View Full Version : Funerals for US soldiers
EI_Sparks 11-01-03, 07:51 AM As noted on alternet (http://www.alternet.org/story.html?StoryID=17079),
Bush has not yet attended even one funeral of any US GI killed in Iraq.
Now granted, the President's a busy man, and granted, there are so many being killed every day in Iraq that attending all the funerals might comprimise his ability to do the job (*smothered guffaw*), but there have been 360 US GIs killed in Iraq since this debacle started, and 155 since he gave the "bring 'em on" speech - and he's not attended even one funeral?
Hmmm.
So do any of the pro-war posters want to explain why?
justiceusa 11-01-03, 11:33 AM In addition to Bush's apparent lack of respect, the Department of Defence is not allowing any pictures to be taken at Dover AFB Maryland where the coffins are arriving daily.
The reasons IMO are that a public display would be bad PR for Bush.
The only casuality info that is released by the DOD is at:

It's disgusting. This sort of thing will surface in the mainstream come campaign time later this year.
Also, nice picture, Repo Man. Although just for kicks I'm going to posit that Clinton's presence was as politically motivated as Bush's absence. Such is politics, heh.

hypewaders 11-02-03, 06:40 PM Here is the neocon vision: Arab and muslim worlds, impressed and compelled by a belligerent US, reshuffle the deck of power: US gets several "democratic" client states that protect from a possible collapse of the US economy after nearly simultaneous fundamentalist revolutions as seen in Iran, occuring in Saudi Arabia and one or two Emirates. The neocons are making a desperate grab for a new strategic base in the mideast, because they fear both being outed by new Arab states, and also by a new but rival world currency (the Euro, or whatever it becomes, neocons loathe it).
Unfortunately, when formulating this bold new strategy, they left out serious consideration of both US and Iraqi public opinion. In the present unscripted phase, they are trying to suppress and confuse both.
Neocons started out with a burst of hubris, but now they are just very afraid. I am too.
goofyfish 11-03-03, 07:41 AM During Vietnam, the press and other media honored their obligation to keep us informed. The endless flag-draped coffins of our American dead were shown in all their hideous truth; dead, wounded, MIA tolls were reported. The media, among others, were blamed for “losing” Vietnam because they refused to disguise meat grinder-style policy with happy-faced PR. The numbers are the bottom line, the result of the policy. They dead deserve to be counted.
Bush didn't attend a single one of the Columbia astronauts' funerals. Then the Iraq funerals began and he still didn't show. Never has, never will. He is the single most self-centered, disconnected, flinty-hearted bastard who has ever shit in a White House toilet. Give your full attention to what Team Bush does, not what they say; their words and actions are worlds apart. They have fouled every bit of truth with political ambition, and the media reports it for them.
Don’t turn away. Look and see what they have done. The reality is dead American kids coming home in coffins, and they’ll keep coming whether you want to see them or not.
:m: Peace.
The very least a president can do is show respect for his countrys dead, it does(and imo should not) not need to be big show or anything just show that he cares.
Its beond me why you still support a president that treats you like drones, but then again perhaps thats how americans like it.
