'd get return to castle wolfenstein if I could but my pc doesnt have the specs. You should get No One Lives Forever. That is a greaaaat shooter. I bought it a year ago and I'm still playing it.
I LOVE No One Lives Forever.
great game.
But onfortunately I gave it to my friend, but he didn't tell me tht he had SONY 52X. Everyone nows tht tht shit breaks CD's.
BREAKS. now I have to look for another copy. Do you know how HARD in Latvia is to find a game tht is older thn 6 months.
Everybody has bought it and almost the only place I could find it, is in legal shops, where it could cost for about 40$.
I'm playing Max Payne now. GREAT, REALLY GREAT game.
my pc is a little slow for it, but tuesday or in worst case friday tht'll be different;)
Wizardry 8 is also very nice. Old school RPG/adventure
Can someone tell me cheats for POP3D?i have tried console cheats but they wont work...i updated the game with the patch changed the shrtcut and then nothing it said illegal shortcut or something...
bye!
OOPs sorry about short form...
Prince of Persia 3D
bye!
Pollux V 01-07-02, 05:27 PM I wish I could play Max Payne, but my pc's only got 64 megs of RAM. NOLF plays okay but it'll abruptly freeze up every once in awhile and let me tell you that really, really sux. Sorry I've never heard of POP3d.
Avatar where is latvia anyway? I'm a geography expert-guy and I'm wacking myself (yes I said that on purpose to sound funny and stupid) because I have no idea where it is. Also did my description of what Pollux V was help you out when you emailed me a week r two ago?
Stryder 01-07-02, 06:22 PM Not to jump Avatar from telling you where Latvia is, it has a shoreline with the Baltic sea (the sea that stretches around Finland and Sweden) of course Latvia is on the otherside of it.
I've found a map that you can zoom out from to see.
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/mapshells/europe/latvia/latvia.htm
Pollux V 01-08-02, 06:32 AM oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oh
there it is.
Hey, now you know where latvia is:) Shrike...........sorry Pollux V.
Haven't got used to your new name yet. Why did you change it?
and yes I know what it means.
BTW, on inet I'm also known as mythago, rain warrior, sniper, sol, solarian and el_mariachi.
Bye!
Pollux V 01-08-02, 09:58 AM Why did I change my name-because, that's why.
Avatar, have you ever played imperium galactica 2? Has anyone?
IG2 is one of my wery favorite games also.
I have gone through all campaigns,
but multiplier stinks, in online battles there is only calculated your strenght and wins tht who has the larges army, but where's my strategical thinking input?:D
have to go now, training->
I'm late already
Bye!->->->->->->->->->->->->->->->->->->->->->->
Pollux V 01-08-02, 10:10 AM yeah multiplayer wasn't too hot but the a.i in skirmish mode is awsome! The campaign is nice but skirmish is soooo much better. The scenarios weren't too great.
The bad thing is that I sold that game months ago. WAAaaaa, I waaant it baaaaaaaaaaack!
Can anyone suggest a good mmorpg[massive multiplier online role playing game-for those who do not know].
I wana play one, only have no bank account and thus I'm seeking for a free one i.e. don't have to pay for online playing[you know one month=$$$]
Stryder 01-08-02, 06:29 PM Avatar
Presently www.RUNESCAPE.com is verging on moving from BETA, the question remains will it become a pay or just left play....
Anyway, you don't have to download too much, it's written in JAVA and JAVA 3D. (I've got a character on it, I left it for a while and when I come back I found that the requirements for the sword I possessed moved up, soI can't use it now :( )
There is one where you can get a 5 day trial, with limits of how high you can increase your character, that's at www.darkages.com, but after 5 days you'd have to pay (you don't have to produce cards to trial it) but it is about 25Mb download.
(I did once have a go on it for a month, and managed to get a lvl 47 Warrior. which I'm sure would take some beating, as lvls get more an more difficult to accumilate). There is a lag factor for it though... Nasty lag causes a character to try and walk through a wall etc.
After running a few checks, I'm going through a site called www.mpogd.com .
How about www.ogreisland.com
I'm sure there is more out there (these are mostly Java or Flash though and in Beta)
Pollux V 01-09-02, 06:30 AM I thought the same as you, avatar, that I wouldn't pay for mmorpg's but as soon as I get my new comp I'll probably get-MAYBE-world war 2 online-which has been patched nicely according to a few magazines (PC GAMER) and get Star Wars Galaxies.
In my opinion the best online game out there is Starcraft: Broodwar.
Who else has any suggestions?
Stagedy games. I abhor FPS, as those games include nothing that is needed in this world.
I like games like Civilization III, Alpha Centauri/Alien Crossfire, Outpost (which is not played anymore).
To define a role like in FPS that are totally disregarding of having a real civilization are like having no brains or minds.
Master of Orion III will be a good, fun, game.
And XCOM brought back as UFO:Defense is just fun as some kind of game while leaning more towards a type of FPS, probably will include different elements in it that include the real world counterparts, -- research, money, subject matter.
The rest of FPS are a waste of money.
Stryder 01-10-02, 12:44 PM well I have to admit I've played a few FPS (First Person Shooter) games, but admittedly you do have a point Raion.
Afterall it's a bunch of gunplay, and killing people and lacking the necessary diplomacy that Alpha Centuri and others happen to carry across.
Of course as long as the FPS exist, then there should be some clue as to which ones are worth playing. (Afterall some actually put puzzles into the game, and you might even Term LARA CROFT as one of these)
I played one recently on a friends PS2 called RED FACTION, a kind of Beaten and dying miner fighting against the establishment that has tortured his comrads.
It had more of a plot in comparison to Hitman Codename: 47, which is pretty nasty, since your not saving the world from a evil and most definitely hostile alien race, but are out knocking of people with a sniper rifle, or creeping up on them when they are in the shower and grotting them.
Personally I want more STS (Space Trading Sims) flying to distant worlds to hack into a blackmarket mainframe, and sell the guns you stashed under the toilet on deck 3A of your Plasma driven X-Alpha1 Cargo jet craft.
(don't forget paying that UCROE [Universal Craft repairs of Exagile IV] insurance, that way if you break down or get shipwrecked in a lifepod you'll get picked up.)
Pollux V 01-11-02, 06:25 AM Sure, strategy games really are for more thinking than mindless shooting, they're just like an updated version of Chess. However FPS shooters do lack the brains of strategy but definitely not the fun. Lets face it: Wouldn't you rather be fighting of hordes of the nefarious zerg yourself rather than ordering hundreds of men into battle? It's even a tough decision if this applied to real life: would you rather throw your own life away rather than dozens or even hundreds of lives?
Both are fun, but FPS is more engaging and gives you a better chance to immerse yourself in any world. I really look forward to Jedi Knight 2, as I am the happy owner of Jedi Knight and I can tell you that it is one fun game.
Stryder 01-11-02, 02:02 PM I have to admit, once upon a time... when PS GTA 2 had just been released I was posting ideas on a bulletin board at somewhere on GTA 2 about what should be made of GTA3....
Funnily enough :D it seems they come up with something that is similar to what I thought, although they did cut out the copter shot that I said they could have still kept but that would of caused module loads back and forth when you moved from first person to chopper 3rd person.
I've given it ago, admittedly it's tough to get use to, but it's worth playing.
(If you make it to the docks on the first level and find a jump that goes over a bunch of lorry trailers, go steal a bus from the bus station and jump that for a UNUSUAL BONUS!)
I'm waiting for GTA3 PC version.
Got no PS2, I don't like consoles.
Stryder 01-11-02, 02:36 PM I'm waiting too Avatar.
I'm guessing the reason for a time delay between releasing on and then the other is because PS2 programming is suppose to be pretty tough, and is going to be difficult to convert across to a differing format. This was and still is the major problem with CROSS PLATFORM source coding.
(As a company that creates a game, now has to create one in a language destined for a PC, and then recreate the game from scratch for the PS2 etc.)
Of course if there is anyone out there creating Games that need to be moved between platforms, your best writing modular and then saving you "example modules" for both systems. Those modules can then be reused, just like how some developers just change a few graphics here and there and a few calcs and create a whole new "Clone" game.
I hope that a PC version of GTA3 will incorporate the MULTIPLAYER that GTA2 on PC incorporated (as I liked that notion)
Although there are going to be a bunch of action a persons got to do, and a PC version will probably require them to decide if a person should run round using keys, or a point and click of a mouse.
I don't think piont-and-click is an option here. Yust think- you're in a middle of a gun fight and need to run for cover at the same time shootin at cops. What I want to say, how can you shoot with a mouse and at the same time order movement function.
piont-and-click is good for walk/explore/adventure games not action. A game like you describe was Vampire - the masquarade redemtion. It was a good game one of my favourates of the story, but the fighting in it was kinda lame.
See Ya!
I have found a great upcoming mmorpg. |Neocron|
check it out @ NEOCRON (http://www.neocron.com/index.php)
Pollux V 01-12-02, 08:28 AM It looks cool but I'll wait for the review before I head out and buy it. MMORPG's have a history of bad games like Anarchy Online, and that also looked awsome. We'll have to see what happens.
while waiting for NEOCRON, you[especially Zion] should check this game. It's called UPLINK. it is a hacking symulation game. Quite good.
For information on Uplink, visit www.introversion.co.uk
A cracked version[have no bank acount, so had to download it, but if I had one I think tht I would buy it, its worth it] can be downloaded via KaZaA
Pollux V 01-12-02, 04:31 PM Does anyone know anyone who plays everquest? What's it like and is it worth the ten bucks a month? And what exactly is turn-based combat?
I'm not very experienced with rpg's, as the only one I've ever bought is Diablo 2.
(oh and by the way my necromancer, Sir Gerensino, has advanced to lvl 28 and can take down ANY opponent in act 2)
Mr_Japio 01-15-02, 06:46 AM My choice of classic, never-dying gamez:
1. Privateer: Loved this one, on my 386 sx16 mhz :D Get your joystick ready and try to earn some money in this space-flying sim with a reasonably good story-line. Or go evil and become a pirate... Privateer II is good too, except in Priv I you had a choice to follow the storyline or not. If you wanted a good ship in Priv II you just had to follow the line... the money you earn was extremely good.
2. X-com : from the first " enemy unknown " to the last (of the strategy x-com's) " Apocalypse" X-com takes you into a world where aliens have landed, and they're here to conquer human-kind. And you're the head of an elite organization which is created to stop these foul aliens ;) Build your bases, intercept UFO's, capture aliens and research their technology to build better equipment. Ultimate goal: erradicate all evil :) I just love those games :p
3. Falcon 4.0: I work with the F-16 myself and can tell you: It's the best simulation you'll ever find. Graphics are going on to be outdated but still, if set on 100% realism, you really get nervous when on an approach and your engine flames out ;)
Pollux V 01-15-02, 09:53 AM where ya been, mista japio?
Mr_Japio 01-15-02, 10:19 AM I said: classic games....
Nowadays, UT, Commandos 2 and Ghost Recon take up much of my gaming time....
Pollux V 01-18-02, 11:06 AM THAT DOESNT ANSWER MY QUESTION!!!
I'm about to start playing a pirated version of red faction! Oh no! The feds are coming for me now! The suits are walking down the hallways, opening the door-asking the froglike teacher where I am. They both look right at me when she points. I duck and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!
don't sweat. I have 3 licensed games and ~115 unlicensed ones.
Don' t talkin' about different expensive progs and movies.
be cool
Pollux V 01-18-02, 11:25 AM (WE ARE WATCHING YOU)
Avatar check out my website on the link of my quote, cut and paste let me know if it works.
Now back to video games.
(yeah, and I' m watching them)
smth wrong with tht site. it is all black and white with some unworking links
is it supposed to be so.
see screenshot
now everything works fine without any errors.
i see the text changes every time. nifty.
but still all is black in white, but i now assume it is suppossed to be like tht.
Cheers!
Pollux V 01-18-02, 05:24 PM Well, Red Faction I must say is one crappy game. It's fun though.
Everything else really sux.
Ah, I see everything checks out now. I'll be screwing around with it later.
may I suggest you to try to make a shorter URL and smwhere else, not geocities. adress is too long.
how about
www.20m.com
there it is
http://your_name.20m.com
but with a crappy banner on top(6$ and no ads)
I had one at geocities and can' t complain about it much, yust sorta didn' t like it(but hey, it' s yust me).
.have fun with web design. and try flash5, it's outstanding.
Stryder 01-18-02, 05:39 PM Okay, I've been bored and I actually reloaded "The Sims"
and even got my expansion Livin it up (Living it Large) to work, Originally it would load, it was errored, I thought I had been palmed off with pirated software, in truth it was just down to my BAD RAM at the time, now it works :D
So the Sims isn't what you would expect a person to play, especially with all those major games out there, but I managed to get my sim killed the otherday trying to be macho and put a fire out on his own. I'm still waiting to see the Telescopes "Alien Abduction!", which I have only heard about while looking through the objects with "Blueprint" a program to clone objects and alter them a bit.
I hope MAXIS actually gets around to releasing EDITH there Sims programming tool, to make objects and how they react with the sims and the environment.
Other than that I've been messing around with C&C: Tiberian Sun once again but I'm not playing it online as everyone plays NOD and pretty much goes to FULL TECH LEVEL which is pretty pointless.
The Sims is very entertaining. I love those sort of quirky games that allow you build rooms and populate them. An older, yet extremely well done title of similar nature is Theme Hospital. I keep returning to that classic. More so than Theme Park, you feel connected to your workers.
Amongst the newer titles I have become infatuated with No One Lives Forever. The stealth aspect feels genuine in a comedic fashion. Hiding out of sight of cameras and luring Guards out with a coin is as fun as an FPS can get.
Pollux V 01-19-02, 10:21 AM NOLF is thee awsomest fps game out there. My comp's slightly outdated, though so the game freezes it up every 20 or thirty minutes.
The Sims is fun for about a week or two but then gets boring. I say go for NOLF, stryde!
I have a pirated copy of Red Faction right now. THe game sux but its fun.
Stryder 01-19-02, 11:19 AM Pollux V
When I played Red Faction I was getting pretty near the end, although I was using Easy because the PS2 wasn't mine and there was no memory Card.
In the later levels there are these bad guys that use Lazers to shoot at you, and they can even knock 70-80% of your health and Armour off in one shot, or just kill you stone dead.
I thought I would warn you if you haven't gotten to them yet (And the gun takes a while to recharge when you get it since it only has like 12 shots or something.)
I messed about with the Sniper rifle, As with most of the newer FPS's head shots take people down instantly. (If you get shot in the head with a lazer... then you better be prepared to reload the saved game)
In the later levels there are these bad guys that use Lazers to shoot at you, and they can even knock 70-80% of your health and Armour off in one shot, or just kill you stone dead.
Tell me about it. Those stupid Railguns are disgusting. The computer needs only get one shot off and then you die. I have been playing it on Normal and I have yet to beat it. It has been almost a year and still I am not far into it.
I have sort of given up. I've been playing Grand Theft Auto III lately. This must be the best game on the planet! (at least for another few months, until I tire of it and move onto Morrowind)
Stryder 01-19-02, 02:18 PM As I mentioned in a previous post on this thread:
If you make it to the docks on the first level and find a jump that goes over a bunch of lorry trailers, go steal a bus from the bus station and jump that for a UNUSUAL BONUS!) [/B]
Other points, if you car lands upside down, get out of it and run away from it, because it will explode (And if your standing too close like I was you get hit in the back with a door flying off.)
Cars don't always explode, I landed one on it's side (between two lorry trailers with the jump at the docks) and then found it a little difficult to get out.
There is a 4x4 on the beach near the docks, and that can do a really beastly flip if you try driving up the grass/cliff slope (Like 360deg front ender: MAJOR STUNT BONUS!)
Some stunt bonuses are Accumilative, but I'm sure your aware of that. Sometimes it's a good Idea to check out the autotraders garage, as there might be a car parked inside the building (requires you to RAM RAID) that might be worth saving back at your Garage.
If I ever get hold of a PS2... GTA3 is coming with me.
Pollux V 01-20-02, 10:08 AM Right now I've delivered Gryphon to the Red Faction guys and am in the OTHER undercover mission. On the first one, which was insanely hard I just shot all the guards I could see. It took awhile but eventually I pulled through.
Has anyone played Black and White? If you haven't I REALLY recommend it. The expansion doesn't look too awsome but let me tell you B&W is one fun game.
Avatar I'll check out those websites.
Stryde do you have Broodwar yet? In Diablo 2 I have seen the light of the paladin (pun INTENDED)! I thought the necro was the best but the paladin is just INCREDIBLE at fighting.
scifred 01-22-02, 10:13 AM nerdz
Stryder 01-22-02, 01:45 PM Scifred
What was the point in your post. If you don't like the subject, why bother posting something that doesn't state anything other than what you wish you were.
Gamerz aren't always nerds... Check it out...
Mind you your probably just a Slobby Couch potato.
Pollux V 01-23-02, 05:51 PM TWO NEW GAMES THAT I HAVE BOUGHT
Combat Flight Simulator: WW2 Europe Series
AWSOME AWSOME AWSOME. INCREDIBLY REALISTIC. FUN.
(graphics are outdated, though)
Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed
I have yet to decide whether or not this game is good, I'll get back to yas...
But I have also bought a Saitek Cyborg 3d Gold-ah, what a great joystick! At only $40 too! It's great, because now I can play flying games again since my other joystick had some sort of sticky liquid spilled onto it. I'm also about to get back into X-Wing Alliance, another one of the greats. Crimson Skies is awsome too, when the reviewers talk about bugs I have no idea what crawled up their asses and died...
It appears our ole buddy scifred is back.
That I have played so far is Deus Ex.

I have played it for 12.5 times.
Great game. It is THE GAME-THE LIFE!
Cannot wait for Deus-Ex_2!
Pollux V 01-24-02, 04:47 PM OH I WISH I WISH I WISH I COULD PLAY DEUS EX ON MY PC!!
Its so bad I can't even play it...I bought the game to test it out but had to run it in a window the size of a fist...maybe I'll try it again.
Time to get rid of that 486!
:) :)
Pollux V 01-25-02, 06:27 AM Maybe we should all post our DXDIAG's here.
This is how it works: Go to the start menu, run, and click on DXDIAG or just search for it with explorer. You should find a program that looks kind of like the imperial insignia from Star Wars and colored yellow and blue. Click it and you can see (assuming you have the pc-gaming essential directx) your pc's memory, RAM, processor speed.
I'll post mine later when I get home.

The person next to me is watching LOTR on his computer.
Imagine that.
HA! yourself. Atleast I can play Deus-Ex in great graphic and with no lags.

You are right about the RAM, I immediately noticed a great performance leap. STRONGLY suggest you either to get a new pc or at least 128Mb RAM.
Stryder 01-25-02, 02:01 PM Lets see, I should list my system (Or systems) the same way as you lot but some info is un-necessary or potential hacker fodder.

The networks been useful to move most of my hived info about the other machines, of course I'm not telling you which one the hive is :D But I do need to change my OS'S.
Extended pieces:
Psion 5
Compatible with the Ifra-red port on the Laptop
There are a few peripherals I've got kicking around, as well as a few parts for a Dechub 900 Server which I either need to find a use for or sell. (You know the usual routine, don't ask where they came from as I don't actually know truthfully.)
Anyway now you know whats in my toy-cupboard :p.
Pollux V 01-25-02, 03:59 PM stryde you seem to be a techie-sort-of-guy (i've checked out ur latest website), I have wanted to buy a good deal of RAM as a temporary solution to my burgeoning computer problem. You see, I can't play any of the latest games. My PC slipped under the minimum requirements a month and a half ago.
I heard that there are different types of RAM-specific types, I don't mean SD or RD. Is this true? My PC has SDRAM and if I wanted to upgrade it would I have to look for something more precise?
Stryder 01-25-02, 04:47 PM Pollux V
To work out your RAM what you need to know is the following:
The name/type of your motherboard
Possibly your BIOS/CMOS contains some info
Your processor (Which you know)
It is sometimes a good idea to get intimate with your computer (Yes, your going to have to look at it naked, stripped of it's chassis) if you do this make sure you haven't just turned everything off, but also removed the wires (As a wire can carry a charge even when removed from a wall socket)
If your not too sure about the insides, don't pull anything out.
In the most case scenario you can find manfacturer names, Product id numbers a few other bits and pieces to clue you up on what you have in your system. Sometimes it's a good idea to draw a diagram of your motherboard and write down exactly where you found the information. Then when you put it back together and use it later, you can search "Google" for that part number.
From a guess I would say that a Celeron Pentuim II MMX system would require PC100 DRAM 168pin the tricky bit is working out wether you would need ECC/non-ECC(Error-Correcting Code) or Parity/non-Parity.
information on the different types of RAM is located at:
http://www.pcguide.com/ref/ram/err.htm
Although it seems ECC and Parity is made to try and limit problems, as I mentioned about my own system I was using ECC/Parity PC100 previously on my PIII 500 and it became very ill (Lots of memory errors) I've now filled it with Non-ECC/Non-Parity RAM (PC133) and although it doesn't have all the thrills and spills of Error correction, I haven't seen any errors that needed correcting.
If you can't find out any information to point to the type of RAM you need, take one of your RAM chunks with you to a computer retailer and ask them.
[I advise that when replacing RAM, you replace "ALL" of the RAM you previously used too, this is so errors from your old RAM don't make you freak about your new RAM and because if you've got new RAM made at the same location in the world it should have the same Carbon-polarisation and will be less likely to suffer integratey errors.]
Pollux V 01-25-02, 04:56 PM thanks a lot stryde, I think I'll just take a chunk of RAM out. SDRAM is really cheap now, anyway.
Now to just find a retailer in Maine...

Pollux V 02-05-02, 08:57 AM The best pc-game in general site I've found on the net is gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com) . I really recommend anyone here check it out.
What is the best strategy game anyone here has ever played? With the best graphics and the most engaging gameplay? So far I've found Broodwar and Imperium Galactica 2 to last months until I sold IG2 and because of conflicting personal problems can't play broodwar. Does anyone else have any?
Outpost 2, all the way. The only rts so far that I've seen where you actually have to 1) Manage your colonies morale 2) build tubes to your buildings and 3) actually research your technologies in real time. There's like 100 different research topics, and you have to figure out how to research what in what order to get weapons the fastest. That game is all about speed, if you're not fast in the first 5 minutes of the game you've lost. Unlike C&C where you just need to build a war fact. and bingo you can build a horde of tanks right away.
Graphics are outdated by now, but it's still the best in gameplay.
Pollux V 02-06-02, 09:44 AM That's a lot like IG2, however despite the fact that you can design dozens (maybe) of different classes of ships it's obvious that the most powerful technology and the biggest ship is going to win, as well as the largest fleet. There aren't any cloaking devices or counter cloaking devices or wormhole generators or anything like that.
We must now discuss the DREAM STRATEGY GAME:
-For me, a Massively Multiplayer game that takes place over the whole of the milky way with 100, 000 stars with at least two planets to colonize, build factories on, and trade with would be great.
-The ability to create user-run factions that could possibly dominate the galaxy eventually. If an empire does this then their original members don't have to pay the MM fee.
-A wide variety of design-able craft with weapons that not only destroy but erase offensive capabilites, defensive capabilites, 'parasite' the craft, etc. I'll add more later I gtg.
Star Craft was good, but it lacked depth. I have Oupost 2, but the objectives were vague. Save your colony from the eruption. I don't think I really gave it a chance.
My current tastes lead me to Age of Empires2 and Empire Earth. I wanted to like civilization 2, but found that too frequently I would just be hitting the the enter key to go the next turn. Alpha Centauri improved this concept a bit. Master of Orion 2 was a good example of how a turnbased strategy game should work.
-For me, a Massively Multiplayer game that takes place over the whole of the milky way with 100, 000 stars with at least two planets to colonize, build factories on, and trade with would be great.

That sounds like Master of Orion 2. Making it multiplayer will add a little depth, but maybe MOO3 will have some of those aspects. I love the games that are open- ended. That would work for a perhaps a diplomatic aspect to the game. Imagine walking in 3d around the capitol of other worlds and negotiating with other planetary overlords. Also consider a fixed set of worlds, that have a hierarchy. President, admiral, captain, and grunt. That would give a feeling of true immersion.
Yeah, I agree Teg, the single player missions on OP2 were laughable at best. For 85% of the missions you had to build up some stuff, then evacuate before the volcano erupted. Multiplayer is the only reason I kept that game.
What I'd like to see in an RTS is to be able to customize your units. For example, take a basic chassis and be able to pick what type of weapons to put on, type of engine, sheilds etc. This would add a level of unpredictability to the game. Also, the ability to research new technologies in real time, and as you research you get more components available to build your units.
The research would have different branches, such as defensive components, engine components etc. The new technologies could then also be applied to buildings if possible, for example sheilds. All this would take place on a single planet with, say, 8 people max for multiplayer. You would then have to compete for the resources of the planet while at the same time try to destroy the other players (or something else, depending on the game style).
This combined with being able to salvage components from a battlefield (sort of like Total Annihalation, except instead of recycling the metal be able to salvage weapons, engine units etc) would make for my dream RTS game.
Pollux V 02-08-02, 08:12 AM So far I haven't gotten a turn based strategy game and my pc can't handle Empire Earth (8 mb video card). I'd push for a non-turn based strategy game for Massively Multiplayer games, it would just be way too complicated and huge to have to have the entire galaxy taking turns.
That would be very unenjoyable to have that many people taking turns.
My GeForce2 is x8 the requirement and I still have slowdown issues with Empire Earth, go figure. I think that I fixed the problem finally by shutting down all those pesky background programs. But still, on an AMD 1.4 you would think that slowdown would only occur in the highest resolutions, i.e. 1280x1024. Alas it works, and that is the important thing.
Pollux V 02-09-02, 01:36 PM After watching my dad make a lengthy phone call to gateway I suddenly thought of the scene in "Spaceballs" when Lonestar and Puke realize that they can get a million spacebucks. Lonestar shouts: "Gimme paw!!" And they both do this little secret handshake thing while howling at the top of their lungs.
I felt that way because (dundundudnah!) I ordered 256 mb of RAM and a 32mb video card! YES!!!!! It'll be here by next saturday, just in time for vacation. I can finally get back into the loop, finally play deus ex, maybe even tribes 2...
Quite enjoyable. For some reason I prefer the Sniper route. I love creeping up on unsuspecting guards and whacking them with the hand weapon. Dang if that game isn't hard, though. Also watch out for those access codes.
No One Lives Forever should also be on your play list if you like Deus Ex. That game is criminally fun.
It's too bad that Grand Theft Auto 3 has yet to be translated to PC. It is the best game yet made. That may sound like an infatuation, but no matter how much I delve into I always come back within a days time. That's after 3 months of play. That reminds me...I have to get back to my war against the Columbian Cartel. Immersive worlds have never been so evil.
Pollux V 02-10-02, 08:45 AM Yes, Teg, NOLF is a great game and I've played it three times now, I install it every couple of months but my system isn't quite powerful enough to handle it so every twenty or thirty minutes it freezes and I have to control+alt+delete it.
Does anyone have tribes 2? Can they tell my how it runs with their hardware? I read an old review with pcgamer and they said a 32mb card was recommended.
Pollux V, if you thought NOLF was great before, wait for the graphical boost. The game is beatiful and best yet, it doesn't choke...at all! I think I am currently well above the 60f/s standard. Deus Ex is another story. No matter which utility I run it under it always looks ugly and runs poorly. Does anyone have a reccomendation? I've tried everything and one would think that a GeForce 2 would be able to handle Deus Ex. The official site told me to get new drivers for my GPU. When I got the latest Nvidia drivers, my card started acting improperly. That teaches a good lesson: drivers are not the be-all end-all solution that magazine editors and game manufacturers make them out to be.
I have 3Dfx voodoo 3 2000 16Mb and Deus-Ex runs beautifully!
I really think tht you have a driver problem.
Pollux V 02-10-02, 07:17 PM I for one can't wait for jedi knight 2, now that I'll be able to enjoy it the game looks like it will be exceptionally fun, and raven has an unbeatable track record with all of its games.
I have 3Dfx voodoo 3 2000 16Mb and Deus-Ex runs beautifully!

I think it is a problem with the game. All of my other games run perfectly in OpenGl, Direct3D, and any other standard. This one has graphical artifacts in OpenGl and runs really bad under Direct3D. It has this weird haze effect also. This is slowdown in 640x480 @32bit-color. Yeah something is amiss. I tried to download a patch for the game, but the site won't let me. I guess I'll try Fileplanet.
Hey, I know tht voodoo sux, which is the point I duno why you have bad graphic.
Pollux V 02-11-02, 03:23 PM Isn't voodoo sort-of an outside graphics card that doesn't really run well with some games because the people creating the games don't take voodoo cards into account and focus more on nvidia and ATI?
There are a lot of 3rd party drivers. in fact you can find all kinds of drivers and utilities @ www.voodoofiles.com
a great place, might want to check it out
Pollux V 02-12-02, 06:45 PM looking at it right now....avatar ur right this place is pretty awsome! I'm dl the star wars screensaver:)
Pollux V 02-24-02, 07:22 PM We need to get this thread going again, my international friends! Some news:
I estimate that I'll be able to legally play on my updated PC in under three days and am itching with excitement because today I got an hour-and-a-half oppurtunity to try out Tribes 2, Deus Ex, and Red Faction (with a much higher resolution). I love them all! I was skeptical with Deus the first time I played it because in the beginning I couldn't find the crowbar and open anything up, leaving me with only several rounds of ammunition. But let me tell you Tribes 2 is something else, my god it is fun, piloting fighters and speeders around in such a complex world, arrr its just STUPENDOUS! I haven't played it online yet...I had to patch it but for some reason I dl a bad copy of the patch so I wound up having to get another and that's when my window *closed.*
Has anyone else bought anything new? Any online battle stories...which reminds me of a broodwar one that maybe I'll talk about later that was very, very engaging and...dramatic. I recorded it, so maybe if anyone else had the game they could watch it...anyway, see all of youse later!
Stryder 02-24-02, 07:33 PM I've recently Purchased :
Final Fantasy 9 for the Station of Play! (Playstation ;)
Okay so it's to some daunting because no matter how many markups they do on these type of games they never put a SKIP SCENE button up during those long played out animations.
Okay the first time you see it, force the player at Light-gun point to watch it, but for fudge sake let us skip the poxy scene after the ..nth time or something... lol
As for the game contents... okay it's still cool, again merging difference from the others but with the common similarities. (Like the games within game)
I still wish they concentrate on something similar to FF7's gold saucer, perhaps having not just a package with loads of small arcade games, but an actual game of being stuck in an arcade with a (quarter/ Twenty pence) lol.
Pollux V 02-24-02, 09:05 PM I never played the games as I lack a ps2 or ps1, but I did see the movie.:)
And right now I have that horrible deus ex intro theme song in my head...arrr it's so BAD.
The world has left them long ago
We are the future
Aquinas knew when he was talking about the mystical city on the hill.
Soon it will be a new a world
And we will be its crowned kings
Or better than kings.......GODS
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
You speaking about tht movie Pollux?
Well I liked the text, but the graphics were awful
Worse thn actually they are in the game.
But Deus Ex is game No1 for me
FF7 is 2nd
FF8 is 3rd'
I have bought a new game. It's called STRONGHOLD.
there you have to defend yor medieval castle from attacks.
the graphics are beautiful-> management is logical and interesting also. to get bread for instance . you have to grow wheat, mill it and then bake it to get bread.
I really like the game, but smtimes selecting your units may give a headache, especially in an intense battle.
I'll tell more when get back from school, runnin'now, Bye!
